A fundraising event or sponsored challenge is a great way to have fun and raise money. The key is
to keep it simple, not to spend too much and make sure that it is something that people will want
to do. You can organise an event to involve your colleagues, your family and friends, your local
pub or a club or society you may belong to. All you need are ideas (and we have plenty of those
for you!) and enthusiasm…here are some of those ideas…

After your SUCCESSFUL event…
Please ensure the money you raise is sent to DCH Charity as soon after your event as possible. When you send cheques
in (made payable to “Dorset County Hospital Charity”) please enclose a brief description of how you raised the money.
Don't forget to include your name and address details too!
It would be wonderful if you could also send in any photos or press cuttings about your event – we really love to hear how
it all went and to put your news on our website.
It is best not to send cash through the post. If you receive cash or cheques from people who have supported your fundraiser and they are payable to yourself, bank them and then write a cheque to “Dorset County Hospital Charity” for the full
amount. Following your fundraising event, remember to tell anyone that helped out or donated goods and services how
much money you were able to raise with their help!
Thank you for your support in raising funds to help provide the Hospital with those important extras. Unfortunately the Charity cannot
accept liability for any fundraising activity or event you undertake for the benefit of Dorset County Hospital Charity.

Thank you for considering taking on some fundraising in support of DCH Charity! We really
want this to be fun for you – and as uncomplicated as possible - so we’ve put together this
pack with some ideas, guidelines and suggested activities to help get you started…
There are plenty of things you can get sponsored for from giving up favourite things for a month to having your head
shaved! If you are feeling more adventurous why not consider the challenge of running a marathon or even abseiling
down a building?
Whatever you decide to do, people could sponsor you for your excellent efforts. We have prepared a sponsorship form
for you downloadable from our website to help you to do this.

Good planning is the key to
fundraising event success!
Plan and make LISTS…
What type of event will it be? Are you going to
organise a car wash, a black-tie evening or an
auction? Will your event be sponsored, will it have a
theme or are you simply going to run a competition?
Once you have decided on an event, then you need
to put an action plan together.
Ask yourself who will be responsible for the items
on this list …
There are more hints and tips to help guide you in
organising a successful event over the page...

How to get the most out of your event...
Here are some tips for you...
1. Entrance fee – place a minimum charge for your guests. They can donate more if they wish.
2. Sell as many tickets as possible before the event. Often people will buy tickets even if they don’t
necessarily attend the event.
3. Always have a raffle!
4. Remember you are trying to raise money – people who attend know this and will not expect free gifts.
5. It is a good idea to think about the space you have when organizing an event – especially if you are
hiring a venue!
Here are some ideas of other activities you may wish to run alongside your event to
boost your fundraising:
Working out a fundraising target...
Organising an event can be an expensive business, so you need to think about how much you can afford before you
start. Why not ask local businesses for sponsorship (remember it is much harder for sponsors to say no if you ask
them in person!)
Your income might include ticket fees, sponsorship, donations, raffles, auctions, advertising and sale of goods and
refreshments. Try and think of as many ways to raise money at the event to help increase your fundraising income.
What you expect to make at the event generally needs to be reasonably higher than your costs – we all want your
event to be worth your effort!
How much should you charge?
To work out your ticket price for any event, ask yourself the following questions and do the maths below (don’t
worry, it’s easy!)

How much money do you want to make? (That’s your NETT PROFIT)
What are your total expenses? (EXPENSES)
What is the total of your net profit plus expenses? (GROSS)
How many tickets can you sell for the event? (No. of TICKETS)
Example: You wish to raise £3,500 from the event. Your expenses are £1,500 and you aim to sell 200 tickets.
GROSS
= NET PROFIT + EXPENSES
= £5,000
Ticket price
= GROSS ÷ No. of TICKETS
= £5,000 ÷ 200 tickets
= £25 per ticket

The louder you can SHOUT about your event the bigger your support is likely to be. Consider
using posters and flyers (although you will need permission to put these up in public places), and don’t forget the local
press. Please state our registered charity number and name on any printed materials you use, including letters, tickets
and posters:
DORSET COUNTY HOSPITAL CHARITY— Charity No.1056479
We kindly ask that you state that activities are “In aid of Dorset County Hospital Charity” and not “on behalf of” as
slightly different regulations apply to fundraising organised or commissioned by the Charity itself.
How we can help you…
We would like to support you in every way possible. Please contact us if you
