Colonial Trades Webquest Due January 6, 2012 INTRODUCTION Do you know what a tanner is? It is not something you get from the sun! It’s an actual job from Colonial times. Today, your life is going to change! Thanks to modern technology, you have been transported back in time. You are an apprentice at a shop in Colonial America. But, your classmates back in the 21st century have no idea what you're up to. When you get back, you will need to provide them with clues to help them guess your occupation. While you are away, think about these questions: How is your occupation important to the people of Colonial America? Is this occupation still important today? Why or why not? How is this job done today? What is the same? What is different? TASK Your task is to research a colonial trade assigned to you by your teacher. Use the chart to help you gather information about your trade. Your assigned trade is: ___________________________________ You will create a “My Colonial Trade” book. Use the websites listed and chart provided to find and gather the information. THE PROCESS Research your assigned occupation using the resources provided. You will take notes (not copy sentences) on the chart provided. Read through each of the resources before assuming that you are done taking notes. Gather as much information as you can. Be sure to sketch pictures where appropriate so you don't forget what things look like. Remember to use complete sentences. Each page must be laid out as follows: Cover: Name of Trade, your name, date Page 1: Job Description Page 2: Tools Used Page 3: Supplies/Product Made Page 4: Is this trade still needed today? Each page should have an illustration. Illustrations may be drawings, pictures, or clip art. STEPS TO CREATE QUALITY WORK: • Work carefully and answer each section as best as you can. • Take pride in making your book. You will be sharing it with your classmates. • Ask for help if you get stuck on a question or have a problem. • Look at the WebQuest Rubric to make sure that you have completed all parts of the project. • Turn your book in on time! This project is due 1/6/2012. CONCLUSION There is one final task that you need to complete before you finish your apprenticeship. In a journal entry, write about your adventure. This is where I'd like you to return to those three important questions I asked you to think about while you were away. Be sure to answer them in a journal entry format. Here they are again just to remind you: How is your occupation important to the people of Colonial America? Is this occupation still important today? Why or why not? How is this job done today? What is the same? What is different? Attach this page to the back of your book.
