2016 is shaping up to be a very strong year for conferences at the Austria Center
Vienna: the ten large-scale congresses booked between March and November will
draw a combined total of around 77,000 international participants. Eight of these
events will focus on medical specialisms, reflecting the outstanding international
reputation of Austria’s largest conference venue when it comes to staging medical
congresses with complex technical requirements. The decision to hold them in
Austria also highlights the excellent standing of the country’s scientists and
researchers, who help to attract specialist conferences to Vienna thanks to their
global networks of contacts.
Top scientists at the Austria Center Vienna: radiologists, kidney specialists
and gastroenterologists present the latest research results
The European Congress of Radiology (ECR) traditionally kicks off the conference
season in early March, with 20,000 radiologists in attendance, followed shortly
afterwards by the Congress of the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists
(EAHP).
Another regular event, the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly,
will see some 14,000 experts converge on the Austrian capital in April, while around
8,000 kidney specialists are expected to attend the European Renal Association –
European Dialysis and Transplantation Association (ERA-EDTA) Congress in May.
Sport will take pride of place in July, as Austria’s leading conference venue hosts the
Annual Congress of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS).
There is also a packed schedule in the autumn: 5,000 neuropsychologists will take
part in the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) Congress in
mid-September, before making way for the 9,000 specialists participating in the
Congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV). In
October, 9,000 gastroenterologists will travel to Vienna for United European
Gastroenterology (UEG) Week, while 5,000 pharmacology experts will take part in
the Annual European Congress of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics

and Outcomes Research (ISPOR). And finally, the Austria Center Vienna will
welcome 1,400 physicians in November for the European Public Health (EPH)
Conference.
Austria Center Vienna: new strategy and focus for the whole team a major
factor behind conference boom
Large-scale international conferences are booked around three years in advance,
with initial talks starting a long way before that. “I’m very pleased that our efforts over
the past few years – not only the redesign of the venue, in particular the new
furniture, the Business Lounge and the new lighting concept in Hall A, but also
the dedication of our sales team and project managers when it comes to staging
conferences – are now clearly bearing fruit. Especially in the last three years we have
shown just how effective the Austria Centre Vienna is at staging successful
international congresses,” commented Susanne Baumann-Söllner, Managing
Director of the Austria Center Vienna.
