"Happy New Year!" 2011 is a new start.
We can look back on 2010 and the
successful work of many hands: our
New Teachers' Breakfast, our
scholarships, our generous gift to
Delilah's Pt. Hope, and our fun, festive
Christmas Party. We now look forward
in 2011 to two special birthday parties,
new scholarship winners and our
hosting of the 2011 Spring State
Conference in Bremerton. The look
back at our success will fuel our energy
to accomplish the best in the future.
One hand can do some, two hands can
do more, many hands can do the
impossible.
The first celebrations are for birthdays,
DeLona Kent's (90th) and Lydia
Simonson's (100th). DeLona's will be
celebrated January 8th at the
Lighthouse at 12:00 and Lydia's will be
celebrated January 20th at her
retirement home at 3:00. These are
very special events for very special
ladies, and we want to show them how
much they mean to us and our lives.
We look forward to awarding our new
scholarships funded chiefly through the
New Teachers' Breakfast and Barnes
and Noble events.
Most of all, beginning with the January
BPW meeting we will begin to work in
earnest on the 2011 Spring Conference
in Bremerton. There are many areas to
cover and only with many hands will it
be the best ever. I am looking forward

Meeting Minutes
Wednesday November 10, 2010
Blondie’s Restaurant in Port Orchard
Attendance: 29
6:00 pm – Networking and ordering dinner.
6:20 – Meeting called to order by President Wilma Eads;
Sue Server led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. An
Inspiration was given by President Wilma Eads, followed
by Introduction of Members and our guests, including
State President Margaret Way.
GUEST SPEAKER: Delilah from 106 FM Radio
Delilah delighted us with stories from her very busy radio
career, beginning while she was still in high school. Born
in North Bend OR, she has lived in many places,
including her current home in Port Orchard. She also
runs the Cozy Kitchen in Port Orchard on Harrison, near
Amy’s on the Bay. She bought a 20-acre farm in Port
Orchard, commuted to Seattle for the first 2 years, then
remodeled her house to include a studio so she could
broadcast from home. She is now on 222 stations; and
is #1 in New York City where 4.5 million listen to her
program.
Delilah has 11 children, some her biological children
and some adopted; 6 are still at home. She also has 6
grandchildren.
But the main love of her life now is Point Hope in Africa
– where 86,000 people live on 20 acres with a life span
of 36 years. They had no fresh water source; got water
from a sewer across the road; had no toilets. Feces
piled 6 feet high around the camp; girls going out to the
bathroom at night were raped; and 7-year-olds had
STDs. Now the proceeds from her radio show fund the
program in Point Hope. Fresh water was installed and
the mortality rate dropped dramatically. 380 orphans are
fed 3 times a day. She visits personally and made her
th
16 trip recently. She adopted 3 children from there.
This November Delilah launched a clothing line,
designed to help young women have more self-respect;
100% of the profits goes to supports Point Hope. The
line is called “Hootchie Ware” in reference to the
Hootchie Girls from the 1930’s – strong independent
women who started working during the war and were
earning their own way for the first time. The goal is to
create independence among the people.

Tax deductible donations can be made, with checks
made out to Point Hope.
