What are the implications of the reformed Common
Agricultural Policy and Rural Development?
Some examples…
•New features include PES & increased flexibility for
MS to chose measures.
•Greening of payments under Pillar 1 (e.g., 30% for
the provision of public environmental goods)
•5 % to LEADER
Low uptake of forestry-related measures in the
previous programming period.

Not only doom-and-gloom…
• EU strategy for the Alpine region.
• Macro regional strategies of this kind may
actually help to bring regional and mountainspecific topics back on the political agenda as
well as help to facilitate change.
