Visit the library’s OverDrive collection at ebooks.ocln.org What You Need: Valid Quincy library card OverDrive app or Freading app Getting Started: OverDrive App (For help with the Freading app, go to page 2) 1. Download and install the OverDrive app from Amazon.com Search & Download eBooks 2. Using the Kindle Fire web browser, go to thomascranelibrary.freading.com 3. Login with your library card barcode number and PIN 4. Search or browse for an eBook you want to read You can use the menu at the top to browse Top Downloads, New Arrivals or Categories, or you can search by title or author 5. Tap the cover of the book you want to read The blue circle in the upper left hand of the cover indicates token “price” 6. Tap Download 7. If prompted, select “OverDrive Media Console” as the program authorized to open the eBook. Otherwise, the program will open automatically once the download is complete. Returning a Title Checked out items do not have to be returned; they expire after the 2-week loan period. To remove an expired title from your Kindle Fire, locate it in the “Bookshelf” of the OverDrive app, and press and hold the title. Select “Delete” from the menu options that appear. Renewing a Title Titles can be renewed for one 2-week period by going to thomascranelibrary.freading.com and clicking Download. Most renewals are free. All Quincy library card holders get 5 tokens per week; unused tokens roll over for 4 weeks. Getting Started: Freading App 2 It takes a few extra steps to get the Freading app on the Kindle Fire, but once it is set up, it is easy to use. (Please note: on some versions of the Kindle Fire, users are warned that loading applications this way is less private and there is a risk of “unexpected behavior.”) 1. Go to settings on your Kindle Fire (it is the bicycle gear icon at the top) and go to “device.” Turn on the switch for allowing unknown applications. 2. Go to the browser on your Kindle Fire and type in m.getjar.com. 3. You may be prompted to install the GetJar app. Tap “download” if you are prompted. If not, search for “getjar” on this site 4. After you find the GetJar app, tap to download it to your Kindle Fire. 5. A little number icon will appear in a circle next to the name of the Kindle when the download is complete. Tap the number and follow the instructions to install the app. 6. Tap the back arrow on the screen to go back and browse the GetJar store. 7. Search for and download the Freading app. 8. As above, a number icon will appear by the name of the device to indicate the download is complete. Tap the number to find the file to install. 9. The Freading app will show up on the home page of your Kindle Fire. The first time you turn the Kindle off after the install, you may need to press the sync/refresh button.
