These venues are generally too pricy for me personally. You will increase participation by having more central tournament at a much reduced cost, many golfers simply won't pay $200 to play golf anywhere. Having to drive one to two hours for an 8am start time does not work rather. The SIR rule allowing the 6 inch bump is a violation of the Rules of Golf. 33-1 of the USGA Rules manual states that the local committee cannot make a local rule that violates the rules of golf. USGA rules should be followed by all of SIR. One thing that is not good is having a poor B player in place of an A player If YOU cannot find enough A players and have to settle for less better off dropping that https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1daq0fCksktA3BOEgEmNz-rQxFbwBISCBNaQKZqo2WeE/viewanalytics 9/13 11/7/2014 SIR State Golf Survey - Google Forms foursome. if you can get a good deal on a hotel package then that would be preferred otherwise just give us organized golf outings. Good job with what you are doing. I participate in all tournaments. survey for Ladies of SIR members on the format they prefer: scramble, net, 2-best ball..... If the ladies want to play then most of the men would enter thereby increasing the participation overall....check it out !!! Last question should offer it both ways with one hotel designated as Host Hotel where a banquet would be held and that hotel offering some of the best rates Need an active handicap committee to monitor indexs and tournament scores. SIR scores seem to go against the NCGA math odds. scramble format for all women tournaments In 2014, I wanted to play in Reno but I live close enough (Auburn) to not require lodging. No flexibility, so I did not play. I'd like to see this changed in 2015. Gregory Kosinski [email protected] I see little to no interface between State and Area Golf Chairman within my Area/District. There is no ongoing communications between Area and Branch Chairmen in my area. Probably same in other areas. Additionally, preponderance of activities appear to favor events and meetings north SFO area. I thought that this was a statewide activity. Great Survey!!! My wife also plays golf and we go and play together many of the places that are suggested. I rather go to the outside of the area golf outings and play as a couple If I have to stay in a set hotel I am most likely not going to attend, it usually makes the trip too expensive. If Coeur d'Alene is considered...don't set event for earlier than June 15. In the State Team Championship, competition should be by flights based on a team's handicap. The number of flights is arbitrary, maybe based on the number of prizes to be given. The first place teams in each flight would earn the same payment. I offer this suggestion because I have played on a team the last two years and not even come close to winning. This past year at Rancho Solano, my team would have had to score 14 under par scratch to win the tournament, an impossible situation. There is simply too much advantage given to teams with the highest handicaps. Figure out how to speed up play. Peer pressure does NOT work. I should be able to use my local ncga hcp in SIR events and NOT have to pay twice to the ncga. I qualified to play in the championship golf tournament at Laguna Seca two years ago. I thought that the organization of the tournament was the very poor for a state championship golf tournament or any major golf tournament. It would take several paragraphs to outline the numerous reasons why I was disappointed in the SIRS golf https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1daq0fCksktA3BOEgEmNz-rQxFbwBISCBNaQKZqo2WeE/viewanalytics 10/13 11/7/2014 SIR State Golf Survey - Google Forms organization. For example: I placed second. I was told that I would get a dozen Titleist golf balls, but instead, I received a gift certificate for $30 for the Laguna Seca Golf Course, which I couldn't use because I live 3 hours away. In addition, $30 didn't come close to paying for a dozen golf balls. The lodging should be optional. What are the chances of Really getting A players that can hit the drives longer than 150 yds. and B players that can carry their weight. It is a embarrassing that the C & D playler out drive the A & B players. I have been told that some of the tournaments are not held to a very high standard. It has been said that some players pick up their ball as if the putt was a given, this is not in accordance to the Rules of Golf. I have also been told that some players have not had to qualify to play in some events, I don't know if this is a branch issue but for mos of those I talked to they feel it is not worth the effort or time to qualify and play along others that did not have to qualify to play in the events. The latest was the event held to allow players to play Poppy HIlls, Some never had to qualify for the tournament held at Spring Hills but if they qualified to move on they were playing for free while others had to pay and qualify. I am a stickler for the rules of golf, I didn't play at Spring Hills but if I had and the play was conducted as explained to me I would have wanted some players DQed for not following the rules, maybe someone should look into how these tournaments are conducted and make sure rules are followed especially during a tournament, thanks for letting me vent. Wife's illness prevents participation in away events. you guys do good Since integrity is one of the tenets of SIR, what is the rationale for the "SIR 6-inch" allowance for SIR golfers? Moving a ball in play is strictly against the Rules of Golf, and even "preferred lies" under adverse conditions are only allowed in fairway-length mown areas. Yet many (most, in my observation) SIR golfers think nothing of propping their ball on a tuft of grass in the rough or "bumping" it out from behind a tree via a generous interpretation of 6 inches, claiming they are playing "SIR Rules." Is there any chance of getting SIR golfers to abide by a fundamental principle of the Rules of Golf -- to play the ball as it lies -- so our organization can be viewed as serious golfers? This has become a golf organization for high handicap golfers and that is understandable given the average SIR golfer has a handicap well over 20. But at the same time the low handicap golfers under 13 have little chance week in and out competing against golfers who are designated as "A" players with a 17 handicap, which is ridiculous. For that reason I no longer play in SIR events. I have a timeshare at Paradise Village in Nuevo Vallarta and would be interested in a tournament there, especially if it took place at a "non hot and humid" time of the year and if there were a good program of activities for wives. The further the venue, the longer the stay. I like golf each day. If I want to extend the https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1daq0fCksktA3BOEgEmNz-rQxFbwBISCBNaQKZqo2WeE/viewanalytics 11/13 11/7/2014 SIR State Golf Survey - Google Forms stay, I like the flexibility of doing it myself. Though I, personally, am used to more skilled events, I think you get more participation with scrambles. It's more relaxed and at our age that's a good thing. Need special rates for Napa hotels for the 2015 tournament. We have large RV groups and alot of them are golfers. I think this will bring in more golfers to your tournaments if you would use both formats You can still have a banquet, I am sure they will pay for golf & banquet I have played in 2 of the state tournaments for our area and in each case members with 24-28 handi caps shot 82 - 84 I quite playing in the tournaments after that. I think all areas shoutd have 4 or 5 individual plays each year and record them scores so we can see what the real handi caps are compared to the sandbag postings. Then you would have a fair tournament. just my opinion. The State Individual Championship should play 36 holes in 2 days, low net, 4 flights only, but more prizes. A State two-man best ball championship should be added, following NCGA rules (max 18.4 hcp per player) would be a blast. Any overnight events need to include ladies. State Golf Committee emails ? Hotel and banquet depending on cost else book own accommodations and air fare to get package deal I've only played in local competitions and have no experience with destination play. My wife does not golf. Solvang was a great tournament but I think it's time to move on to another quality venue that will generate renewed interest. Would like to see a tournament where rules are enforced, such as no gimmes on putts. Many members do not know the rules and try to make them up as they go. Need people on course to assist with rules. SIR events cost to much. Your tournaments typically are too costly for what you get.
