11. What were the strengths of the course? (Give the three most important)
13 har svarat av 30 (43%)
Kommentar:
--Strong understanding of patent policy around the world
-Good basic outline of what is needed in promoting a new product launch
-Good theoretical outline of how to identify potentially marketable ideas
-- useful knowledge and many skills applicable for the future,
- good balance between theory and practice,
- time allocated to the course was long-enough to immerse into the topic.

--The contents
-The assessment
- The report
-The course gave a very good overview of the overall development of drugs and medical devices from different
perspectives. The IP and developmental parts of the course were especially interesting. Additionally, the instructor was
very competent and knowledgeable in the field. I personally liked the 'real-life' examples he provided throughout the
course. In overall, the course was one of the most fruitful ones during the whole year.
-1. Integrated knowledge about product development
2. Business plan project experience
3. Effective communication with the supervisor
-Very useful for our future job. Knowledge of everything touched in the course very useful.
-- Applicable and important knowledge.
-Introduction to the value chain in biomedical industry
-Good/balanced amount of workload
-What the course tries to do, its ambition, is very good: Plenty of seminars and group work.
The content in both lectures and seminars were relevant.
Very quick and relevant feedback on assignments.
-- holistic picture of the full product development process in all its facets
- group work supported learning very well
- external input throughout all stages from industry experts
-Content ( combined all the regulations and the procedures in the Life Science industry from a business perspective)
Guest lecturers and Patrik, all, knew what they were talking about. Having thorough knowledge over the topics they spoke
was definetily a plus.
Written Exams. Made the evaluation more objective.
-- Patrik did a good job. He gave the opportunity for us to learn a lot and he supported a deeper understanding rather than
just by heart knowledge.
- Several different evaluations of our knowledge in order to make sure we as students progresses in our learning
- I liked the external lectures. They gave a good insight of the industy. More of those!
-It is good to have our own product to apply product development tools
Some guest lectures were helpful
-Theory and practice

12. What were the weaknesses of the course? (Give the three most important)
15 har svarat av 30 (50%)
Kommentar:
-The slides were too repetitive and hard to understand
--Too much emphasis on literature seminars rather than applicable case studies
-Poorly coordinated with our previous course material in that we had not previously seen how to write a business plan
-Spanned over winter break. Should rather be contained to a single period of time
-- some guest lecturers were repeating in their presentations the information covered during the course,
- assessment of group assessment (reports) could have been better elaborated on. I felt it was quite random to give every
group pass with distinction.
- more clarification on the assessment requirement would be appreciated.
-- Lack of theory
- Examination format
- The "theory workshops" didn't help much to understand and assimilate the theoretical concepts
-The guest lecturers were competent and knowledgeable in the field, but they often repeated one and the same thing
about product development. The course mostly gave the US perspective on certain topics, such as IP. Lastly, but not least,
the documents on the PingPong website felt very disorganized.
-1. Guest lectures are not always good
2. Less literature review
-A lot of different topics
-Evaluation criteria of the professor was slightly biast, his feedback was not useful,
-- Too much repetition during the lectures
- Hard to get an overview of the differences in biotech and pharma industry due to lectures
- Bit too long and weird deadlines (e.g. January the 5th, could have been given to a friday and not a monday)
-While the ambition of the course is good, the execution was not good when it comes to the seminars and workshops.
Group discussions in a class of 30 people only really means that a small, vocal minority speaks up. Also, discussions are
hard to conduct when so many people are involved.
Lecturers were not well synced in what they would cover: The regulatory model (phase 0-4) for pharmaceuticals was

covered on multiple occasions.
The course leader should feel that he has the liberty to take more charge. Sometimes, the course felt a little directionless.
-- literature workshops were not engaging enough
- in a pedagogical sense, some of the lecture material could have been better
-Too much focus in medical devices, sometimes we did not receive adequate knowledge in drugs.
Although it was one of the few courses where we actually had some case studies, there was not big diversity in the topics.
-- The litterature seminars can be constructed better (but it's important to remember that they still gave us a good learning
experiance if effort was put into them)
- Sometimes other students weren't motivated and did not participate actively in the lectures.
-literature seminar are not an efficient way to learn, It is better with case studies.
Individual reflections is a good way to auto evaluate our performance, however, the grading scale for this assignment
should be reconsidered
-Too much was relying on team mates
A bit too stressful
13. Any suggestions for how to improve the course?
(Give the three most important)
10 har svarat av 30 (33%)
Kommentar:
-- inform guest lecturers about the scope of the knowledge covered already during the lectures,
- literature seminars were useful so it will be good to keep them, nevertheless in case of presentations, it will be often
more useful if each group focused only on one aspect for the presentation, not all of them. Doing five aspects for a
presentation in a hurry, as compared to only one quite detailed and professionally could be more beneficial.
- it will be nice to suggest literature which is more focused on European patent law
-- Change the "theory workshops" dynamics
- Focus more on European legislation/regulations
- Test exam
-Maybe, it would be more reasonable to give the guest lecturers a more specific topic or the area that they can talk about,
rather than talking about overall product development in general. Also, it would be better if in overall the course had more
European perspective on specific topics, such as regulations and IP, since this is where most of us are interested in working
afterwards. Additionally, there needs to be some improvements from the organizational perspective. Lastly, it would be
better if the course lasted longer since the content felt a little bit too squeezed in the given time-period.
-1. Invite product managers as guest lecturers
2. Write book assignment instead of long discussion in class
-- More diverse lectures, potentially with less guest lectures as they were confusing.
-How to improve the points given in 12:
Break down the class into smaller segments for discussion. Use, for example, other teachers, year 2 MBE students or
alumni to moderate discussions in groups of 4-8.
Better communicate to lecturers what they are expected to cover, and which areas close to their expertise that have
already been covered previously.
Have a clear plan for what is expected of us (the students). We expect to receive clear goals with assignments.
-- include more case studies since cases are more interactive than literature workshops
- invite more people with real-life product development experience or at least maintain the current level
- encourage students to pursue their product ideas further and actively support them in doing so, maybe even include
some rapid prototyping session etc
-Although there were many lectures and many times long-lasting ones, in the end, some topics required further
elaboration. Probably splitting the course in more parts or taking some out will enhance the learning process by putting
more focus on specidic topics. For example Health economics that as a concept fits both in the Product development course
and Market Analysis could be either a separate course, in which principles, tools and reimbursability prerequisities could be
discussed or be combined to extend the Market Analysis course, which only lasted one month. That will also allow to put
more focus in particular in other areas of the product development.
Examination after the first part, after crhristmas( it could be wirtten too)
Analyze more in detail and describe separately the product development of drugs and medical devices
-Read and study for literature seminars before hand, and during the seminar apply the knowledge to case studies rather
than answering questions which answers are in the book. It is better to challenge students to think instead of make them
