Instructional Strategies/Processing Opportunities and Structures 1. Activator: Graphic Organizer of the 5 characteristics of civilization. Label the corresponding parts of Mesopotamia. Have the students match the correct letter with the correct part of civilization. 2. PPT Review of the “T”- Paleolithic, Neolithic, or Mesopotamia? There will be pictures of the different advancements and technology for each era. Students on white boards will answer “P” “N” or “T”. 3. “S”- Cornell Notes read pg. 32 “Life in Sumerian Society” and have them take Cornell Notes. They need to also draw themselves a chart in their notes of the social rankings. Finally, have them summarize their findings in their RESPECT chart. 4. We are going to focus on CHANGE OVER TIME. 3. Take notes on the important elements of a CHANGE OVER TIME essay: a. analyze the process of change (aka: why did things change) b. cause and effect…because of this…this happened… c. what stayed the same and what changed 4. Review time- game, questions with whiteboards. Go through all of RESPECT except for the “C” 5. Homework: Study for Test c.
