A.C.E.S. @ Wright Elementary 1302 Adrian 219-7732 (ACES) – 219-7700 (Stacy Hurst) A.C.E.S. INFORMATION PACKET Trespassing: Students are not allowed on any other LISD campuses before school, after school, or on weekends while attending the ACES program as this is considered to be trespassing. Students who trespass on other LISD campuses may be ticketed and fined by LISD police and/or have extra day(s) added to their ACES assignments. School Hours: 7:40 – 2:50 Transportation Parents have two options for transporting students to ACES. The first option allows parents to transport students directly to the ACES program located at 1302 Adrian St. The second option allows parents to transport students to Dupre Elementary, located at 2008 Ave. T, where they may ride a bus to the ACES campus. Option 1: Parents Transporting Students Directly to ACES ACES Arrival Times: 7:40 – 7:50 ACES Arrival Procedures *Parents must physically walk students to the ACES portables and leave them with an ACES teacher. Teachers will open the doors at 7:40. If students arrive before 7:40, they may not be left unattended and they may not enter the main building. An adult must remain with the student until the student enters the classroom at 7:40. (Please park along the street by the ACES portables, as the parking lot is designated for employee parking only. Thank you!!) * If a student arrives after 7:50, the parent and student must go to Tardies (after 7:50) the front office at Wright Elementary where they will be issued a tardy slip that must be presented to the classroom teacher in order for the student to enter the classroom. *Students with 3 tardies will have an extra day added to their ACES assignment. ACES Departure Times: 2:50 – 3:05 ACES Parents, or any person give written permission by parents, may pick Departure Procedures Late Departures (after 3:05) Early Departure (Before 2:50) up students between 2:50 and 3:05. Any approved person picking up a student must go to the classroom and sign the student out of class. An ID will be requested. Students must depart ACES no later than 3:05. If a student departs late a total of 3 times, an extra day will be added to the student’s ACES assignment. If a student needs to leave ACES any time before 2:50, the student’s parent must go to the front office at Wright in order to obtain a pass for the student to leave class. Option 2 (Bus): Parents Transporting Students to Dupre Elementary Dupre Arrival Times: 7:10 – 7:25 Dupre Arrival Procedures Tardies (after 7:50) The ACES assistant will arrive at Dupre at 7:10. Parents must physically walk students to the Dupre entrance and leave them with the ACES assistant. If students arrive before 7:10, they may not enter the building and they may not be left unattended. An adult must remain with the student until the ACES assistant arrives at 7:10. The bus will depart Dupre at 7:25. If a student misses the bus, parents will be responsible for transporting the student to the ACES program. * If a student arrives after 7:50, the parent and student must go to the front office at Wright Elementary where they will be issued a tardy slip that must be presented to the classroom teacher in order for the student to enter the classroom. *Students with 3 tardies will have an extra day added to their ACES assignment. Dupre Departure Times: 3:05 – 3:15 Dupre Departure Procedures Bus # 118 should arrive at Dupre around 3:05. Parents, or any person given written permission by parents, may pick up students between 3:05 and 3:15. Any approved person picking up a student needs to meet with the ACES assistant and sign-out the student. An ID will be requested. Late Departures (after 3:15) Students must depart Dupre no later than 3:15. If a student departs late a total of 3 times, an extra day will be added to the student’s ACES assignment. Early Departure (Before 2:50) If a student needs to leave ACES any time before 2:50, the student’s parent must go to the front office at Wright in order to obtain a pass for the student to leave class. Absences Please call ACES at 219-7732 to report an absence. - - Absences do not count toward the completion of students’ ACES assignments and must be made-up before students may return to their home campus. If a student arrives late or departs early due to a doctor’s appointment, a doctor’s excuse is required in order for the day to count toward the student’s assignment. If a student departs early due to personal reasons, it is the discretion of the principal as to whether or not the day will count toward the student’s assignment. Materials: Students need to leave all personal belongings (including jewelry, watches, wallets, etc…) and school supplies at home. Searches Upon entering the ACES classroom each day, students will be checked by the teacher or the teaching assistant to determine if the student has any unnecessary items on them when they arrive. If students are found with any unnecessary items such as personal belongings / school supplies, they will be asked to do one of the following: - - place the item(s) in a paper bag which will be sent home at the end of the day. if the student continually brings unnecessary items, argues, or tries to hide items, the items will be confiscated and returned to the student at the end of his/her ACES assignment, or a parent may personally retrieve the items. candy/food items will be disposed of immediately. electronic devices must be retrieved by a parent. Dress Code Students are required to follow the LISD dress code as well as meet ACES standards. If a student’s attire does not meet dress code requirements, the ACES staff will attempt to modify the clothing so that it might meet the dress code requirements. If the attire cannot be modified, parents will be contacted to bring acceptable clothing or take the student home until appropriate clothing is made available. Please make sure the following dress code is followed at all times: - Girls’ shirts must cover their stomach and back area when they sit or stand. - Boys must wear their shirts tucked into their pants. - - All students must wear pants that stay up at their waist without the need for the students to keep pulling them up. A belt may be worn. (Zip ties will be provided if needed.) Students are not allowed to wear a coats, jackets, or hoodies in the classroom. Students may not wear flip-flops or house shoes. All shoes must cover and stay on the student’s feet at all times. Class Rules: 1. Raise your hand and get permission before speaking or leaving your seat. 2. Disagree calmly. (Do not argue.) 3. Follow directions immediately. 4. Respect other people’s personal space. (Do not touch other students or their property for any reason.) 5. Complete all work neatly and always do your best. 6. Keep all school property (papers, erasers, folders, books, desks, walls, etc…) clean and in one piece. Homework: Students are not assigned homework but may earn homework. Students who do not complete their work during the school day due to inappropriate behavior or failure to participate in class will be expected to complete the work at home. A grade of zero will be assigned until the work is completed and returned. Daily Evaluations Students will receive evaluations every day. The evaluation is an important form of communication between parents, teachers and students because we work as a team. Students are required to have their evaluation signed and returned every day. - If a student forgets one evaluation, he/she will be given a verbal reminder. - If on the second day the student still does not return the evaluation, the teacher will contact the student’s parent. - If the evaluation is not returned after the parent is contacted, the student will earn a conference report and will be required to meet with Mrs. Stephens. Meals Breakfast: Breakfast is served at no cost to students from 7:40 – 7:50. Breakfast is not served after 7:50. Hot Lunch: All students will eat the hot lunch, first choice. Students are not allowed to purchase any special food items such as ice cream as this is a privilege that may be earned by the student upon returning to their home school. Sack Lunches: If a student chooses to bring a lunch, no soft drinks, candy or fast food is allowed. Students who bring their lunch need to follow the same dietary guidelines as those followed by the cafeteria. Food Allergies: If your student suffers from food allergies, this information must be on file in our cafeteria. Medication If your student takes medication during the school day, a medication form must be filled out completely and signed by a parent/guardian. The medication must come in the original container with the prescription on it. The container needs to contain only enough medication for the time the student will attend ACES. Medication will be stored in the nurse’s office and may only be distributed during the times and for the amounts listed on the label. Notes from parents may not be used in place of a prescription label. Counseling An LISD counselor will provide individual counseling for students during their ACES assignments if required by the home campus, is requested by parents, or deemed necessary by the ACES staff. Exiting Procedures On the student’s last day at ACES, an exit form will be faxed to the student’s sending campus. You may take you student to his/her home campus the next day. Please check in the school’s front office on the first day in order to avoid any confusion.
