To Qualify:
All teams will qualify for the tournament and be seeded by the committee.
Entries:
Entries must be postmarked no later than Monday, May 1st. Regardless of the reason, games not completed by
Monday, May 1st will not count. Do not send records in advance of the cutoff date.

all coaches). Coaches who are not comfortable using Google Sheets are permitted to email their entry forms to

Non-member schools: $125
Please remit check with entry form. Checks will be returned if your team is not admitted into the tournament.
Checks should be made out to: Bergen County Women Coaches Association. Failure to have the entry fee paid
will result in disqualification.
Seeding Meeting:
The seeding committee will meet on Tuesday, May 2nd; brackets will be posted on www.bcwca.us immediately
after the meeting. The meeting will be held in Room 809 at River Dell High School.

Officials:
Officials for the preliminary round will be hired and paid for by the higher seed (home team). The lower seed
(visiting team) will provide their own transportation. Officials for all other rounds of the tournament will be
assigned and paid for by the BCWCA.
Rules:
The 2017 National Federation Softball Rules will govern all tournament games.
Seeding:
All teams entering the tournament will be seeded by the Seeding Committee; the state power point formula will
only be used to assist the seeding. All teams will be seeded.
Seeding Committee:
The Softball seeding committee will be comprised of 3 Big North coaches, 3 NJIC coaches, and the defending
Tournament champion coach. The 6 league reps were selected in advance of the seeding meeting by a vote of the
head coaches in their respective leagues.
Volunteers:
The BCWCA welcomes adult volunteers from member schools to act as scorekeepers, announcers, grounds crew
members, gate workers, etc.
Softballs:
Wilson brand optic yellow softballs will be supplied for the final.
Athletic Trainers:
The BCWCA makes every attempt to hire a certified athletic trainer to be present at all tournament games from
the Round of 16 onward. If your school’s athletic trainer is interested in working any of the dates, please contact
the tournament director.
Forfeit Procedure:
The tournament director has the authority to declare a contest a forfeit if teams do not follow established
tournament procedures.
Protests:
Protests based on an official’s judgment, misinterpretation, or misapplication of the playing rules will not be
honored.
Suspended Games:
All tournament games will be played to completion. Games may be suspended due to inclement weather,
darkness or unforeseen circumstances. Suspended games will be continued from the point of suspension.
Postponements:
Every attempt will be made to provide information regarding postponements no later than one hour prior to
scheduled game times.
General Information:
 This tournament will be a single elimination tournament.
 The higher seeded team will be the home team for all tournament games. The visiting team will have
choice of bench area, with exception of a host team playing at their site.

All schools should have an administrator present at their games.
The winning team is responsible for providing the results/statistics of the game to the newspapers.
The tournament director has the authority to reschedule tournament games in the case of conflict with
NJSIAA State Tournament Finals, proms, and SAT’s. No games will be rescheduled due to class trips or
other school activities.
County Tournament games take precedence over league and independent games.
Banners, balloons, etc. are not permitted at tournament sites.
Admission to all games will be: (beginning with the Round of 16)
Adults: $5.00
Students: $3.00
Senior Citizens: $3.00
All-County Selection:
The All-County selection meeting is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, June 4th at River Dell High School.
Statistics will be submitted electronically as stated in the “All County Softball Rules for All County Selection
2017” document which is included in this packet. The selection meeting will begin promptly at 10:00 AM.
All-league selection meetings must take place at least 3 days prior to this date for athletes to be eligible for
All County Honors. Conferences must rank their players for All County nominations (the “PUSH LIST”).
All-County Selection Committee:
Conferences will be allowed to select their reps at/before the combined NJIC/Big North pre-season
meeting, as per the following rules:
- Big North 3 reps, NJIC 3 reps, and last season’s county champion coach (automatic selection)
o 2016 Champion: Diana Fasano, IHA
- Reps will have a term limit of 2 consecutive years on the committee, followed by at least one year
off the committee.
- 1 Big North rep and 1 NJIC rep from last year will be allowed to remain for 2017 (they will be
replaced in 2018, as per the rule above). At least two new reps from each conference need to be
selected for 2017. In the event that a new rep is not available, a rep can serve longer than a 2-year
term.
- Two reps from the same division may not be on the committee (County Champion rep
excepted).
- The County Champion rep is a committee member of the All-County Selection committee in
their championship season, and also a seeding committee member for the following season’s
tournament.
- One alternate from each conference will be selected, in the event that a previously selected rep
wins the County Championship.
First Team All-County teams will be selected according to the new All County Softball Rules for All County
Selection 2017 document.
