A fundraising event or sponsored challenge is a great way to have fun and raise money. The key is to keep it simple, not to spend too much and make sure that it is something that people will want to do. You can organise an event to involve your colleagues, your family and friends, your local pub or a club or society you may belong to. All you need are ideas (and we have plenty of those for you!) and enthusiasm…here are some of those ideas… Aerobics/Fitness workout Darts competition Jazz evening Raffle Afternoon tea party Darts match Jelly eating competition Raft race Arabian night Dinner Jigsaw marathon Relay race Arm wrestling Disco Jogging Salsa night Craft stall/exhibition/fair Dog walking Juggling competition Secondhand Book Sale Assault course Drawing competition Jumble Sale Second-hand market Athletics event Dress down day Karaoke event Shaved eyebrows Auction Dress-up day Kick a goal competition Shoe shine Auction of promises Driving event Ladies Night with Slave Auction Silent auction Backward walk Drum marathon Leg wax Sponsored Head/Chest Shave Bad hair day Duck race Line-Dancing Evening Sponsored silence/walk/swim Badminton tournament Easter egg hunt Lunch Sports day Baked bean bath Egg and spoon race Lunchtime quiz Sunflower competition Ball or dance Egg eating competition Magic show Supermarket trolley dash Barbecue Expedition Masked ball Swimming gala Barn Dance Face painting Match the pet to the owner Table top sale Battle of the bands Family fun day Medieval night Talent night Beard shave Fancy dress competition Mile of pennies Talent show Bed push race Fashion Show Mufti Day Teddy bears picnic Bingo Five-a-side tournament Murder mystery Ten pin bowling Book sale Flower-arranging show/competition Music concert Theme night Bring a pound to work Football tournament Musical chairs Three legged race Bring and buy sale French evening Name the baby competition Tombola Bungee jump Fun run Nature Walk Toy sale Cabaret night Gala evening Nearly-new sale Trampoline marathon Cake Sale Garage Sale New Year’s resolution Treasure Hunt Car boot sale Garden party Non-uniform day Tug of War Car wash Gardens open day Obstacle Race Unwanted present sale Caribbean night Golf day Odd jobs day Valentine’s day party Carol concert Guess the name of the doll/bear Open garden Variety show Cheese and wine Guess the number of sweets in a jar Opera night Village fete Clay Pigeon Shoot Guess the weight of eg: the ham Pantomine Volleyball competition Coffee morning Halloween party Photography competition Wine tasting evening Computer games marathon Hopsital Hats Day Play X Marks the spot Cookie Buffet Household sale Pram race X-factor evening Xmas Carols and Mince Pies Craft fair Iceskating Pub games night Crazy golf competition Indoor games evening Pub quiz night Xmas evening Cricket match International evening Quiz and Curry night Xmas hamper sale Curry night International Food Day Quiz night Yoga Dance-a-thon Italian night Race night Zany clothes day Races Zombie Party After your SUCCESSFUL event… Please ensure the money you raise is sent to DCH Charity as soon after your event as possible. When you send cheques in (made payable to “Dorset County Hospital Charity”) please enclose a brief description of how you raised the money. Don't forget to include your name and address details too! It would be wonderful if you could also send in any photos or press cuttings about your event – we really love to hear how it all went and to put your news on our website. It is best not to send cash through the post. If you receive cash or cheques from people who have supported your fundraiser and they are payable to yourself, bank them and then write a cheque to “Dorset County Hospital Charity” for the full amount. Following your fundraising event, remember to tell anyone that helped out or donated goods and services how much money you were able to raise with their help! Thank you for your support in raising funds to help provide the Hospital with those important extras. Unfortunately the Charity cannot accept liability for any fundraising activity or event you undertake for the benefit of Dorset County Hospital Charity. Remember you are trying to raise money – people who attend know this and will not expect free gifts. 5. It is a good idea to think about the space you have when organizing an event – especially if you are hiring a venue! Here are some ideas of other activities you may wish to run alongside your event to boost your fundraising: Working out a fundraising target... Organising an event can be an expensive business, so you need to think about how much you can afford before you start. Why not ask local businesses for sponsorship (remember it is much harder for sponsors to say no if you ask them in person!) Your income might include ticket fees, sponsorship, donations, raffles, auctions, advertising and sale of goods and refreshments. Try and think of as many ways to raise money at the event to help increase your fundraising income. What you expect to make at the event generally needs to be reasonably higher than your costs – we all want your event to be worth your effort! How much should you charge? To work out your ticket price for any event, ask yourself the following questions and do the maths below (don’t worry, it’s easy!)
