Have you eaten lunch? Belum. Have
you ever been to the Eiffel Tower?
Belum. It creates a sense of
expectancy and hopeful anticipation,
which very much describes our
present season of life. We
have completed five out of the
required eleven months of
Bahasa Indonesia language study on
the island of Java and are “not yet”
sufficiently fluent. We do “not yet”
have a solid grasp of the culture in
order to build strong, meaningful
relationships. We have “not yet”
transitioned to our full-time ministry
of utilizing aviation to serve isolated
people on the island of Borneo.
At the same time, we are also very
much encouraged to look back over the
past five months and see so much
progress in the midst of what often
seems like an impossibly long and
arduous process. “Sedikit-sedikit, lamalama, menjadi bukit,” is an Indonesian
saying that basically means, “Little by
little, over a long time, a hill comes
into being.” So we celebrate the
small victories: understanding
the majority of a sermon;
holding a “normal”
conversation for more than ten
minutes; making a doctor appointment
over the phone; and so forth. There
have been some tough days, no
question. But those are the days God’s
faithfulness is all the more evident. He
brought us here and He is carrying us
through, one day, one step at a time.

earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
