Housekeeping
Some resources monies are still outstanding for this year despite 7 of the 10 school months
having passed. Please make contact with the office in order to pay.
Parking in the car park is a constant worry. Please remember there are always children
present and they might not be as careful as we would like them to be. Please always watch
carefully and expect the unexpected! Also, it is never okay to park in the spaces reserved for
Disabled Persons, not even for a moment!
Furthermore, please do not park on the path opposite the school. It blocks pedestrians and
is illegal.
Timekeeping: Up to 70 children are arriving after 9am daily. We cannot stress enough the
importance of timekeeping and starting the day positively without children having to worry
about being late.
If your child is not well
enough to last the day in
school you should consider
not sending them to school.
Sick children should be
kept at home.
Senior Infants Assembly
Yvonne and Aoife’s class
had their assembly on
Friday. Our assembly was
all about International
Women’s Day. We learned
that things are not always
equal and fair in our world, especially for girls and women. Being unequal means things are
unfair for boys sometimes too and equality can help everyone. Making our world fair and
equal is good for everybody – boys and girls, men and women.
We sang “I am a Girl” and we also said a poem about International Women’s day. We
showed some interesting examples of when things are not fair for girls and boys and we all
wrote acrostic poems about the Wow Women in our lives. These amazing poems are on
display outside the hall. Women have worked hard throughout history to be equal and to
achieve their
dreams. We
spoke about
four women
who have
done some
pretty
remarkable
things (Rosa
Parks, Katie
Taylor, Serena
Williams and
Elizabeth
Garrett
Anderson).
Our message
for everyone was that you can do whatever you want to do with your life once you work hard
at it.
It has been a great week preparing for our assembly. The children were absolutely fantastic
and we had two wonderful assemblies. We are extremely proud of all the children in senior
infants. Well done!

Green Team Day of Action for our 7th Green Flag for Global Citizenship and Energy.
Last
Wednesday,
C.E.TN.S.
celebrated
their Green
Team Day of
Action for our
7th Green Flag
for Global
Citizenship
and Energy.
We started the
day with
everyone
wearing green and with a COWOW Day-where as many people were asked to cycle or walk
on Wednesday. However the rain prevented a lot of us doing this, so we will hold another
COWOW day in May.
The Green Team presented a fabulous assembly on what they have been busy doing,
preparing for the 7th flag, which we will actually get in June.
Alexia and Saraska introduced the assembly, talking about their gardening club and all the
very eager volunteers who have been very busy weeding, preparing the beds for planting.
They also talked about all the great areas of our school that show how unique our school is
such as the chicken coop, compost bins, water butts, ponds, sensory garden, outdoor
classroom, logs and tyres in the playground, our new frog spawn in the pond, our polytunnel
and they were especially delighted to hear the Board of Management have granted the funds
for a new cover for the polytunnel.
Thanks to the Board of
Management, that made our day!
Finn, James, Dominick,
Christopher, Anthony and Ciara
quizzed us all, by asking us all
questions on how we can save
energy in our C.E.T.N.S. global
citizenship quiz.
Cosi and Jakub did a very cool and
entertaining rap of our Green Code.
Rosie then talked about how many
of the team made fashion items
and artwork from rubbish such as
Sadhbh’s rubbish bag dress and
hairpiece, Sara’s bow headpiece,
Mysha’s hair bow clip, Roger and
James’s school polytunnel (and
their red tulip blossomed during the
assembly!) Finn’s sweet wrapper
hat and some of the 5th class
students showed us some of their fashion pieces made from rubbish.
Roger, Sadhbh, Jake, Sophie all presented their powerpoint on our Carbon Footprint and
Global Warming and how we can reduce our carbon footprint.
Alicia thanked Mary for all her hard work, dedication and passion over the past 2 years with
the Green Team and wished her well, going on maternity leave. She also thanked Andreas
for the huge part he plays in making our school so green.
I would like to say a special thanks to our exceptionally dedicated green team, who work so
hard, especially Roger, Laurence and Ciara who work so hard co-ordinating the gardening
club for the senior yard and Sara and Clíona who head the gardening club for the junior
yard, thanks also to Ciara and James who take the daily ESB meter readings, Sadhbh who
made our posters to keep our yard wrapper-free, Sophie and Jakub who collect the chicken
bins every few days and feed the chickens, Glenn and Alicia who collect the recycleable
rubbish everyday. Your hard work is much appreciated.
Finally, we would love if someone could help run our gardening club with the children at
lunchtime, even if it was only 2 or 3 lunch times a week. So if you know anyone out there
who has green fingers and would lend a helping hand in the polytunnel or planting
vegetable/flower beds, please let Elaine know at [email protected]
Sport
Great game played by the senior girls soccer team against St Annes Fettercairn. We had an
away game playing in Kilinarden Football club. The final result was 3-1 to St Annes, as
always the girls put their best foot forward and played some great defence. In the second
half after much persistence, Isabell Flemming (woman of the match) scored a cracking goal.
Well done girls better luck next time!! Thank you to the parents for lifts and supporting the
girls on the sideline!
Morning Athletics will not be on next week, from 3rd to 7th April because the hall will be in
use for our art exhibition.
Parents of 1st and 2nd class have been brilliant in the mornings before school looking after
athletics every day. Thank you.
Santry Cross Country (Tuesday 4th Apri)l
Parents need to provide transport. Children who do not have a lift cannot go. Take 2 euro for
registration, runners and water. Registrations start at 10:30am, so we’ll leave the school at
10am. Children will be back at school by big yard time. Fingal Co. Co. will have fun activities
in the field too.
Athletics Ireland have a coaching course which would be perfect for parents who are, or who
would like to become involved in school athletics. The course would be worthwhile even for
those not available to assist in the mornings. The next Athletics Leader Course in the Dublin
area takes place over two evenings, May 5th and May 12th in Tallaght AC. Email Aidan,
[email protected], if interested in registering.
C.E.T.N.S. Fairtrade Week
Thanks to everyone who participated in our Fairtrade Week, especially all those who bought
Fairtrade, we got a lot of Fairtrade packaging
and wrappers for our display table in the
foyer. Classes were busy making fantastic
posters for our Fairtrade art competition,
filling their bananas with the Fairtrade
stickers, many classes made their own
Fairtrade displays,The Student Council sent
letters to local supermarkets, asking them to
stock more Fairtrade products, Cathal from
Karen's 2nd class made a Fairtrade banner
for his classroom. Well done to the winners
of the art competition and remember to buy
Fairtrade in your weekly shop, it makes such
a difference to the farmers.
Art exhibition
It's that time of year again! CETNS is bursting at the seams with the most amazing artists
and we want to show all of our wonderful art to you. Our annual Art Exhibition takes place
this week from Tuesday to Thursday and we would love as many visitors as possible to
come to our gallery! The gallery is open from 10am to 2pm on Thursday to facilitate visitors.
Please bring as many people as you can along to see it! You will see lots of exciting pieces
of art from all strands of the Visual Arts Curriculum. Please write something about our
exhibition in the comments book too. We look forward to seeing you there!
Day of Celebration
Day of Celebration for 2nd classes is June 8th. Traditionally parents from 1st class help with
food and drinks on the night so 2nd class parents can enjoy the evening with their children.
Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] if you are able to
help.
