David Chung of Fayetteville came into the North Carolina
Junior as the runner-up in the 2004 U.S. Junior Amateur
and left as the champion in his first CGA championship by
defeating Justin Gupton of Charlotte in the finals of the
NC Junior Boys Championship. Chung showed his short
game skills by saving par several times on the tough Donald
Ross designed greens of Carolina Golf and Country Club in
Charlotte. Gupton, who is a member of Carolina, hoped that
his home course knowledge would get his name on the trophy,
but he ran into a buzz-saw when he had to play Chung in the
finals who’s consistency and up-and-downs for par allowed
him to beat Gupton 3&2. Chung, who is home schooled,
was excited with his first CGA win and vows to return to defend his title.
