San Francisco Javier, S/N Sevilla – 41005 Universidad de Sevilla The University originated in late 15th century as the School of Blessed Mary of Jesus (Colegio de Santa María de Jesús), founded by Archdeacon Maese 1 Rodrigo Fernández de Santaella. In 1505 a papal bull of Pope Julius II allowed it to teach degrees in Theology, Philosophy, Law, Medicine and Arts. In 1551 the city council granted a General Study Centre (Estudio General) which enabled the School to become officially a university. There are now over 70,000 students over a number of campuses. The Escuela Universitaria de Estudios Empresariales is located in the centre of Seville. It provides Diplomas in Business and in Tourism. In 2003/2004 a Business Diploma in English was introduced. A number of modules are therefore taught in English. What it is like to study at Universidad de Sevilla Check out these videos Video 1 Video 2 Location Seville is the artistic, cultural, and financial capital of southern Spain, irrigated by the river Guadalquivir. It is the capital of Andalusia and of the province of Sevilla and ranks as the fourth-largest metropolitan area of Spain. The city sits well inland, but a mere 6 meters above sea level. Andalucia was occupied by Moors for about 800 years but Seville was a cultural centre long before. The fertility of the land and its climate with mild winters and about 3000 hours of sun per year (in August temperatures can reach 47°C) made Phoenicians and Carthaginians settle here. Later came the Romans, and two of its emperors, Trajan and Hadrian, in fact were born here. Seville was long an important sea port, prior to the silting up of the Guadalquivir. Today the city is an important conference and business centre for southern Spain.
