FUNDRAISING GUIDE 2016 Thank you for choosing the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation as your charity of choice! FUNDRAISING TIPS HOW TO FUNDRAISE ON SOCIAL MEDIA FROM YOUR HQ: 1. Log into your HQ at http://ottawacancer.kintera.org/ottawaraceweekend 2. Under the "My HQ" tab, scroll to the bottom of the page. 3. On the right hand side, click on the “Facebook” or “Twitter” link. 4. You’ll be asked for permission to connect with Facebook and Twitter. Your information will not be shared. 5. Add a personal message for your friends and followers. TIP: Just like with email. Include a specific donation request and your fundraising goal in your message. “Will you donate $20 to help me reach my fundraising goal?” HOW TO RAISE $500 IN ONE WEEK: Sponsor yourself $50 Ask four relatives to give $25 $100 Ask six friends to give $25 $150 Ask five co-workers to give $20 $100 Ask five neighbours to give $10 $50 Ask your spouse or partner to give $50 Celebrate your successes $500 15 WORK FRIENDLY FUNDRAISER IDEAS Bake Sales: Hold a Friday bake sale so employees have treats to bring home for the weekend. An alternative to this is to take orders for baked goods. Provide the order form- this ensures that people are getting what they want! Bingo: Have a Bingo event either at work, or with your friends and family! Charge an entry fee ($10-$25), and then split the money you raise in half, one half to the Bingo winner, and the other half can go towards your own fundraising. Casual days: For $2 - $5 each, sell “casual day” stickers that allow employees to dress casually on certain days. Ice cream sales: buy individual ice creams treats in bulk and keep them in the freezer at work. Employees can purchase at any time for $3.00. Cookbook: Ask your coworkers to bring in their favorite recipe and compile them into a Company Cookbook. Sell them for $10 $15 with proceeds going towards the Cancer Foundation. Pancake Breakfast: Have a traditional pancake breakfast at work and either set a price for co-workers to take part or ask for donations. Pot Luck lunches: Name every Wednesday “Pot Luck Day.” Team members take turns preparing foods, salads, desserts, etc. and offer them to employees at the workplace for a set price or donation. Best/Worst Tie: Charge your colleagues a fee to enter a best or worst tie completion. Offer a prize and have the entire office vote at lunchtime. Book Sale: Ask employees to donate used books to sell from $1 to $5, depending on the title and condition. Coffee runs: Get coffee or tea for your co-workers for one week. Charge a fee for the week, agree to delivery times and put the funds you raise toward your goal. Silent auction: Have staff bid on items such as extra vacation days, longer lunch hours, VIP parking spots, dinner passes, casual days, etc. Money raised goes to fundraising efforts. Cake Auction: Organize a cake auction and get employees to bake an extravagant cake. Each department brings in money for a week – the department with the most money at the end of the week gets first pick at the cakes. Enjoy the cake as a team! Wine Down Wednesdays: employees pay $5 and enjoy a glass of wine at work. Jersey or Pajama Day: Pay $5 to wear your favourite team jersey or jammies to work. EMPLOYEE GIFT MATCHING • • See if your place of employment will match donations made by others. Many companies do this a part of their philanthropic pursuits. Also check to see if your employment gives to the United Way Campaign! They can change their designation to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation and we can direct your United Way funds to your Ottawa Race Weekend page at the end of the year. We just need to know your monthly contribution. FUNDRAISER IDEAS: EFFORTLESS TO EXTRAVAGANT • • • • • • • • • • • Ask your friends and family: it’s the easiest way! You can also ask them to donate to you based on how many KM you run while training or to make a donation in lieu of special occasion gifts. Exercise Class: If you attend a weekly fitness class, work with the facility to see if fees (or a portion) of the fees from a particular class could be directed to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation in support of your Ottawa Race Weekend team. Shopping night: Work with a local retailer to host a shopping night where % sales goes to your team. Laugh it out: Call your local comedy club and ask them to partner with you in hosting a charity comedy night where proceeds from the night can go towards your fundraising. Car Wash: Check the weather and plan for a one-day or weekend car wash fundraiser on sunny day! They are a fast and cost effective fundraiser you just need to make sure there’s plenty of supplies. Charge $5 per car! Bottle Drive: If you can return empty bottles and collect their deposits in your city it can make for another good fundraising idea. Ask all your neighbours to hand over whatever empty beer and liquor bottles they might have lying around. You need to collect a lot of them to make it worthwhile, so you'll need a car to transport them all. Dinner theme - Have the team host a theme dinner. Host at someone’s house – each team member makes a food items. Charge people $15 minimum to attend. Garage Sale: Looking to do some spring or summer cleaning? Collect items from from friends, family, neighbor, colleagues and host a garage sale with proceeds going to your fundraising. And bond with your team! Raffle: Ask companies to donate sporting tickets, baskets, etc. and raffle them off to family, friends, neighbours, and co-workers. “Thon” Event: Find an activity that can be done for a long period of time – hoola hoop, bowling, dancing, watching movies, gaming night, etc! Ask participants to pay a fee and solicit pledges from family and friends. Music or Art Show: Hold a private or public exhibit of artwork or music featuring one or more artists! You’ll need a venue, artists, musicians, tickets, and volunteers! Sell tickets and these proceeds can benefit the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. We support cancer care and research to prevent, detect, diagnose and cure cancer.
