* Items are accepted at the discounted rate listed only when market conditions support the recycling of the material. The Director of
Public Works will determine applicability of the discounted rate with 30 days advance notice, otherwise refuse rates apply. Check
fee schedule on website at www.santacruzcountyrecycles.org or call 454-5154 to get rate currently in effect.

CLEAN SORTED WOOD WASTE & YARDWASTE: No
refuse, dirt, treated or painted lumber, poison oak, pampas
grass, bamboo, yucca, palm, root balls or materials over 8
feet in length or 4 feet in diameter. Bed lengths up to 10 feet
charged by cubic yard for stable waste ($13 per cubic yard).

windows, and rigid plastic. Subject to recycling market

You will be asked a number of questions when you arrive at the scale house:
 Where is the load from? We need the physical address.
 What is in the load? To properly charge you we need to know what materials are in the load.
 Have you been to the recycling center? You are required to recycle all free recyclable materials before
coming to the scale house, so go there first. Pack your load so you can remove the recyclables first.
 Do you have any TV’s, tires, mattresses, appliances, hazardous waste, or recyclable materials in your
load? Additional fees apply to these materials or they are banned from disposal in the landfill.

□ All refuse disposal loads include a $1.40 per ton CA Integrated Waste Management Fee.
□ All vehicles will be charged per cubic yard (CY) when scale/computer is inoperable: Loose Refuse -$20.00/CY;
Compacted Refuse -$38.00/CY; Special Handle Waste -$30.00/CY; Wood waste/Yard waste -$13.00/CY.
□ Higher unit rate applies to mixed loads and contaminated wood waste loads.
□ NO discount is given for airspace.
□ Senior Citizen (60 or above) discount rate is $2.00 per load of self-hauled residential material.

information on commercial hazardous waste disposal.
All incoming commercial, industrial and residential waste loads will be periodically inspected for hazardous and
unacceptable wastes. Commercial or industrial loads found containing hazardous wastes will be turned away and all
incident information will be turned over to the County Environmental Health Department for further action.
□ All dead animals must be double-bagged prior to disposal.
□ Special Handle rate will be applied to any load of wood waste containing dirt, refuse, or wood waste
over 8 feet in length or 4 feet in diameter, or any other non-acceptable materials outlined in the Wood waste and Yard
waste acceptance policy.
BEN LOMOND TRANSFER STATION WASTE ACCEPTANCE INFORMATION
□ NO scrap metal, pipe, lumber, wood waste/yard waste, stumps, root balls or logs exceeding 6 feet in length or 8 inches
in diameter will be accepted inside the Transfer Station.
□ NO dirt, rocks, sand, or base rock materials will be accepted at the Transfer Station.
□ Construction, demolition debris, concrete, brick and asphalt are accepted at the Transfer Station, but must be hand
□
unloaded to prevent floor damage. No dump beds allowed in building for these materials. Customers limited to 1 cubic
yard per trip.
Large loads and oversized wood waste/yard waste, construction/demolition debris, dirt, concrete, rocks, sand, brick
and asphalt can be taken to the Buena Vista Sanitary Landfill. Some of these materials are accepted at discounted
rates, if properly sorted.

Small Quantity Generator: State and Federal hazardous waste laws
limit the use of household hazardous waste collection programs to
households and those businesses that generate less than 100
kilograms (about 27 gallons or 220 lbs.) of hazardous waste per
month and less than 1 kg of extremely hazardous waste per month.
(40 cfr 261.5 & CA Health & Safety Code 25218-25218.12).
Businesses generating hazardous waste in excess of these
regulatory limits may not use these facilities. Large generators
should contact County Environmental Health for assistance at
454-2022.
No charge for PaintCare products except processing and labor
