University Park
University Park, Nottingham is beautifully placed within 330 acres of
rolling parkland. The attractive park is set in extensive greenery
around a lake with long established woodland, contemporary
gardens and the Millennium garden, a quiet reflective place in which
to escape the hustle and bustle of life.
For those wishing to arrive early, the weekend will kick off with an
optional dinner on Friday night in Cavendish Hall. Over the weekend,
all accommodation, entertainment and evening meals will be served
in Cavendish Hall.
During the day, the Sir Clive Granger building will host the
conference presentations, workshops and interactive sessions.
Lunches and tea breaks will also take place here, providing ample

Educators’ Workshop
Following the success of last year’s educators’ autumn workshop,
on Friday afternoon a workshop will be taking place in the
Sir Clive Granger building. The workshop will provide an opportunity
for course provider educators and the Society education team to
come together to generate ideas, assess their own work and
discuss any challenges. The workshop is open to educators and
those interested in education. For further information, please contact
Society Professional Standards Manager Victoria Garratt at
[email protected]
Interactive Workshops
Select two workshops of your choice on Saturday afternoon and find
out more about a range of topics and projects. Sessions will be run
by 4Homeopathy, Travelling Homoeopaths Collective, The Ghana
Project and the Society Research team. Further information about
the workshops will be available at www.homeopathy-soh.org/events.
Soapbox
An opportunity for delegates to share a passion or knowledge,
express an opinion or get something off their chest. Do you have
something to say about a particular frustration, changes in the
profession or society in general, a gem of information to share?
Would you like five minutes on ‘a soap box’ to share your thoughts
with other delegates? If so, please summarise your idea for a five
minute soapbox slot in 100 words and email to
[email protected] by 1st September. We look
forward to hearing from you!
Save money on your ticket!
Book early to make the most of the special early bird discount rate.
We are also pleased to be able to offer all Society members a saving
of £50. Newly Registered members (undergoing Registration) and
Students at Society recognised courses can also save money on
their ticket. To help spread the cost, payment in three intalments is
also available. You could also win your ticket! All bookings will
automatically be entered into a prize draw and the winner will receive
reimbursement for the cost of their ticket. The draw will be held at
the drinks reception on Saturday evening.

Anne Schadde – Seven Tourmalines in homeopathy
According to an old Egyptian legend, the Tourmaline is said to have
wandered across a rainbow on its way out of the earth and by doing
so, it took on all the colours thus becoming “the rainbow gemstone”.
The most beautiful and wonderous colours and light come from the
dark depths of the earth; precious objects, which carry the greatest
spiritual energies. The solidified symbolic purity, perfection and
preciousness concealed within gemstones, must be released.
Tourmaline is complex in its diversity. The varying combinations of
differing mineral constituents are what give each type of Tourmaline a
special meaning. Micro crystals collect to form a new organism.
One could say, they arrange themselves for a particular purpose.
In this rhythmical array of minerals lies the essence of the crystal. In
comparison, Diamonds – similar in hardness to Tourmaline – are
composed of carbon only and therefore there is only one name and
one pattern. Through homeopathic trituration and potentisation and the
subsequent homeopathic proving, we gain an additional dimension
from this gem. As illustrated by the case descriptions we can see
what deep healing potentized Tourmaline can initiate in the treatment
of the patients.
Anne Schadde began to practice homeopathy and
psychotherapy in Munich in 1986. She was one of the
founders of the Homeopathy Forum in Gauting/Munich, the
European & International Councils for Classical Homeopathy
and teaches in Germany and other countries. Anne has
conducted homeopathic provings of Ozone, Lithium
carbonicum, Ginkgo biloba, Cypraea eglantina (Cowrie-Shell),
Lignum aquilaria agallocha (a scented wood), Lapislazuli and
the last proving the Tourmalines. The first provings are
published in ‘Listening to Stone, Wood and Shell’, Homoeopathic Medical
Publishers, Mumbai 2004. 'The Seven Tourmalines’ is available as a Homeopathy,
eBook in the iBooks Store, 2016.
Dr Elizabeth Thompson – From protocols to
well-matched similars – supporting patients
through cancer treatments
Dr Elizabeth Thompson has twenty years experience of prescribing for
cancer patients having trained in conventional cancer and palliative
care. She draws on a wide range of homeopathic experts from
Grimmer to Banerjee. Working towards reducing confusion in this
complex area, she will revise Sankaran’s levels to help us understand
where we are in the territory which is important for matching
medicines, managing expectations and choosing potencies. Using
video and paper cases from her daily practice she will illuminate this
important area of clinical care.
Elizabeth Thompson is Lead Clinician for the Portland
Centre for Integrative Medicine in Bristol which delivers the
NHS homeopathic service along with a range of IM services.
She is also the Academic Director for a five-year teaching
programme for health care professionals and post graduate
teaching for professional and medical homeopaths including
the Bristol and Scottish masterclasses and GEMS (see
www.portlandcentrehealthcare.co.uk for details). Dr Thompson
was awarded her DM thesis from Oxford University in
2009, the first homeopathic thesis to sit in the Bodleian library
describing her research into the use of homeopathy for the cancer patient. She is a
fellow of the Faculty of Homeopathy and council member of the College of Medicine
and was elected Vice President of the Faculty of Homeopathy in February 2011.
Linda Shannon and the Ghana Homeopathy Project
team – The Ghana Homeopathy Project: Creating a
sustainable future for homeopathy in Ghana
From small beginnings in a Ghanaian village called Mafi Seva 11 years
ago, the Ghana Homeopathy Project has grown into a strong,
sustainable entity. United by their passion, the GHP team has worked
alongside Ghana partners to create: a thriving village homeopathic
clinic, 4-year professional Diploma courses and the Kumasi
Homeopathy Study Group; homeopathic libraries and clinics. Each
branch of the project has adapted to local circumstances and has a
unique quality.
In this presentation, which will include videos from Ghana with cases,
founder Linda will introduce the project - past, present and future. She
will explore the challenges that have been encountered and the deep
commitment needed to nurture this endeavour. Sheila will share stories
from the lives of patients at Mafi Seva to help understand their cases in
their context of Ewe culture and values. Her work with aural histories is
about returning stories to people, especially women, who, for a while
have become ‘patients’ and ‘cases’.
Lyn will share her experience of coordinating the Kumasi
Homeopathy Study Group as it continues into its second year of a
four-year Diploma course. Using a unique combination of teaching
methods (classrooms, webinars, mentoring and apprenticeship
models), they have created a vibrant course with an enthusiastic group
of students who are a joy to teach.
Another unique aspect, introduced by Angie, has been enabling
Ghanaian students to study in India and bringing inspiring Indian
homeopaths to Ghana to share their vast experience. As time passes,
the GHP has expanded both in Ghana and the UK. Jacqueline Smith,
the co-ordinator, will talk about developing visions of what is achievable
and how to enable homeopathy to flourish in Ghana.
Linda Shannon, MSc, COH, RSHom is the founder of the
Ghana Homeopathy Project. Qualified in 1984 and practices in
Dorset and London. Teaches at The Contemporary College of
Homeopathy and has been Course Leader of the London
College Classical Homeopathy. She organised homeopathic
study trips to Kolkata, combining her love of India with her
passion for homeopathy. Experiencing the effective and
widespread use of homeopathy at village level in India has been
the inspiration for the Ghana Homeopathy Project.
Sheila Ryan BSc. DSH, RSHom, F. S Hom has been a part
of the Ghana Homeopathy Project since it’s first year. Her focus
is the Mafi Seva village clinic in Upper Volta region. She has
been a member of the GHP core team and project supervisor.
This year, Sheila has spent time at Mafi Seva, recording village
life at a time of rapid change. These stories provide rich insight
into patients’ lives, especially those of women. Author of Vital
Practice. Lives on the isle of Portland in Dorset where she runs
Sea Change Supervisions.
Lyn Clark. BA. MSc., LCCH, RSHom has been in full-time
practice since 1986. She has been involved in the Ghana
Homeopathy Project since 2012. Lyn works within the
Society registration programme supporting practitioners
entering the register. She is Chair of the Homeopathy
Course Providers Forum, teaches at the Southern
College of Homeopathy and lectures. She is
deeply committed to homeopathy
education, enjoys creating
training programmes and has a strong mentoring and
supervision practice.

Steven Cartwright originally trained in biochemistry and obtained a PhD
from the University of Edinburgh. Later, as a research fellow at Oxford
University, he came across homeopathy by accident and was instantly
intrigued! Four years of training were then followed by 25 years of
practice. However, the need to understand how homeopathic medicines
produce their profound healing effects has always been an essential part
of Steven's practice, and luckily obtaining funding in the last five years has
allowed the dream of carrying out physico-chemical research in
homeopathy to be realised.
Erik van Woensel – The influence of the level of health of
the patient on the homeopathic treatment.
Erik will talk about the reason why homeopathy in some cases is easy and the
remedy is clear, and why in some cases we struggle. Using illustrative cases he
will demonstrate why we can or cannot recognise an appropriate remedy easily,
and how we can have better results in our practice.
He will explain the importance of the selection of the right strategy or
technique to come to the right remedy, and appropriate differentiation of the
remedies coming up during the analysis, calling upon his knowledge about
levels of health and the condition of the defence mechanism, developed over
many years with George Vithoulkas. He will present a clear system of case
analysis, and provide different strategies and techniques for coming to a
prescription. He will give clear guidelines on how to recognise a strong or a
weakened defence mechanism and how to use this information for the analysis,
showing the relationship between the weakening of the defence mechanism
and the diminishing clarity of the remedy pattern.
Erik van Woensel has been practicing homeopathy and teaching at
various international seminars for 34 years. He is the author of
Characteristics and Peculiarities. A Compiled Materia Medica - Radar
Keynotes 4; of the series Classical Homeopathy - Evidence Based
Medicine and Case Analysis in Homeopathy; and is co-author with
Professor George Vithoulkas of Levels of Health. For eleven years Erik
has advised and assisted the development team of the repertory
Synthesis. He is also the moderator of Vithoulkas’ e-learning program.
Erik's aim is to spread awareness of homeopathy by teaching, writing,
and researching the possibilities of homeopathy to bring the application of homeopathy to a
higher level. To achieve this he founded among other things - the Archive for Homeopathy.
Erik also supervises groups of both newly qualified
and experienced homeopaths.
Anne Schadde, Dr Elizabeth Thompson, Linda Shannon & Ghana Team, Steven Cartwright and Erik van Woensel
Using solvatochromic dyes to investigate homeopathic medicines at the physico
chemical level is providing a wealth of fascinating information about potencies.
This presentation will focus on recent developments in this rapidly evolving line
of research. In particular we will look at results which illustrate the essential
polarity of potencies, and how their effects in solution seem to mirror what we
see in clinical practice.
Results will be presented which appear to provide an explanation of the
so-called homeopathic aggravation and why it occurs, as well as laying the
foundations for ultimately answering the all-important question “How does
homeopathy work?”
The chemistry involved in this presentation will be kept as simple as possible
in order to impart a general understanding of the principals involved. The focus
of the presentation will be on looking at fundamental studies in homeopathy
within the context of patients.
Speakers
Steven Cartwright – Solvatochromism and homeopathy:
how results from fundamental studies are informing what
we see in clinical practice.
