Why does the bus seem to be late/early ? Par ents and guar dians often ask me why a bus stopped by
earlier than usual or was late in arriving. This question usually is asked when a young student (K to Grade 2)
is returned to school in the afternoon because no adult was out to meet the bus. (Epping School District policy requires that an adult be present at the bus stop to meet a bus student from grades K to 2 for safety
reasons.)
So why would a bus be early or late? Why can’t buses always arrive at the same time? Bus students are dismissed at 3:10 and they board buses that have arrived at school. If the buses arrive on time and there are no
hold ups in dismissal, it is possible for buses to actually begin leaving EES grounds at 3:20. It would be great
if this happened every day but everything has to go right in the office at the end of the day. A bus may be
held up at dismissal because there is a crying student or two who insists that his/her parent wanted them to
ride the bus that day even though the student is scheduled for an after school event such as Adventure Club.
The student’s bus waits while a phone call is made to confirm what the plan is. Buses may arrive at EES late
because they left the middle school and high school late or encountered a downed tree limb on the route.
These events cause buses to be late.
A bus can also arrive earlier than usual. Why? Take the example of the days when there are after school
activities such as Tuesday or Thursday. If a bunch of bus students take part in Adventure Club there will be
fewer students riding the buses so it takes less time to complete a bus route and students get dropped off
earlier.
So hopefully, you can see how there can be different times that a student is dropped off given all the factors
that can affect when a bus leaves school and how long it takes to complete its run. My advice to parents who
have to wait at a bus stop to meet their child is to get to the bus stop a few minutes earlier or later as needed.
THANKS !
Halloween Monster Mash is coming up……October 24…..6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Epping Elementar y
School PTO will be hosting a whole bunch of zombies, princesses, werewolves, ninjas, and other costumed
guests in two weeks. There will be a haunted hallway, arts and crafts, refreshments, DJs, and a costume parade. The Mash has been a family hit for years. Some reminders and some advice for those planning to attend. First, children must be accompanied by an adult. This is not a drop-off event. Second, the Mash is
open only to EES students and their younger siblings. Older siblings in middle school will not be admitted.
High school age siblings also will not be admitted. This rule is strictly enforced due to the limited space and
to prevent our young students from being intimidated by older (and larger) siblings.
PTO Needs Volunteers for the Halloween Monster Mash I am asking that par ents and guar dians who
plan to attend next Friday’s Monster Mash consider giving just 30 minutes of their time helping out with this
very popular event. Please remember events like these are only made possible by volunteer help. Contact
Debbie Deary, by email [email protected] or by phone 793 2887.
