How does a sense of wonder motivate a child’s learning?

Greeting Families
Last week the student teachers took turns planning
and implementing a small group. Pictured are some of
the activities that took place.
While on a scavenger hunt for shapes Graham
searched and searched for an octagon.
“I can’t find one, I can’t find a octagon anywhere. I
need something with eight sides”
Graham brainstormed with a teacher, counted the
number of sides on the picture of the octagon and
then created his own with Lego’s.
Maudh shows the group what he found.
“See it’s a hexagon and it’s yellow with six sides.”
Lily is showing a long rectangle that she was planning
to use in creating a collage.
“It’s so tiny and long, long, long. It’s still a rectangle.”
The group also listened to a favorite interactive book,
Press Here by Herve’ Tullet
Then several of the children in the group also asked for
a favorite song, Sammy, by Hap Palmer. We have also
begun to thing about how we might ‘change and
create’ our own version of the song. Ask your
daughter/son about Sammy.
On the second page the children are creating their own
Rectangle Kid, which was an activity that we did last
week. After several children asked to do it again. As
well as repeat the poem associated with it. I provided
the opportunity for each child to create their own
Rectangle Kid to take home. I hope you enjoy this
activity with your child.
