CAREER CHOICES Performance Standard 30B.B Depict jobs in the target language accordingly: • Knowledge: Know correct terminology for occupations in the target languages. • Comprehension: Understand written cues. • Communication: Prepare a scrapbook of ten different jobs, labeling and describing them in the target language. Convey appropriate language skills correctly. Procedures 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. In order to use the target language to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a variety of career options (30B), students should experience sufficient learning opportunities to develop the following: • Name some common professions and occupations in the community. Provide each student with a copy of the task sheet. Have students review and discuss the assessment task and how the rubric will be used to evaluate their work. Instruct students to create scrapbooks which depict ten different jobs. Students must: • create pictures of the 10 occupations • label the occupations in the target language • write a brief (1-2 sentence) description of each occupation under each picture Careers selected may be common to the community, possible occupations after graduation/college, or student’s “dream” careers. Evaluate each student’s project using the Foreign Language Rubric and add the scores to determine the performance level: • Knowledge: Used appropriate sentence structures and vocabulary. • Comprehension: Understood basic terminology for selected careers. • Communication: Effectively communicated various careers in the target language.
