Discover your Call of the Wild a writing contest for students Write like Jack London and discover your call of the wild! Write an original short story about an animal, an adventure, or a quest. Winners receive prizes and publication on the Jack London Park website. Elementary School Students - Grade 4 to 5 Jack London loved animals and wrote many stories about them. Write a story about an animal, wild or tame, that also includes people. You may tell your story from the point of view of the animal or the person. It should have a problem that creates tension as well as an ending that can be happy or sad. Middle School Students - Grade 6 to 8 Jack London loved both travel and adventure. Many of his exciting experiences were used in the stories he wrote. Create a story about a traveler who faces challenges and conflicts in a foreign place or unfamiliar setting. High School Students - Grade 9 to 12 Jack London discovered the Valley of the Moon when he was searching for a refuge that would restore his health and sense of well-being. Write a story about an individual who is seeking a special place that provides solace and offers a new chance at life. Students must write an original story for submission. Each student may submit only one entry. 2. The submission must be typed, double-spaced, and under 2000 words. Submissions by 4th and 5th grade students may be hand written. The submission must be written in English. 3. Submissions must have the completed entry form stapled to the back. Student’s name MUST NOT appear on the actual submission. Keep a copy of your story since submissions will not be returned. 4. Each submission will be judged on originality of thought and creative use of language.
