ACKWORTH SURGE COMMENCES
Whilst Bugman Rangers and Thomoslavia Utd were slugging out a dull 0-0 draw where their respective SW252 formations allied to man-marking of midfielders pretty much cancelled the game out as an attacking option for
the fans, Ackworth hosted Aliens Utd and took full advantage of their title rivals dropping points with an
emphatic 3-0 home victory. It only took 7 minutes for the home fans to be celebrating the opening goal as Joe
fired home from the edge of the box. Carlos Stifez extended the Ackworth lead on 16 minutes with a fiercely
driven free-kick from 35 yards that Donegal got a hand too, but he could not keep out. Aliens Utd continued to
defend like demons with Manager McCarthy urging his side into every tackle, but this was a damage limitation
exercise and everyone knew it and on 61 minutes Acworth’s hard working target-man Grimsvotn forced an error
from Aliens sweeper Dredd and his swivel shot on the loose ball from 10 yards flew into the net to compete the
scoring. Onto the 2nd league game of the week and Acworth’s’ return trip to Aliens Utd results in another victory
this time 2-0 as a goal in each half secures another comprehensive victory and a 6-point haul in the league foe
Ackworth. Thomoslavia Utd got back to winning ways with an easy 4-0 home romp against Elterwater Rvrs,
with Man of the Match Dempsey scoring a brace of diving headers, not something you see very often. Bugman
Rangers left it until the 2nd half but their two goal away at Glasgow Celtic were well deserved and it could have
been many more.
DORE FINALLY LOSES TO GUESS WHO?
Uber-defensive for this one with Zoidberg playing
as a sweeper in a SW-252 formation and Nazarov
marking Ingesson well. In a game of few chances
Dore Utd winger Fritz settled it early on with a near
post volley on 10 minutes that squirmed under
Lebron in the Netherton Fc goal for what proved to
be the only and winning goal of the game. Honours
even between the two in the league, but Manager
Smith is just edging the managerial contest this
season with Manager Lawton.
nd
Manager Smith and 2 placed Netherton FC played
host to Division leaders Dore Utd and Manager
Lawton [f] in the first game of their league double
header this week. The home side’s commitment to
attack and their adoption of a 343 formation made
them the stronger attacking force in the game, even
with Dore Utd following Manager Lawton’s
instructions to the letter, man mark Corcheval and
Koryaksi and keeping bodies behind the ball
Netherton FC had the edge and it eventually told. It
took until the 66th minute for Corcheval to fire home
the opening goal through a scrum of players with Dore
Utd keeper Odense un-sighted. A fine passing move
on 77 minutes unzipped the Dore defence for a
second time and Travis side-footed home from 5
yards, the game was won and the Netherton faithful
celebrated. On 90 minutes Netherton forward
Anderton tried a speculative lob from 25 yards which
keeper Odense totally misjudged and the ball flew into
the net with the keeper just watching but the game
was won by then anyway. Seven days later and Dore
Utd returned the favour by hosting Netherton FC; you
could see from the demeanour of Manager Lawton
just how seriously he was taking the re-match,
especially on his home soil. The same approach from
Dore Utd with 352, and man-marking of key
Netherton m midfielders. Manager Smith went all

They had to ride their luck, and keeper McCah played
well above his status this week but with the creative
talents of Olsen and Iversen they always have a chance
of sneaking a goal or two, and that is exactly what they
did. First up a tricky away visit to Yorkshire Rams,
themselves re-building under new Manager McAulay and
focused on all-out attack at home. Cahill at sweeper
played a blinder defending McCahs goal and what got
past the sweeper the keeper pretty much dealt with. At
the other end, two creative shots by Hasan cannot be
stopped and Manager McAulay is left scratching his
head on how his side have lost this game 2-1! Up next
the much easier prospect of a home tie with bottom side
Fife Utd, unmanaged and unloved. Both teams play SW333 and once again it is the creative talents of FC
Klebanova that are the difference as two 1st half goals
from midfielder Dempsey put the home side well in
charge and Fife Utd can find no way back into the
match, six points is six points and FC Klebanova may
have a better season next time round if this improvement
continues.
VITAL HEATH WIN KEEPS FANS
HAPPY
It’s a rocky season for Manager Heath and Jackdaws
Castle as they adapt to life in the 3rd Division and a visit
from Manager Stevens [o/d] and his attack minded
Colour Athletic was a big challenge if Jackdaws
Castle were to consolidate this season in the 3rd
Division and not suffer relegation down into the ranks of
the cellar dwellers. Manager Stevens has had his own
problems this season, managing affairs of the heart are
easy compared to being Executive Manager of Temple
City and trying to bring on his beloved Colour Athletic.
So a crucial clash between the two as before the game
they are both too close to the relegation zone for
comfort and a win would help enormously. Manager
Heath takes a brave gamble and plays young
schoolboy keeper Rachmaniniv protected by two banks
of four and with Fernando and Yamaha marked well
limiting the Colour Athletic attack even further.
The gamble pays off handsomely for Manager Heath
with a 5-3 home win that was easier than the score line
suggests. Manager Stevens really has to consider
marking when away from home especially if he is going
to persevere with keeper Kiraly who is still looking like
he cannot touch his toes during the warm up with the
season 2/3rds complete! Jackdaws Castle’s overall
defensive strength allows both Van der Plunk and
Quintana to get forward and support the strikers and it
is Van der Plunk on 10 minutes that opens the scoring
with a fine flighted shot from 16 yards that Kiraly merely
flaps at. Basque doubles the lead for the Castle on 20
minutes with a far post header that the Colour Athletic
defence just did not see until it was too late. It is 3-1 at
half-time to Jackdaws Castle and the scoring for the
home side continues in the 2nd half with Clemente
scoring a brace of goals on 48 and 70 minutes to make
the game safe and give Manager Heath a fine home
win. Never say die, Colour Athletic kept coming
forward and late goals by Bolles and O’doors gave the
result some respectability, but the punters consensus
was that Jackdaws Castle will live to fight another day,
Colour Athletic may however be heading for the 4th
Division if the manager does not pull his finger[s] out ?
LEAGUE CUP SEMI-FINALS
LAWTON STAR FADES
Dore Utd 0-3 Ackworth
This was the Semi-Final the media had been waiting for,
Ackworth top of Division 1 seven points clear of their
rivals and the bookies favourites to be champions come
the end of the season and, Dore Utd four points clear in
the 2nd Division, certainly promoted and once again clear
favourites to go up as champions. So two experienced
Managers, two diamond formations, both managers tried
man marking key players, with Dore Utd through
Speckal clearly doing a better job in limiting the other
side’s key midfielders. Would the game be turned on a
moment of creative genius? The Dore Utd creative
players met a wall of Ackworth tacklers that pretty much
cancelled that approach out and the game came down to
the Ackworth pairing of Grimsvotn and Carlos Stifez as
the target man and winger made the difference today.
The Carlos Stifez crosses caused the Dore defence
problems all day with Grimsvotn powering home one
goal and nodding down to supporting Ackworth players
for two more. The score flatters Ackworth slightly but
Manager Moore had a better plan, was not as defensive
as Manager Lawton and got the positive result their play
deserved.
ELLIOTT MAKES HIS MARK
With the top three sides continuing their winning ways
and all of them amassing 6-point sessions this week in
the league the promotion race in Division 4 is for
intents and purposes over, Danetown FC, Northern
Town and Dumnonia City are promoted everyone else
is just playing games for practice purposes I am afraid.
However Manager Elliott at FC Klebanova just gave
them back to back wins in the league something the
long suffering fans have not seen for a long, long time.
HENKEL TOO WOUND UP
Nacional 0-2 Thomoslavia Utd
Two sides separated by one point in Division 1 in
Nacional and Thomoslavia Utd, both Managers know
each other and their style of play, both Managers put
their teams out in the usual diamond formation, both
attempt man-marking schemes, Manager Overli gets his
2
spot on with Odessa and Bo-Win marked well, whilst
Manager Thompson sees his scheme fail dismally. This
evens the game up even more and with chances at a
premium the game comes down to three mad minutes in
the 1st half. It was noticed that Nacional keeper Henkel
had been on the energy drinks and caffeine
supplements prior to the game and it came to a head
half an hour into the game with two bad decisions by the
Nacional keeper. On 35 minutes Thomoslavia Utd
were awarded a free-kick, Ortuga sent in a cross that
Henkel came for, six or seven players were in his way
and Porsche rose to head into the undefended net
whilst Henkel was wrestling with Dempsey and Hurn.
Three minutes later and Thomoslavia Utd broke quickly
from their penalty box and Paddy O’Riley releasing
Dempsey with a defence splitting cross in behind the
Nacional centre-backs. Henkel came for the ball and
raced out to tackle Demsey 20 yards out, the
Thomoslavia winger took the ball round the flailing
keeper and squared the ball into the box for the
supporting Paddy O’Riley to roll into the empty net and
it was 2-0 to Thomoslavia Utd. The game was a tight
affair in the 2nd half with few shots and both keepers
were never tested, Thomoslavia into the Final.
MANAGER OF THE MONTH
DIVISION ONE: Goes to Manager Moore of Ackworth
with three wins from three this week pulling away from
his league rivals.
DIVISION TWO: Goes to Manager Breznitz of Norwood
Eagles as he tries to keep pace with the teams above
him, I could equally have given this award to Manager
Demsey at Denmark Arsenal for their first league win
but the ‘Mad Prof’ just sneaks it!
DIVISION THREE: Goes to Manager Armstrong of FC
United Boys as their two wins this week keep them in
the promotion mix.
DIVISION FOUR: Goes to Manager Elliott of FC
Klebanova with back to back wins that show progress is
now being made.

TRANSFER TOPICS
A very quiet week on the transfer market with a bunch
of journeyman deals keeping the agents busy. Manager
Samson at Kirkdeen Utd picks up Star forward Wiltord
for a paltry 981k to supplement his attacking options for
at least the remainder of this season and next, and
Manager Breznitz acquires schoolboy keeper sensation
Vilkii for a meagre 803k, bargain indeed!

AUTOMATED TRANSFER PROGRAMS
NB Please note that from now onwards you CANNOT make stipulations about a deal going through or not, no `don't
sell if an APP becomes a special player, or only sell if he qualifies/ accepts his contract/ etc. This is not allowed, apart
from the star stipulation when you can say `do not sell if he is a star!' So managers have to show a little patience. Let
a player qualify and THEN make a deal to sell him!
And you MUST spell the names of the players included in any deal correctly. If you don't then the program
might refuse them and they don't go through, so be careful.
ALSO, be careful when doing deals etc. The program works on team order, which can cause problems. Best
idea is NOT to have 25 players in your squad at the start of a turn and do deals and sell to NL, cos if the
manager you are doing a deal with has a lower team number than yours, the program will say you have no
space in your squad, even though you are trying to sell players to the non-league. His orders will be
processed before yours!!

KICKABOUT SERVICES
MAILING - rather than sending SELFSEALING SSAE's, rather than getting
charged a £1 postage when you neglect to
send one in or if they don't arrive. Pay for allseason mailing and we provide the envelope,
the stamp, and the sticky label as well. No sweat. A
season costs £25.00 overseas, £15.00 UK, or pro
rataish if started during the season.
ALL EMAIL - if you have shomatch/ teampick
then you can elect not to have any
hardcopies sent to you at all as everything
can be done by email. Just let us know if you
wish to do this in future. Handy for those
abroad or in difficult postal areas. If you play in more
than one league, and paid for all season mailing it's
actually cheaper to buy shomatch and do it
this way.
NEW WEB-SITE
is now up and running,
www.Kickaboutonline.
co.uk to see the goodies
including a regular
TEAMPICK/ SHOMATCH/ MARKINFO - all the
info you need for these programs is at www.Teampick.co.uk
THE KICKABOUT COMMUNITY
EMAIL CHAT LIST - yes, you can subscribe to our email discussion group. There
is a list for general Kickabout topics, a list for each individual league, one for the
vulcano, one for teampick subscribers, even one for the weekend players. Learn
more about the game, talk to other players and the Gm. To subscribe to the main list
send a blank email to [email protected]. For others you do
the same except put the league, name with Ka- infront of subscribe. However, some
league lists have an ending in .co.uk instead of .com, so if one doesn't work then
please try the other!!
One thing to note about subscribing to the list, we post a regular schedule of where
every league is in the processing schedule, when it is sent out, when the latest
return-by-date is. This is of great help and if you have email you should really be
receiving this.
MARKING INFO - Tim Dodge has put together a clever little program that
allowss shomatch subscribers to gather all the international squads
together each session so that you can use that info to get marking info.
Shomatch/ teampick subscribers get a file sent out a file with all the int
squads listed and this program pulls them all together. Makes it easier
New 2014 version now available at

The Group of Yawn sees Dakin finishing rock
bottom!! More draws and PSV sneak into the
quarters, bet the big boys are hoping to DRAW
them!
Deciding game for runners-up spot goes in the
favour of homesters Eastwood Forest as they see
off Scaynes Hill at the death to clinch a place in
the quarters.

No real surprises here as the top two ease through
without much trouble
QUARTER-FINAL DRAW
Great win for holders Comp as they win at
Lutterworth to still top spot and a home quarterfinal tie, but it was a GK/SW balls-up that handed a
tight game to City for sure.

OCTOBER GALWAY WEEKEND 2015
So, finally we are going to the Emerald Isle for a weekend. All the way to galways to
descend on Seamus and hsi hostelry for the wekend that everybody has been wiating for.
Cost to Spellbinder for the weekend is £35 and the weekend will start after breakfast on
the Friday so you really need to be there on the Thursday night unless you have a short
distance to travel.
Weekend starts on Thursday 8th of October, and finishes on the evening of saturday the 10th.
Further details direct from us (already circulated on the internet)
First-takers are Niel Humphries, Ian Cranfield, Morten Jensen, Rob Lewis, Seamus
Mccrudden, Gerard Molloy, Jens Jensen & Colin Armstrong
STANDING ORDER PAYMENTS - you can also pay your turn fees by standing
order now. Contact us for details about how to do this and remember that this is
not only the way to spread your payments over the year rather than having to find
a lump sum at the start of every season, but it is also the way to avoid those
dreaded double turn fees. With SO payments this can’t happen.
NOVEMBER VIRTUAL WEEKEND
Another successful weekend, heartily
enjoyed by all I am told. Overall winner
was ANDY BAKER, congrats to him. Will
run another one for sure in November so
watch this space for details

SPECIALIST PLAYERS - these are the type of players that will often give you the edge on your opponents. By thee end of
a season a decent team is quite likely to be able to field a full team of level twelves, so you need something else to give you
an advantage and that is where specialist players come in. Each one gives a different type of advantage, some always
available, some only coming into play when certain conditions apply. Obviously they cost alot to purchase as they are very
effective players to have in a side, or you might be lucky enough to discover them, either though raining apprentices,
through your youth scheme and in the case of MF/G’s during the ageing process. They are still expensive though as to train
them up to effective levels costs many SPS, which you cannot sue for your other players.
A point her about all players whose type is followed by a ‘/’ is valid here. Remember that with these players not all of them
add levels to the other areas of your team (and when they do REMEMBER to add them won’t you). It’s only the Midfield
specialists that adds levels each and every time, an MF/G or DF/A never adds levels, or should I say, YOU NEVER add the
levels to your side!! The levels are added by the computer after it looks at your side and compares it with your opponent. It
might be that no levels are to be added, or it might be that all levels are, but whatever, it ISN’T YOU who adds them and for
the addition of levels purpose you treat them as normal players.
Also, remember that for certain players to be effective they might have to combine with another player (A FWT has to have
either a DF/A or WG in the side to have a chance of doing anything), certain conditions might have to be met (a WG has his
best effect against a team who play offside against you, or it might be a pure case of outfield levels (thus a DF/A really
come into it’s own if your DF is stronger than the opponents FW-line and can get forward and create shots on target).
One interesting specialist player is the FWS. This player type can play anywhere without loss of levels, so is in effect a UT
type player, but it also acts a a quasi-star as well. Not quite as effect as a Star because the lower the level that a FWS is,
the less effective he becomes at creating chances, though even a level 2 FWS might generate extra chances each game.
This is somewhat mitigated however, that when a chance becomes a shot on target the FWS is always more likely to score
as that is his job indeed. If you look at the table of highs scorers then you will invariably see that FWS’s appear in them in
inordinately large numbers. So the FWS is a very effective player perhaps under-rated by some of you. See how many
times his name appears in moments of brilliance and that is only when he creates a chance, the rest is invisible to you.
There is a very full description of each specialist player in the rulebook, and perhaps it stands re-reading very now and
again, lest we forget what they all do and how to get the best out of your team. Everything has to fit. How many of you have
decided to play positive and five-man attack and then in cluded a SW and MF/A only to find that both these players don’t
play to their full potential?? How many of you have a team full of Midfield specialists and find that there is no room for those
DF/A’s to speed up and down the flanks cos there is no room for them to play??. .
FADERS - these players should be considered as those common real-life types, the ìnjury-prone’ footballer. The darren
Anderton and Jon Woodward type of player, always beset by injury. In effect a fader doesn’t add experience every time he
plays, he loses it, so gradually, unless trained, his performance level will reduce. Obviously this raises a different set of
problems for the manager. Do I train him, where do I train him too, and when is his level going to reduce (galling indeed
when you rain him and the same session he loses that level). It’s even worse if he is a specialist who costs more levels to
rain in the first place. Still, faders often cost much less to buy and put into your team, and aren’t to be dismissed out of hand
like some do. Remember as well that once they get to level twelve they DO NO T fade any further as long as they don’t get
injured.
A problem arises though if they go star as fading will start again and when they do fade they will go to a level eleven as
losing a level has to reduce their performance level by one, and you can’t have a level eleven star thus the star status goes.
Training them to thirteen is always a good idea, but this might be an on-going things a they lose a level at various times
during the season! Better though to have a level 13 fading star than a level six ordinary player??
Another thing to remember about faders is that they ALWAYS stay faders. There are five levels of fader, from low fader to
?high really don’t want one of them’ type of fader. At the end of every season a fading star slips down from where he was to
the next worse level so over time a fading star is going to become worse and more difficult to handle. When he reaches the
bottom rung he stays there for the rest of his career, hugging the bench and taking his wages, so to speak, until you get rid
of him. Of course, every now and again there are different times in the auction that might well assuage these problems, but
that’s in the lap of the Gods isn’t it??.
RISERS - risers, of course, are the type of player that everybody wants. This type of player rises automatically
with games played in terms of performance levels. In effect he receives an enhanced experience game every
time he plays which means his level will rise much faster than through normal experience. As with faders there
are five separate levels of risers, Every season a riser will decrease one level from his starting level and when
he gets to the lowest level then the following season he will revert to a normal player and lose any rising status
that he had. It is important to remember this when buying a riser, even worse there is no way to know what
level a riser (or a fader) is currently at when you buy him. Through the auction you are given ‘some’ idea but
often it isn’t very clear.
Please realise with both risers and faders that the amount of added experience that a player gains or rises
each turn is random, modified by his age and fader/ riser level. Thus rising and fading will never be a fixed,
quantifiable amount, it is bound to vary. The number of moans about ‘my riser has stopped rising’, or “my fader
has started to fade twice as fast as earlier in the season’ are easily explained if you keep this in mind.
