Motivation is what it should be about! plus seeing what other Lions are doing in our district. Always enjoy the guest speakers, this year Eye Health, Prostate cancer, Spinal Cord & our Lions working in PNG just to name a few. Our club has taken this information on board and will be working to run with some new projects through out the coming year. Dressed as Pirates went down a treat at the banquet and our little group had some fun. Lion Michelle’s outfit stole the show for our club. Presented by PDG Gordon Bailey to the Whitsunday Lions Club at the Cairns Convention on the Sunday. Lions International Clubs Award for 2014/15. THE LIONS ROAR PAGE 2 D.G.’s Visit / Lions News D.G. Kath Scullys, visit to the Whitsunday Lions Club took place on Tuesday 6th October, at a special dinner meeting held for her visit. We had a great roll up from club members, partners, and even some visitors which included two from the U.S.A. D.G. Kath talk gave us an informative overview of her role as District Governor & an insight into some of our Lions projects, she finished by encouraging us to come to the Cairns Convention (5 of us did). Pictured D.G. Kath Scully & Whitsunday Clubs President Betty Wilson exchanging banners. Lion Fred Collings A sad moment for members present from our club at the Lions Memorial on the Sunday at the Lions Convention, with the presentation of a remembrance candle in honour of our past Lion Fred. Lion Betty will pass the candle on to Joan & her family on her return home from Melbourne. On our way to Convention we stopped off in Townsville to say Hello! to Our Young Harry & the lovely Faye. Harry has just completed his radiation treatment. Poor fellow was completely hen pecked! Photo above of us all wishing him a speedy recovery in the coming weeks. We all look forward to seeing them both at our Christmas Party in December. THE LIONS ROAR PAGE 3 President Report To my fellow Lions, I know we all say it all the time, but where has this year gone, it is less than 2 months to Christmas, end of October already!!!!! Anyway, we have had a busy month since the last report/newsletter, Convention in Cairns, 5 of us attended. I really do wish that more members would attend District Conventions, they really stir up the ‘juices’ and gets the enthusiasm going, and let’s be honest , we all need that little boost every now and then to remind us of the fantastic job we all do in our Community. So perhaps a few more members could give serious consideration to coming with us next year to Ingham, and believe me, Ingham always puts on a great convention, so do think about it, please. Now to the convention held at the Colonial Club Resort of Cairns, set in beautiful rainforest gardens, 16 acres I believe. It was such a pleasure to walk to the main venue, and back to our rooms. Except for Sunday lunch (another story) the food was good, Saturday night Governors dinner was lots of fun, with most people in pirates costume. Keynote Speakers again of top quality, with very interesting topics. But what about Whitsunday Lions Club, winning all those awards, WOW. Top Club, Hardest Working Club, first time our club has won both these awards together. And of course ,congratulations to our wonderful hardworking Secretary Helen, receiving Top Secretary Award, and so well deserved. `We were also presented with the Top 5 Clubs Award, in our Constitutional Area 7, a copy was printed off, and presented to us, at Convention, we were not supposed to have been given it a few weeks ago. Enough said. A lovely Remembrance Service was held, albeit very sad, always is, we lost 27 Lions and Lionesses and partners this year, the most in the past 12 years that I have been going to convention. I have a lovely scented candle to give to Joan, our old mate Fred was remembered. Our markets still bouncing along, despite some horrific weather, the wind has not been kind this year, but those amazing stall holders still come every Saturday and Cruise Ship Market days, they are troupers. We have the Airlie Beach Music Festival coming up next week, and I will be in touch with members who have put up their hands to work , with roster hours, and times needed. Thank you each and everyone of you for being a member of our wonderful Whitsunday Lions Club. Yours in Lionism, Lion Betty PAGE 4 THE LIONS ROAR Cairns Convention Photo’s 2015 THE LIONS ROAR PAGE 5 Lions News / Peace Poster Share Peace 2015 Lions Peace Poster Prizes were awarded to students from the Whitsunday Christian College on the 12 October, 36 students entered the Whitsunday Lions Club local judging of this special Lions International Event. Looking forward to the visit from the Browning's next week! they are bringing their Lions shirts so look out. Lions Peace Poster over for an other year, with a good outcome from the school regarding the number of students entering. But very disappointed that our district does not support or promote the Lions Peace Poster, & at the District Convention it was an Non Event.
