BDAAA Plein Air Festival Prospectus
Artists from all over Wisconsin are invited to participate in this four day long outdoor plein air event.
Areas of interest are: The beautiful facades of our historic buildings, landscapes, Beaver Dam Lake area
and waterways and other points of interest.



Minimum of 95% of each painting must be created on-site. Small adjustments to fix forms or
color only, may be done off-site
Artists must be within Beaver Dam city limits to qualify. See attached map for suggested
locations and painting boundaries
If an artist is found using a digital image or an image on their easel, they will be disqualified for
judging
PAINTING PERIOD:
Wednesday, July 6th (8am) through Saturday, July 9th (8pm)
REGISTRATION: (Limit of 80 artists)



$40 and a completed registration form due before painting begins
Artists may participate in any or all days
Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. (See registration form for more details)

ALL PAINTING SURFACES MUST BE STAMPED PRIOR TO PAINTING.
MATERIALS:


Acceptable mediums include: Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, Pastels and Gouache
Acceptable surfaces include: Canvas, Paper and/or Board
SIZE REQUIREMENTS:
SMALL PAINTINGS:
Maximum material size (canvas, paper or board)= 144 square inches
Square inches= length x width
LARGE PAINTINGS:
Maximum material size (canvas, paper or board)= 400 square inches
Square inches= length x width
FRAME WIDTH:
144 sq.in.= 12”x12” canvas
Maximum of 4 ½ “
MAT WIDTH:
400 sq.in.= 20”x20” canvas
Maximum of 4”

The Seippel Homestead and Center for the Arts (same location as check-in):
Wednesday-Saturday: 8am-8pm
Information for after-hours drop-off will be given during check-in, if needed.






Each artist may submit two (2) large paintings and two (2) small paintings or the equivalent.
Depending upon the number of artists participating, there may be a possibility for an additional
painting to be submitted; in which case we will notify you during check-in
ALL paintings must be stamped by BDAAA, with the stamp visible on the back of each painting
Paintings must be appropriately framed and wired for hanging
Paintings must be signed as well as an information tag attached (available at drop-off)
In honoring the 175th Anniversary of Beaver Dam with our exhibit, we ask that you also label
with a location (ex. Swan Park or Corner of X and Y) so that viewers can easily identify
We reserve the right to refuse any paintings that are improperly framed including: wrapped
canvases, wet paint on edges or those without wire.
COMMISSIONS:
The Beaver Dam Area Arts Association (BDAAA) will retain a 35% commission on all sales.
Checks are mailed within two weeks of the end of the exhibit (July 29th) to the address provided on the
registration form.

First Place $100
Second Place $50
Non-Cash Merit Awards (3)
Viewer’s Choice Award: One painting voted by the public as best representation of Beaver Dam, will
be made into postcards to benefit The BDAAA’s awareness program
PICK-UP:
Paintings being submitted for judging but NOT the exhibit may be picked-up:
Sunday, July 10th from 4:00pm-6:00pm
Paintings being exhibited may be picked-up:
Saturday, July 23rd from 4:00pm-7:00pm or
Sunday, July 24th from 10:00am-2:00pm
AWARD CERMONY, EXHIBIT OPENING, SILENT AUCTION:
Sunday, July 10th from 1-4 pm
LIABILITY:
In participating, the artist agrees to bear all risk and expense for any loss, theft or damage to their
artwork or other personal property or injury to their person, regardless of cause.
It is the artist’s responsibility to insure their own artwork.
