Dear Pinecrest Families,
Welcome back to a new school year, one that we hope will bring abundant learning and positive memories. Pinecrest continues to be a special
place. We are a family of learners who care for one another. We value
respect for ourselves, others and the world around us. We also
greatly value active participation. This means that we support each other
in all we do. We work hard and embrace each task with persistent determination.
Welcome also, to the many new students and their families who have
come to us this year as well as several new staff members. We are very
pleased to welcome back Mrs. Katherine Preston to our staff. Mrs. Preston will be teaching a grade 2/3 class this year. As well, we are delighted
to welcome Mrs. Jenna Wiese. Mrs. Wiese will also be teaching a grade
2/3 class. Another recent addition to our teaching staff is Mrs. Michelle
McGrath, who will be teaching grade one. An increase in our student
population has created the need for another classroom. We are excited to
welcome Mrs. McGrath to Pinecrest.
Returning Pinecrest staff are: Mrs. Angie Doherty, (Kindergarten), Mrs.
Brenda Geddert (Kindergarten), Mrs. Plessa Walden (Grade 1), Mrs.
Gretel Griffin, (Grade 1/2), Ms. Heather Kennedy, (Grade 3), Mrs. Lisa
Storrie, (Grade 4/5), Mr. Bill Williams, (Grade 4/5).
Let’s have an awesome year of learning at Pinecrest, everyone!

Dear Parents:
Re: Fair Notice
The Campbell River School Board is committed to providing safe learning environments for all students,
staff, school visitors and community members. When a student behaves inappropriately, principals use progressive discipline to help a student take responsibility for their actions, change their behavior, and learn
from their mistakes.
As a school district, we have been involved in intensive safety training with our many of our community
partners and as result have developed a community threat assessment protocol. This protocol is used in all
situations in which students may be posing a threat to themselves or others.
This letter is to inform you that we, as a school district, have a procedure that requires principals to complete
a “threat assess-ment” in all cases of students making significant threats to harm themselves or others. The
purpose of the assessment is to deter-mine how best to support high-risk students so that their behaviour
does not become hurtful or violent. If your child comes home to tell you that a student has behaved in a
threatening way at school, please be assured that your principal will be taking measures to deal with the situation in a positive and proactive manner. If your principal invites you to a meeting to discuss safety concerns about your own child, please be assured that procedures are being followed and that the goal is safety,
not punishment. If you are unavailable, or choose not to provide consent, but a concern for safety still exists
due to threating behavior, the threat assessment may still proceed. Personal information shared through this
process will respect and balance each individual’s right to privacy with the need to ensure the safety of all.
This letter is intended to serve our community with fair notice that we, as a school community, will not accept “no response” to a serious threat. Our goal is to respond to all threats in a professional manner that provides for a healthy and caring learning environment.
We are proud to be able to provide this level of support to our school communities and are most fortunate to
have our community partners at our side.
Sincerely,
Tracy Kennedy
