Newsletter Issue 9 9th January 2015 Welcome back after the Christmas break! We are delighted to be able to inform you that on 1 st January 2015 we received notification from the Secretary of State that we are now officially Fairfield Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust (DRET). This is a really exciting time for our school, and we look forward to sharing with you all the new opportunities that being part of DRET will bring. In the coming weeks we will complete the re-branding process, with new signage and a new website which is currently ‘under construction’. This will include a Twitter feed and we will give you all the details as soon as it is up and running. We are really keen to improve our communication systems at Fairfield and would welcome your suggestions as to how we can do this. We currently issue a newsletter every other Friday, with time-sensitive notices or reminders being sent out via text message. If there are any other suggestions, please drop a note into the suggestions box in the office. FAIRFIELD ACADEMY UNIFORM January 20th Jungle Book performance to school February 13th School breaks up for Half Term 23rd return to school . Hopefully your child has now received their new uniform. Feedback about the uniform from pupils and parents has been very positive, and following some teething problems with the supplier, we now have a good supply of uniform, including cardigans which are available to order. Please remember that children are welcome to continue wearing their old uniform until it is either worn out or too small. Anyone still wishing to exchange sizes please do so at the school office. You will also be able to purchase additional uniform if required and order the cardigans which are priced at £10. The sweatshirts are all priced at £8.50 and the new polo shirts cost £6.50. As stated in the previous newsletter pupils are still able to wear a plain white shirt if you do not wish to purchase the new Academy polo ones. A new PE kit comprising of a House colour T-shirt and black shorts has also been issued to your child. This should be kept in school to be worn during their PE lessons, however, pupils are still able to wear their old green and yellow kit should you wish then the House T-shirt must be brought to school on the days we hold House events. PLEASE CAN YOU ENSURE YOUR CHILD`S NAME IS ON EACH ITEM OF CLOTHING. Anyone who writes a cheque to the school can you please ensure that you make them payable to `Fairfield Academy`. This is for everything, OOSC, Breakfasts, Top-ups, School visits. Thank you. OUT OF SCHOOL CLUB We are becoming increasingly busy now and have some dates in January already fully booked. Please ensure you complete a booking form for any dates you need, these are available at the club or in the office and we now have February forms available. We have been reluctantly having to decline new bookings so can we please ask if you do need to cancel a booking you have made, you do this as soon as you can so we are able to allocate the place to someone on the waiting list. It was mentioned at the Academy consultation that a holiday club would be useful for some parents. A survey will be going out shortly to all parents regarding this. Fairfield Academy REMINDER OF ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCE PROCEDURE Please take note that our school day begins at 8.45. The children need to be in the playground by this time as the doors to classes close at 8.50. Any child arriving after this time will be marked into school as late for that day which will affect their attendance record. Please can you ensure your child is here on time. Can we remind everyone that all absences must be reported to the school office on the morning that your child is absent from school and each morning until your child returns. This will prevent an unauthorised absence being recorded on their school record and a need for Education Welfare to become involved. If you have to book dentist/doctor/hospital appointments during school time please can we ask again that you avoid registration times to enable your child to obtain their mark for that session before leaving for the appointment. Thank you for your co-operation with this. SCHOOL MEALS May we remind you that school meals must be paid for in advance or on the day the meal is taken. Meals are provided by Cygnet catering who require payment at the end of each school week by us. With immediate effect we are unable to provide hot meals for pupils without prior payment.
