Cheat the New Year
Half an hour before your kids' bedtime, switch
the clocks to 11:30 P.M. Count down to
"midnight" together then bang pots and pans.
Put your kiddos to bed and ring in the new year
again with your partner.
The best material for
stringing cranberry
or popcorn garlands
is inside your medicine cabinet. Waxed
floss is strong and
slick, so cranberries
and popcorn will
slide on easily. Knot
one end of a piece of
floss, and thread a
needle onto the
other; just pierce
through the kernels
and berries, and slip
them on.
Forget Lemonade
Set up a hot-chocolate stand. On a mild afternoon
when families will likely be outside, offer cups of hot
cocoa, along with candy canes for stirring. Donate the
proceeds to a charity of your child's choosing like
PFC.
Not-so-white Christmas
Fill up a few spray bottles with
water and various shades of food
coloring, then send the kids out to
create their masterpieces in the
snow.
MAKE A FESTIVE
FRAME: Make a white
frame (or spray-paint
one) a pretty focal point
by hanging an ornament
from the hook in back.

These cookie-cutter ornaments make
great, sentimental gifts; luckily
they're faster to make than cookies
are to bake.
Use inexpensive aluminum cutters
and choose patterned papers or pictures photocopied onto card stock.
Trace cutter on top; cut out. Dab
white craft glue along cutter's edge.
Press paper in place; let dry. Thread
narrow ribbon through needle; poke
between paper and cutter, and wrap
ribbon around top of cutter. Slip a
bead over ribbon's ends; knot.
Take a Family Bedtime Drive
Get everyone in their pj's, fill up thermoses with hot cocoa (cooled to room temp
for little guys) and pile into the car. Put on Christmas music and cruise around the
neighborhood, admiring the lights.
CITRUS SLICE ORNAMENTS
Make beautiful, seasonal ornaments that add color to your tree.
Cut four unpeeled oranges into rounds about 1/4-inch thick and
bake on a greased cookie sheet at 175 degrees for 4 hours. To
hang, poke a hole near one edge with a needle and thread doubled
twine through to make a loop
This is a quick little project for kids of all ages and a fast way to make tree decorations by using
half sticks of cinnamon. To make this rustic country Christmas star begin by taking your sticks
and laying them on top of each other to form a 5 point star. You do this by creating two triangles. Secure the ends by adding a dab of glue and binding it with decorative twine. Do this to all
the points of the star. Glue a loop onto the top so you can hang it.
SLEEP OVER: Another fun tradition is to have all of the kids have a sleepover in one room and know
that they can stay up as late as they want together watching Christmas movies and playing games, but
they have to stay in the room (usually the furthest room from the Christmas tree so they don’t over hear
“Santa”). This also keeps them up late and makes them tired, hopefully keeping them from waking up
mom and dad at 4 AM.
Candy Cane
Marshmallow
Pops
Sprinkle crushed candy canes on chocolate-dipped marshmallows for a festive treat.
