H SEASON’S GREETINGS H
’Tis the season to enjoy holiday celebrations and share special moments with friends
and loved ones. All of us on staff wish to thank each of our residents for making our
community your home. May peace, joy, hope, and happiness be yours during this
wonderful holiday season! Holiday office hours: • December 24, hours to be announced
• December 25, closed • December 31, hours to be announced.
" HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE '
Donate by December 16 • in the Office
Hunger never takes a holiday, so we’re collecting food for those less fortunate. Please
bring non-perishable food items to the office. You can make a difference in the lives of
those who need our help the most. Thanks for your support!
HOLIDAY COOKIE & RECIPE EXCHANGE 0
December 15 • 5–6 p.m. • in the Office
We’re hosting a Holiday Cookie and Recipe Exchange for all of our residents. Make
four batches of your favorite homemade cookies to exchange with your friends and
neighbors. Be sure to bring copies of the recipe (or you are welcome to make copies
in the office) so that everyone can recreate their new-found favorites. Everyone is
welcome, and lemonade will be provided. Mmmmm!
RENT REMINDER
Bah! Humbug! You don’t have to be old Scrooge to avoid late fees. Simply pay your
rent on time. Rent is always due on the first of every month. If the office is closed for a
holiday, we will still be checking the rent drop box. Any rent payments past due will be
charged late fees. For proper credit, make sure your unit number is clearly indicated.
x HOLIDAY DECORATING CONTEST x
Judging on December 22
It’s time for our Holiday Decorating Contest! Deck the halls with twinkling lights and
sparkling ornaments by turning your patio or balcony into a holiday masterpiece. If
your display dazzles our judges, you’ll win a great prize!
Reindeer Games
E
ver wonder where Santa’s reindeer hang out when
they’re not flying the jolly old man in red around the
world to deliver presents? Visit the Grand Canyon Deer
Farm Petting Zoo, located 25 miles west of Flagstaff off
I40 in northern Arizona, and meet three of them—Comet,
Cupid, and Vixen, along with a sleigh full of their favorite
forest friends.
If you’d love to get up close and personal with a menagerie
of cute, furry wildlife creatures, then the Deer Farm is
for you. Mo, the cockatoo, and Scarlet, the lilac-crowned
Amazon parrot, will talk your ear off in the farm store. Once
on the grounds, you’ll walk among 80 or so fallow and sika
deer. Unlike deer in the wild, these guys aren’t at all shy
about coming up to you for food and a friendly touch. Ignore
them, and they may tug on your clothes or camera strap for
attention.
The Deer Farm is also home to many other amazing
animals that you can learn about and interact with. There’s
Gracie, the silly kissing camel; Ginger and Maryann, the
eight-year old bison; Hope, the albino wallaby, and three
of her buds, Dundee, Bindi, and Chloe. If you love babies,
you’ll meet the two Patagonian cavies and the five new
baby coatimundi. It’s a full house with Stormy the elk and
Gillie the mule deer plus llamas, potbellied pigs, marmosets,
goats, mini cattle, donkeys, and horses. Together, they
make for one big, happy family of farm fun.
For more information, call 928-635-4073, or go to

1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
Directions:
Grease a baking sheet and set aside.
In a 1-quart glass bowl, combine peanuts, sugar,

Arizona’s Fiesta of Fun
O
nce again, the national spotlight shines on
our fair state with a fabulous week of Fiesta
Bowl parties, parades, and the 44th Annual Vizio
Fiesta Bowl Classic.
This fiesta of fun kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday,
Dec. 27, with the 44th Annual Fiesta Bowl Parade.
Catch a prime spot or reserve premium seating
along the two-mile parade route through central
Phoenix. It’s one of the nation’s finest and largest
parades, with an array of colorful floats, marching
bands, helium balloons, and equestrian units.
Then, from noon to 4 p.m., catch Scottsdale’s
17th Annual Fiesta Bowl ArtWalk.
Wednesday, Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve), tens of thousands of fans will flock to the Great Lawn of
University of Phoenix Stadium. This ultimate pre-game tailgate party rocks from 8:30 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m. with pep rallies, university marching bands and cheerleaders, Jumbotrons
showing team highlights, interactive games, and some great food and beverages. Put on
your game face, pack up the party wagon, and take it over to the stadium for the 2 p.m.
kickoff as two of the NCAA’s football elites mix it up on the grassy gridiron of University of
Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. For more information, go to fiestabowl.org.
Winter Fairs and Festivals
Nothing brings out the sights and
sounds and aromas and tastes of
the holiday season more than
Arizona’s nationally-renowned
winter fairs and festivals.
Here are two of the biggest
and best in the state.
Tempe rolls out its “Fall
Festival of the Arts” in the
Mill Avenue District over
the weekend of Dec. 5–7,
from 10 a.m. to dusk. Check
out the 450+ national artists
and crafts people displaying
their works. In addition, there
will be an APS Kids Innovation
Station with hands-on activities,
music, street entertainment,
and great food. Check out
tempefestivalofthearts.com.
Tucson hosts its “Fourth Avenue
Winter Fair” Dec. 12–14, from
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It’s a cross
between a fine art show and a
carnival, with over 400 artists
plus two stages of music
and entertainment, street
performers, an art area for the
kids, and favorite festival foods.
