global supply networks in latin america 2008

Universidad de Montevideo
Global Supply Networks & Manufacturing Cultures
in Latin America – May 5 - 23, 2008
Montevideo, Uruguay
The smallest Hispanic country in South America,
Uruguay is bordered to the north by Brazil, to the
west by Argentina, to the south by the Rio Plata,
and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and has
nearly 500 kilometres of wide, sandy beaches.
Located on the Río de la Plata, Montevideo
(population 1.9 million) is lively and modern, yet
more like a large town than a city. The Old Town,
a small peninsula near the metropolitan port,
offers many examples of the country’s colonial
past. Not far from this modern city is an amazing
landscape of hilly meadows and rivers. Colonia
del Sacramento, a UNESCO World Heritage site,
and Punta del Este, the famous seaside resort,
are only a short drive or bus ride from the capital.
Uruguay is an inexpensive place in which to live
and study. Safety and health standards and
political stability are among the best in Latin
America.
