Shaw A ve. Residents R iled
Over Flooded Conditions
A group of homeowners on
Shaw Ave , Islip, after repeated
requests , are beinnning to
wonder just what they must do in
order to have corrective
measures taken in order to
alleviate flooded conditions.
The homeowners say they have
been after the Town of Islip for 18
months requesting additional
catch basins on Shaw Ave.,
between
Roosevelt
and
Peckham, with no satisfaction.
A spokesman for the group said
that the area has become accident prone because of the
flooding in the summer and the
ice forms in the winter.
"Telephone calls have had no
effect," she said. "All we get are
promises."
Last winter, five pieces of
heavy equipment found its way to
Shaw Ave. and it was necessary
to put 11 men, three dump trucks,
one road scraper plus a pay
loader at the scene to break up
the ice.
"Nothing has been done to
correct the cause," she said.
"The cost of all of this work, plus
having men pump during the
summer months to empty the
pool and hose it to catch basins on
Peckham Ave. is ridiculous.
What the area needs is more
catch basins."
The spokesman said there are
about 35 children residing in the
area. They must go three blocks
out of their way during inclement
weather in order to bypass the
wa ter and get to their school bus.
""What do they want us to do,
send a delegation to town hall to
dramatize our point," she said.
Among the residents of the
area concerned with the lack of

UNWANTED POOL on Shaw ave. is shown in photo above. It's a
"skating rink" in the winter time. Residents of the area say it is a
hazard and that additional catch basins are necessary to remove it.
