I hope everyone’s new year is going great. I know for me it is. 2017 looks bright to me! We have given the clubs their supplies that
committed to a number for the Teeny Tears service project. Thank you! If you or your club have not committed to a number for the
service project and you would like to join us, we still have a lot of supplies that we would be happy to share. Just let us know.
Please try to have your club’s hats done before Saturday, April 1st so we can send them in during the week of service on April 9-16,
2017. On behalf of my whole team, we thank you so much for putting in your time and service. It really means a lot.
JD applications were due January 31st so keep an eye out for when the JD list goes out and we start planning the 2017 4-H camp. I am
sure it will be amazing whatever the theme is.
This month we have another fun teen challenge planned and it involves food and cooking so plan on being at the extension office
Tuesday, February 14th at 6:00 p.m.
The Communication Contest is also coming up this month on Monday, February 6th and that is so much fun. For anyone who wants to
try out public speaking but didn’t get the chance to register this year, come and watch a few kids give their speeches. Anyone who
participates in the prepared speaking or interview contest and is 13 years old or older has an opportunity to qualify for Montana State
Congress. I would recommend everyone try to go to Congress if they are old enough.
Have a good month 4-Hers. I hope to see you at some of our events coming up this month.

Montana Horse Helmet Policy
Please note the statewide 4-H helmet policy which is in effect in Cascade County. “A certified equestrian helmet with safety
harness fastened is required in over fence classes and speed events at shows and any practice sessions (clinics, open riding).
In addition, participants in the 4-H horse project are required to attend a helmet education workshop and/or view the video
‘Every Time, Every Ride’ once as a junior 4-H member (age 9-13) and once as a senior 4-H member (14 & over).”
The Montana 4-H Center for Youth Development encourages the use of ASTM certified/SEI approved safety helmets for all
equine events. Helmet use is encouraged in all 4-H horse activities any time a 4-H member is around a horse. Be sure you
sign the 2017 Helmet Policy/Horse Risk Form when enrolling online.
4-H Congress
Would you like to go to the Montana 4-H Congress in Horse or Livestock judging? If yes, please contact the Extension
Office at 454-6980 to be included in emails regarding upcoming livestock judging competitions.
If you wish to qualify for Congress on the Horse or Livestock judging teams, you must have attended at least two judging
events. If you attend more, we will use only the top two scores. Livestock contests include KMON (January), State Fair
(July) and a few local opportunities.
