Student Commitment Agreement
Co‑operative education offers significant opportunities for learning in a workplace/community setting.
The experience will support you with
• developing and applying employability skills
• understanding career pathways and how they
relate to your skills, abilities, interests, and
• understanding the changing workplace and
learning styles
knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for success
Co‑operative education is a highly visible course. Students must recognize how their conduct and commitment
in the community/work placement not only reflects on them, but also impacts co‑operative education, their
school, and school board.
The student must make the following commitment to the school:
• assume responsibility for academic achievement
• keep regular attendance at school; course
outcomes can only be met through attendance and
• become informed about community-based learning
participation
and the outcomes
•
not engage in any objectionable, disruptive, or
• complete all pre-placement requirements
illegal behaviour
• complete required assessments including weekly logs,
• follow the school board’s policy regarding student
journals and portfolios

Community hosts are generous in providing opportunities and offering students their time and expertise.
Community hosts expect students to enter placements with a willingness to learn, strong commitment, and
positive attitude.
The student must make the following commitment to the community host:
• complete the required number of work hours by the
due date
• maintain regular contact with the co‑op teacher
• ensure their part-time employment, if applicable, will
not interfere with the completion of co‑operative
education hours
• comply with teacher directives involving insurance
regulations about operating company equipment
and vehicles
• participate fully in the placement by showing interest,
asking questions, and having a positive attitude
• respect the policies of the placement business/
organization
• conduct yourself as a responsible employee in all aspects
including confidentiality, honesty, and safety
• keep regular attendance at the placement
• notify the employer and teacher in advance if you need
to be absent
• report any injuries that occur during the placement
immediately to your supervisor and teacher
• express concerns related to the placement to
your immediate supervisor and teacher
