NEWS AND NOTES December 11, 2016
During Communion distribution, the Communion hymn is sung. As long as
people are communing, the next consecutive hymns in the hymnal are sung.
We do not stand for doxological hymns during Communion distribution.
Worship Note: During Advent, we will omit the singing of the Gloria in
Excelis (pp. 187-189) in the Divine Service. In Matins we will sing the
"Advent" versicle (bottom of p. 219) and we will sing the Benedictus (p.
226f) instead of the Te Deum.
The soul of Helen Bultemeier departed into Christ's heavenly arms last
Wednesday. Her funeral was yesterday at 11am. May we each number our
days and apply our hearts to wisdom.
The following children celebrate Baptism birthdays in the month of
December: Katelyn Reinhart, Katelyn Borne and Ashlynn Williams.
They will be asked forward at the beginning of the 10:15am service. Let us
rejoice! We have been cleansed by Christ!
YOUTH NEWS: December 11: ALL Youth Shut-in Christmas Caroling
1-4pm. January 26-29: National March for Life/LCMS Life Conference
in Washington D. C. March 25-April 2: 500th Anniversary of
Reformation Trip to Germany.
This Wednesday we continue our 7pm Wednesday Advent worship
services, contemplating the "Shepherd Predictions" of the coming Savior.
This Wednesday we will consider "Eternal Shepherd to Be Born", based on
Micah's prediction in Micah 5:2-5a. Seminarian Nathaniel Jensen will be
our preacher. Come, join your brothers and sisters as we reflect on this
theme in God's Holy Word.
Pastor Brege will be in the church this Saturday, 6-7pm, to give private
absolution. Our Catechism says, "Which sins should we confess? Before
the pastor we should confess those sins only that we know and feel in our
heart."
Reminder: Our next Elders and Church Council meetings will be
tomorrow, December 12 at 6pm and 7pm. The Voters meeting will be at
7pm on Tuesday, December 13. These meetings exist to establish our
church's budget and to elect/appoint those who will serve in 2017. Other
necessary business may also be considered.
There will be a Wyneken Music Department Christmas Concert on
Thursday, December 15 at 6:30pm: Let us help put you in the Christmas
spirit! All families and friends of the Wyneken community are invited to
enjoy an hour of Christmas Songs and Carols presented by the Wyneken
Chime Players, students of the Wyneken band and the lovely voices of the
Wyneken Choir (grades 6-8).
The Ladies Aid Christmas party will be held this Thursday beginning at
6:30pm. Please make your reservations with Lynn Brege (547-4256),
Catherine Faurote (223-1961), or Barb Bulmahn (223-0506) by TODAY!
Remember your gift for your Secret Pal and a gift for your spouse.
Attention all members! Grant applications for St Paul-Preble Endowment
Fund 2017 grants are due by January 9th. The Lord has blessed our
congregation with funds that can be used for a variety of uses. These
include: 1. Missions: Local, regional and world projects. 2. Youth:
Support for youth of all ages. 3. Worship and Music: Support for the
worship activities of our congregation. 4. Capital Projects: Major
renovations and building of new facilities. All members are encouraged to
participate in this process. No fundraising is required! Please give extra
thought and consideration to potential uses for these funds. Application
forms and Bylaws can be found on the tables in the rear of the church.
Completed forms or any questions should be addressed to Steve Kreigh,
Scott Ainsworth, Kim Fravel, or Bob Keuneke.
As noted in our prayers, we will be praying for members who have not
attended church here in quite some time; this will also include members of
the military. We will be going through the alphabet the next several weeks,
praying that God would guide these people to hear His Word. If you know
any of these people (perhaps as a relative or close friend), please inform
them of our prayers/concern, and inform Pastor Brege as to their Christian
life.
We are looking for a new volunteer to keep track of the Baptism birthdays
for our children, as we monthly call them forward for special remembrance.
We thank Janine Albert for having done this for many years. Contact either
Janine or Pastor Brege for more information.
Wyneken parents who attend worship here with their Wyneken children are
reminded to initial their column on the special books in the narthex. Recall
that each family with their Wyneken children must attend at least 14
services at the church each 6 months to retain their member tuition status.
The Voters are now accepting bids for the following contracted positions:
Music Director, Secretary, Grounds Keeper, Custodian. Submit such a bid
to one of the Trustees (Charlie Walters, Nolan Scheuman, Tom Reinhart).
Bids must be submitted by December 12.
"Dear Ministry Partners, Thank you for sharing your treasure in furthering
the ministry of your church by supporting the district/synod, CTS and LBT
ministries. All of who we are and what we have, comes from God and is to
be used for God's purposes. God can use our uniqueness, weaknesses, and
eccentricities to communicate God's powerful presence and love. Walking
with You, Pastor Dan May and Indiana District LCMS Staff."
"Prayer list" for members to use as they bring the needs of others before
God's throne of grace: Carol Bieberich's cancer has returned; Cathy
Terhune has miraculously shown improvement! Sydney Tinkel (4 yr. old
acquaintance of Suzie Steiner); Mrs. Harvey; Bonnie Gallmeyer; Penny
Smith; Ruth Brege.
The lessons for next Sunday are Isaiah 7:10-17; Romans 1:1-7; Matt. 1:1825.

Sermon: "Discouraged Prophet?"
Matthew 11:2-10
I. Who was John?
A. ...a reed in the wind? a man with soft clothing?
B. ...a great prophet?
II. But John was just a man.
A. He, like you and me, apparently became discouraged.
B. His faith reached out to Jesus; he sought His Word.
P: Lord, in your mercy C: Hear our prayer.
