This post is full time and is based at SWT headquarters in Taunton
This is a permanent appointment
Leading a team of 9 people (directly line managing four people)
Responsible for ensuring that the Trust’s annual Fundraising income remains at a level of £ 2.5 million
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive
Member of the SWT Strategic Leadership Team
Somerset Wildlife Trust (SWT) is a charity that exists to protect and enhance Somerset’s wildlife and natural
environment. It has 19,000 members, 75 nature reserves and 800 volunteers. It has three offices including its
headquarters in Taunton. It is a member of a network of 47 Trusts that collectively form The Wildlife Trusts.
SWT has a turnover of approximately £2.5 million, and an ambitious set of proposals for the conservation of the
environment under its Living Landscapes (and developing Living Seas) programmes. Like many charities, the Trust
faces a considerable challenge in raising the income necessary to sustain existing programmes and to support new
ones. As existing funding streams such as grant awarding bodies and charitable trusts become increasingly
competitive SWT needs to open new unrestricted income streams including commercial ones.
Equally important is the Trust’s communications function. SWT is well known locally, but currently only 4% of
Somerset’s population are members of the Trust. Moreover, its campaigns need to achieve greater profile if they
are to succeed.
This is a new post that has been created with a view to maximising the Trust’s chances of increasing its income and
public profile. It is a fantastic opportunity for a highly capable and motivated individual.
