what conservatism means and what we stand

WHAT
CONSERVATISM
MEANS AND WHAT
WE STAND FOR
“Government growing beyond our consent had become a lumbering
giant, slamming shut the gates of opportunity, threatening to
crush the very roots of our freedom. What brought America back?
The American people brought us back -- with quiet courage and
common sense; with undying faith that in this nation under God
the future will be ours, for the future belongs to the free.”
– Ronald Reagan
FACT: REPUBLICANS AGREE THE PARTY NEEDS TO
MOVE IN A CONSERVATIVE DIRECTION
More than half (54%) of Republicans said in a Pew
Research Center survey last July that the party should
move in a more conservative direction while 40% said
a more moderate approach was needed. While about
six-in-ten of Republicans overall said the party needed
to reconsider some of its positions
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE CONSERVATIVE?
“Conservatives believe in personal
responsibility, limited government, free
markets, individual liberty, traditional American
values and a strong national defense. Believe
the role of government should be to provide
people the freedom necessary to pursue their
own goals. Conservative policies generally
emphasize empowerment of the individual to
solve problems.”
-From Student News Daily
There are many different definitions of conservatism
today. There are also many politicians who claim to be
conservatives when they truly are not.
At Young Conservatives for a Better America, we take
our inspiration from Ronald Reagan—who committed
himself to reaching young people with his conservative
ideals and principles. As a lifelong conservative,
Ronald Reagan’s legacy proves that America is worth
fighting for.
EMBRACING THE CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES
OF RONALD REAGAN
In the book 11 Principles of a Reagan Conservative,
Dr. Paul Kengor identifies the key principles that lie at
the crux of Reagan’s conservatism. It is through these
principles that Reagan’s modern emulators may create
a successful, conservative future:

FACT: YOUNG VOTERS
(MILLENNIALS 18-33)
ARE OVERWHELMINGLY
UNDECIDED.
Pew Research Center surveys show that
half of Millennials (50%) now describe
themselves as political independents.
The Millennial generation is forging a
distinctive path into adulthood. They are
relatively unattached to organized politics
and religion, linked by social media,
burdened by debt.
IT IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT TO TELL YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS THE COUNTRY
NOT WHAT CONSERVATIVES ARE AGAINST, BUT WHAT WE’RE FOR.
Our goal at the Young Conservatives for a Better
America is to organize, motivate and mobilize the
conservative young Republican voters of America
to help elect and support candidates who share our
same goals and values.
These candidates are true conservative leaders
dedicated to replacing the Obama administration
with strong conservatives willing to make the difficult
decisions necessary to steer our country in the right
direction, both fiscally and socially.
