Lisa’s Letter
The time is drawing closer!
As many of you know we have
been anticipating a renovation
of Mable Rose for some time
now. I thought I’d take a
minute to update you and let
you know we are getting closer
and are hoping to see the start
of some changes by early this
summer. There will be many
more details to follow, but new
paint, carpet and furniture
throughout the community are some of the items being
finalized right now.
Please let me know if you have any questions thus
far. I’m happy to provide any information that I can. I
can be reached at [email protected] or at
(402) 682-6810.
Happy spring to you!

Renowned Rabbits
The Club Corner
With their sweet dispositions
and curious expressions, rabbits
have been welcome symbols of
spring for centuries. Hop into
the spirit of the season with this
list of beloved bunnies.
Peter Rabbit. British author
and illustrator Beatrix Potter
wrote numerous stories about
rabbits and other critters, but the
most famous is probably little
Peter Rabbit, who just can’t stay
out of Mr. McGregor’s garden.
The Velveteen Rabbit. Margery
Williams’ classic storybook, first
published in 1922, tells the
bittersweet tale of a plush toy
rabbit that experiences the magic
of a child’s love.
Bugs Bunny. This “wascally
wabbit” is probably the most
famous bunny of all. The
Looney Tunes star has appeared
in more than 200 cartoons.
The Trix Rabbit. Since 1959,
this silly rabbit has been trying
to get his hands on a bowl of his
favorite fruity cereal before
being scolded that “Trix are
for kids!”
Energizer Bunny. What do you
get when you give a giant pink
rabbit a pair of flip-flops,
sunglasses and a bass drum? An
advertising icon that just keeps
going ... and going ... and going.
I am so proud
to announce that
our very own
Club Leader Janet
Velasquez was honored at
Hillcrest’s annual Stakeholders
Dinner for being employed with
the company for 15 years. For all
of her hard work and
dedication, she was the recipient
of a $1,500 check.
She started working at
Hillcrest Health & Rehab in
2001 as a Personal Care
Assistant/Medication Aide at
Victoria Gardens. In 2011, Janet
started working at Hillcrest
Mable Rose as a Club Leader
and has been here ever since.
Janet enjoys working with the
members and her team so much
that she has plans to be at Mable
Rose until she turns 75 years of
age. Congratulations, Janet! We
love you!
The Club recently celebrated
Western Day by club and team
members wearing jeans,
bandanas, hats and cowboy
boots. Club member Jim Brazell
acted as the sheriff, and member
Doris Talburt acted as co-sheriff
for the day. It was a day full of
western trivia and fun photo
opportunities.

Neighborhoods
Welcome, spring! We have so
much planned, and I hope you
can join us for some of the fun.
We will be planning for our
garden in the next couple
months, and if you have
anything special you would like
to see planted please let me
know. We’ll also be hatching
chicks if all goes well, and we’ll
have caterpillars arriving soon so
that we can also witness
butterflies emerge.
We have a lot of
entertainment planned and
numerous outings. A big
shout-out to everyone who
attended the art show last
month. We had a lot of new
work from our residents and
family members. Thank you to
those that allowed us to display
their talents.
See you all in the courtyard!

5 Things About:
Butterflies
• Butterflies can be found
fluttering around every
continent except Antarctica.
• The insects feed on nectar
and pollen from flowers.
• They taste with their feet.
• A butterfly’s two eyes have
6,000 lenses each.
• Their wings are transparent
and covered with
thousands of scales. Light
reflecting off the scales
creates colors and patterns.

Friends of the Earth
Leadership Team
Protecting the environment
begins with an appreciation for
nature. As you step outside this
spring to enjoy the warmer
weather, pay attention to the
signs of life around you—the
new buds on trees and shrubs,
birds singing in the sky, and the
colorful wings of a butterfly in
flight. Each is a sweet reminder
of why Earth-friendly efforts
such as recycling and water
conservation are important.
