NEWS & REMINDERS

Please be sure to take your child’s nap
items home on the last day of his/her
school week so that we can begin each
week with new linens. We ask you to do so
even if your child only comes once or twice a week. It is also helpful if his or her name is on these items so that nothing gets lost amongst others.

Our school will be closed on Monday, September 5 in recognition of Labor Day.

Shoes are very important for your little ones! Please make sure your child wears shoes that are secure to his/her feet—no Crocs or flip-flops!
•
From Monday through Thursday, please do not to bring any small items or toys to school—save all the goodies for Friday Share Day! Of course,
books are always welcome any day of the week!
CLASSROOM NEWS
Twos – Goodbye, summer—and, hello, fall! During the first week of September, we will create art projects to demonstrate school fun and
what we’ve learned about our new friends! We’ll read “Froggy Goes to School,” “Llama, Llama Misses Mama,” and “Five Sweet
Strawberries.” We love story time with flannel boards! We will also sing songs such as “I Like to Eat Apples and Bananas,” “The Good
Morning Song,” and “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes.” We will continue to work on our potty-training skills and reiterate the
importance of manners such as using “please” and “thank you.”
Threes – Fall brings a lot of exciting new topics and themes! We will welcome new faces and the opportunity to learn about everyone’s
families. Name recognition will be an exciting activity this month, as we not only practice our full names, but the names of our fellow
classmates and friends! We will also introduce the alphabet and single-digit numbers. We’ll celebrate the new school year with apple tasting
and apple stamping, too! During circle time each morning and afternoon, we will explore “The Kidding Hand,” “Clifford’s First Day of
School,” “Caps for Sale,” and “Guess How Much I Love You.” We love when our teachers read to us, and ask us to help along with the
stories and pictures!
Pre-K – Welcome back! We hope you had a fabulous summer. We look forward to a year of fun, adventure, and learning! This month, we’ll
become familiar with our new classrooms, classmates, teachers, and some of the rules that help us get along. We’ll read stories such as
“The Kissing Hand” and “If You Take A Mouse to School.” Expect some homework in Week 2—perhaps to bring in some pictures and to
complete a questionnaire regarding your child’s favorite things! That week, we’ll read “I Like Me” and create self-portraits. As autumn
blows in, we will talk about the changing seasons, make art with leaves, and read “Autumn is for Apples.” We will explore our senses during
the last week of the month with a nature walk, smell lab, taste test, and color mixing!

Seasons & Weather
Jr. Kindergarten News – September in Jr. K is all about welcoming new students, teachers, classrooms, and concepts! Along with
“new” comes “fun,” and that’s what we strive for in Jr. K! This month, we will get to know each other more by talking and doing projcts
that relate to school, ourselves, family, and friends. Our goals for September include working on numbers 0-25, expanding our alphabet
knowledge of letters A-E, learning the phonics and words that begin with these letters, and recognizing basic patterns of letters (such as
AB & ABB). Through songs, games, artwork, and stories, we will work on skills to motivate and inspire the children. Mr. Mario, our Music
instructor, will be with us once a week to teach us how to sing and to educate us on the basics of reading and understanding music.
September will be a great month! Please remember to pack extra clothing and underwear for your new Jr. Kindergartener!

Autumn
Kindergarten– We are so excited to start the new school year! The amazing Kindergarten reading program called “Superkids” is off and
running. We’ll currently reading about Cass! All of our classmates just love her and her adventures. Throughout the month of September,
th
th
we have special activities on certain days. We’ll have a Fun Friday on the 9 about cartoon characters. On the 16 , we’ll enjoy a cooking
th
project as we make monkey bread. We’ll also have a special snack on the 26 for Johnny Appleseed. Welcome to Room 12, new friends!
Rooms 6 & 12 – Welcome back to Allen After School Care! We are excited to welcome our friends back and to meet some new friends
who will be joining us. We have many fun activities planned for our afternoons including playing Twister charades and board games. There
will be a homework clinic that will run Monday-Thursday from 3:15-4:00pm. Parents, please make sure your child’s teacher is aware of
your wishes and requests for your child during the homework clinic, should you decide to take part in it. It will be a great time for your child
th
to receive teacher assistance while completing their homework. On the 20 , we will make grilled cheese sandwiches, a fun and tasty
cooking project. For our autumn-themed week, we will create a classroom tree and make leaf creations. We will watch a movie on the
rd
23 : “The Tortoise versus the Hare.” We will continue to read new and fun books, play and engage in double-dutch jump roping, and
enjoy banana splits during monkey week! Parents, please inform the office of any changes you may have in your child’s schedule—
whether it be daily, weekly, or monthly. Thank you!
