Wanda E. Brunstetter Biography
New York Times bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter’s inspirational romance
novels have captured the hearts of millions of readers, making her Amish Country’s Most
Beloved Storyteller. The author of nearly 70 books translated in four languages and with
more than 8 million copies sold, Brunstetter’s stories consistently earn spots on bestseller
lists including New York Times, Publishers Weekly, USA Today, CBA, ECPA and CBD. All
of Wanda’s novels are based on personal research intended to accurately portray the
Amish way of life.
Considered one of the founders of the Amish fiction genre, Brunstetter’s fascination
with the simple life began when she met her husband, Richard, who grew up in a Mennonite
church with close ties to his family’s Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. Meeting her new
Mennonite sisters-in-law caused the author to yearn for the simpler life. Brunstetter’s desire
to explore the Amish culture increased when she discovered that her great-great
grandparents were part of the Anabaptist faith. In their travels, she and her husband have
become close friends with many Amish people across America, and many of her books are
well-read and trusted by the Amish, who credit her for giving readers a deeper
understanding of the people and their customs.
When asked what draws her to these people and their gentle ways, Brunstetter will
tell readers her primary attraction to the Amish is their desire to live a devout Christian life
that strives to honor God, work hard and focus on family. Whenever she visits her Amish
friends, Brunstetter finds herself drawn to their peaceful lifestyle, sincerity and close family
ties, which is in stark contrast to the chaos and busyness that plagues so many modern
“Englishers.” Time and time again, Brunstetter loses her heart in the Amish life, and she
hopes her readers will, too.
When not writing, Brunstetter, who is also a
professional puppeteer and ventriloquist, enjoys
entertaining children and adults with Amish ventriloquist
figures and indulging in photography, gardening, birdwatching and beachcombing. Most of all, she cherishes
time spent visiting with her Amish friends, her husband,
their two grown children, six grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Brunstetter has outdone herself with this novel. Reading it is pure fun. Even though the

Interview Questions & Answers
Q. What are some common themes throughout your books?
A. The themes vary depending on the book, but you’ll generally find the common threads of
characters strengthening their faith, acceptance, hope for the future, strong family ties, and
practicing good Christian values.
Q. Some authors plot their books from beginning to end. Others have a general idea
of where a story is headed when they begin a book, and, as they write, the book
unfolds. What is your writing process?
A. In addition to the summary for my story, before I write the first draft of the book I usually
do a chapter-by-chapter outline. However, quite often I don’t stick strictly to the outline, as
new ideas will come to me as the story unfolds.
Q. What would you like your readers to know about your journey as a writer?
A. I would like them to know that before I begin writing a book, I ask God to give me the
words that would touch someone’s life and help them see that God is with them, no matter
how fearful or hopeless a situation might be.
Q. How does your faith play into your work?
A. My faith in God has been a huge part of my life since I was a teenager, so it’s only
natural that I have incorporated it into my writing. In addition to the scriptures I include in
each of my stories, the characters I create deal with situations that help to strengthen their
faith and make their relationships stronger. Having grown up in a dysfunctional home, I’m
able to incorporate my faith and how God helps us through the challenges of life within the
pages of my books.
Q. After more than sixty books—and eight million copies sold—can you imagine what
you would have done if you hadn’t chosen writing as a career?
A. No, I can’t imagine that, because I’ve wanted to write since I was a young child. Being
able to write fulfills me like no job I have ever had.

Barbour’s Wanda Brunstetter Tops 8 Million in Sales
Uhrichsville, OH—Readers across the country are becoming dedicated fans to
New York Times bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter’s books, purchasing one
million copies alone in each of the past two years. As “Amish Country’s Most Beloved
Storyteller” was socializing with her readers during her Fan-filled weekend in Amishcountry, Ohio, this past weekend, Barbour Publishing announced that her sales have
topped the 8 million mark.
That same weekend Wanda and Barbour were celebrating the news that sales of
her August novel, The Healing Quilt, sent this third in her series about an Amish couple
teaching quilting lessons in their home to the #1 slot on the ECPA Fiction list and to
placement on the Publishers Weekly list as well. Barbour also reports that sales of her
September release, Amish Friends Christmas Cookbook, are well on their way to
propelling the Yakima, Wash., author to the 9 million mark.
One of the reasons Wanda’s Amish books resonate so well with readers is her
relationships with the Plain People via family heritage and Amish friends across the
country. These close acquaintances, whom Wanda and her accomplished photographer
husband, Richard, visit frequently, enable her to portray the Amish lifestyle accurately,
affectionately and with a voice of authority.
During her tour to promote The Healing Quilt, Wanda visited the homes of
Amish friends while signing and speaking in Pennsylvania towns as well as in Ohio.
Some of her signings were scheduled in conjunction with performances of “HalfStitched – the Musical.” The play is based on Brunstetter’s 2012 novel, The HalfStitched Amish Quilting Club, the first of three in the series about her quilting
teachers, which also includes The Tattered Quilt (2013) and The Healing Quilt.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bestselling Author Wanda E. Brunstetter
Wraps New Amish Story in The Healing Quilt
Author to Appear In Cambridge, Medina and Sugarcreek
Uhrichsville, OH—Although stories about the Amish usually find the “Plain
People” focused on their work, they are as fun-loving as “Englishers,” says New York
Times bestselling author of Amish fiction Wanda E. Brunstetter, who will tour in Ohio
September 13-21.
Always eager to share her considerable knowledge of the Amish with readers,
the author wove this fact into THE HEALING QUILT. The August 2014 Shiloh Run
Press novel for Barbour Publishing finds an Amish couple teaching quilting lessons from
their home. To date the book has earned a berth on the distinguished Publishers
Weekly bestseller list for two weeks.
Brunstetter will sign THE HEALING QUILT in Cambridge, Medina and
Sugarcreek during her week-long swing through Ohio Amish country. Her tour will
conclude with a festive fan weekend at the Carlisle Inn in Sugarcreek.
Many of the author’s Ohio appearances have been scheduled in conjunction with
performances of “Half-Stitched, the Musical” at the Carlisle Inn in Sugarcreek. The play
is based on THE HALF-STITCHED AMISH QUILTING CLUB, Brunstetter’s 2012 novel
related to THE HEALING QUILT and playing to packed houses in Midwest cities for the
third year.
In THE HEALING QUILT, the third book about Brunstetter’s beloved Amish
newlyweds, Emma and Lamar Miller, “Amish Country’s Most Beloved Storyteller” has
the Millers move from Shipshewana, Ind., to Sarasota, Fla.
“The move allowed me to take my characters to the lovely beach area where my
husband and I recently bought a vacation home, a locale also popular with the Amish,”
said Brunstetter. “And, of course, it wouldn’t feel like home in my story if Emma didn’t
offer quilting classes there in Florida.”
Wounded and hurting people have a knack for finding their way to Emma’s
classes for “quilting therapy.” In THE HEALING QUILT readers will meet Jennifer, who
is pregnant with her first child and whose husband is unemployed; Mike, a workaholic
charter boat owner; Erika, a bitter, wheelchair-bound teen; Kim, a waitress eager for
adventure; Noreen, a recently retired widow struggling with her new role in life, and B.J.,
an artist facing a fatal illness. When Jan from an earlier story visits from Indiana,
romance blossoms, creating friction among some of the characters.
The beach setting also enabled the author of more than 60 books to illustrate
how the Florida Amish lifestyle differs from that in Indiana.
“The homes the Amish own or rent in their Sarasota community of Pinecraft have
electricity, which means some of them have a telephone inside their Florida homes,”
explained the author, who is known for the authenticity of her Amish stories. “As for
transportation, since horse and buggies are not allowed in Pinecraft, the Amish walk,
ride a bicycle, take a bus or hire a driver. In Indiana—and Ohio—the Amish meet for
church in various members’ homes, but in Pinecraft they convene in a very simple
church building.
“The ‘healing’ in the title of the book comes not from the actual wall hanging each
of the characters quilts but from God, in the way of emotional and spiritual development,
with the help of the various class members,” Brunstetter continued. “And when such
inner healing occurs, the various characters are able to let go of bitterness, anger, unforgiveness, insecurities and fear and move on with their lives.”
Brunstetter has more than seven million copies of her books sold to date, and her
novels have also earned berths on the New York Times list and those reflecting sales in
the Christian market, such as that compiled by the Christian Booksellers Association.
The winner of RT Book Reviews magazine’s 2013 Career Achievement Award for
Inspirational Fiction, the author and her husband split their residence between Sarasota,
Fla., and Yakima, Wash. When not writing, she enjoys visiting their Amish friends in
Ohio and other states across the country.

Wanda E. Brunstetter Launches Six-Part Amish Serial Novel
(YAKIMA, WA)—With a nod to literary heavyweights Charles Dickens and Anthony
Trollope, New York Times bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter has penned a sixpart serial novel for Barbour Books. Called The Discovery Saga, the first book,
Goodbye to Yesterday, hits bookshelves Feb. 5.
Brunstetter, an early founder of Amish fiction, has published more than 50 non-fiction,
fiction and children’s books, but this is her first serial.
“It was a very exciting way to write,” said Brunstetter, who’s sold more than six million
copies of her books. “The books are a bit shorter in length, and readers will get to
experience Meredith and Luke’s story each month from February through July. Each
book will leave the reader with a cliffhanger.”
The story follows Amish newlywed couple Meredith and Luke Stoltzfus. Luke has lost
his job, and the inevitable struggles and arguments follow.
“As in most marriages there are some bumpy roads,” said Brunstetter, who’s been
married nearly 50 years to her husband, Richard. “Finances can be one of the greatest
detriments to a marriage.”
Luke’s uncle offers him the chance to learn a new trade, so Luke makes plans for a
quick trip to his uncle’s place in Middlebury, Indiana, despite his wife’s reservations.
Along the way, Luke is accosted by a desperate drug addict on the run. When Luke
refuses to hand over his wallet, a violent encounter erupts. Back home, with a baby on
the way, Meredith is desperate to hear from her missing husband.
“This particular story takes place in Lancaster County, PA, a large Amish community,
which is about 50 miles from where my husband grew up. We have friends in that area
and have visited many, many times. It was fun to go back there in my story.”
Book 2, The Silence of Winter, publishes March 1, with The Hope of Spring, The
Pieces of Summer, A Revelation in Autumn and A Vow for Always publishing in
April, May, June and July, respectively.

Bestselling Washington Author Wanda E. Brunstetter
Takes a WOMAN OF COURAGE
To 19th Century Idaho
In First Quaker Novel
Author of 60+ Novels to Sign in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene April 4
Uhrichsville, OH —When most everyone can hop in a car, bus or subway and shop for
groceries, take the kids to baseball practice, or pick up the dry cleaning, it’s difficult to imagine
the hardships endured by the Quaker WOMAN OF COURAGE in New York Times bestselling
Washington author Wanda E. Brunstetter’s April novel.
Published in trade paperback and digital formats by Shiloh Run Press, a Barbour Books
imprint, WOMAN OF COURAGE (ISBN 978-1616260835) is a love story wrapped in the
arduous adventure of a determined young Quaker woman, who is responding to a calling. Her
journey takes readers from Amanda Pearson’s modest home in Dansville, New York, to a
primitive missionary outpost in 19th Century Oregon Country. Amanda’s faith—and a promise
she made to her dying father —sustain her as she faces long days in the saddle, the death of her
father and her guide, treacherous mountains, attacks by Indians and wild animals, as well as
heartache, injury and bone-chilling weather. But as a WOMAN OF COURAGE, Amanda
Pearson perseveres. She is determined to reach the settlement established by missionaries Henry
and Eliza Spaulding to minister to the Nez Perce Indians.
“I identified with Amanda’s pain and took the journey west in my mind as I wrote
WOMAN OF COURAGE,” says Brunstetter, a Yakima resident and key founder of the nowpopular Amish fiction genre with more than seven million copies of her books sold. “WOMAN
OF COURAGE is my first novel using a Quaker as a main character. My great-great-great
grandparents were part of the Dutch Quakers, and that is what made me think to include a
Quaker woman in this book.”
As for inspiration for the book itself, Brunstetter says, “When my husband was pastoring
a church in Troy, Idaho, several years, we discovered the nearby town of Lapwai. There we
found a historical museum with information about the Nez Perce Indians and Rev. Henry and
Eliza Spaulding, missionaries who brought education and the Christian faith to their tribe.”
According to Brunstetter, whose career spans more than 60 published books, Eliza
Spalding and another missionary, Mrs. Marcus Whitman, were the first white women to travel to
Oregon Country. “I believe they were able to accomplish what trail-hardened men couldn’t
because of their gentle spirits, love for the Indians, and of course, their devotion to God.”
Brunstetter will sign WOMAN OF COURAGE April 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in
Spokane’s Lifeway Christian Store, 9310 N. Division St., and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Coeur
d’Alene’s Sower Bible Bookstore, 1234 W. Appleway Ave. She will sign her new novel on April
5 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Lewiston, Idaho’s His Story Christian Bookstore, 1702 21st
St., Suite 113. For more information, check www.WandaBrunstetter.com and her Facebook
page.
Among Brunstetter’s honors is the Retailer’s Choice Award, and many of her books have
been Picks of the Week at CBD. Her 2012 novel, THE HALF-STITCHED AMISH QUILTING
CLUB, inspired “Half-Stitched – the Musical,” a play drawing packed houses for the second year
in several Midwest cities.
Brunstetter lives in Yakima with her husband, Richard, a talented photographer.

Amish Fiction Author Wanda Brunstetter
To Appear During Shipshewana Quilt Festival
Author’s Amish “Quilt of a Thousand Hands”
To Be Auctioned as Oaklawn Benefit
Uhrichsville, OH —The thousands of tourists who flock to Indiana for the
Shipshewana Quilt Festival June 25-29 will have the opportunity to meet popular New
York Times bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter. A founder of the popular Amish
fiction genre with more than seven million copies of her books sold, Brunstetter will sign
her latest novels and guest host at the benefit auction of her fan-produced collectible,
the “Quilt of a Thousand Hands.”
Brunstetter will appear on the opening day of the Festival at Yoder Department
Store, 300 S. Van Buren Street, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 25.
Among the books she will sign are The Tattered Quilt and The Half-Stitched Amish
Quilting Club. Set in Shipshewana, the novels revolve around an Amish couple who
teach quilting classes in their home to a diverse group of students. As the beginning
quilters learn to transform scraps of fabric into beauty, their fragmented lives begin to
take new shape with the helping hands of each other and the healing hand of God.
Following the Yoder signing, Brunstetter will cross the street to Shipshewana
Auction, 345 S. Van Buren Street, for the 1 p.m. benefit auction of her “Quilt of a
Thousand Hands.” The one-of-a-kind collectible quilt is the culmination of Brunstetter’s
call for quilters across the country to participate in a project to benefit Oaklawn

“I put out the call for squares last summer when The Tattered Quilt was
published,” the author said. “My generous readers donated more than 1,000 squares for
the cause, and a skilled Amish quilter I know in Shipshewana designed the quilt and
stitched all the lovely pieces together by hand. The end result is an exquisite work of art,
a true collector’s piece.”
Brunstetter noted that the 96” x 116” quilt will fit a queen- or king-sized bed.
Brunstetter will arrive in Shipshewana before the Festival opens to sign books at
the Blue Gate Theatre, 195 Van Buren Street, before two live performances of “HalfStitched, the Musical.” The production is based on Brunstetter’s The Half-Stitched
Amish Quilting Club. Those signings will be from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Monday, June
23 from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24. More information on the
performances is available on www.riegsecker.com/shipshewana/bluegatetheater.
Also before the Festival begins, the author will speak and sign books during two
dinners in Amish homes, one on Friday, June 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the
second on Monday, June 23, from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Ticket information is available
by calling Bridget Griffin, J. Farver's Christian Bookstore in Shipshewana, 260-7684339.
A resident of Yakima, Wash., Brunstetter is the author of more than 60 books.
She became fascinated with the Amish way of life when she first visited her husband,
Richard’s, Mennonite relatives. The Brunstetters have Amish friends in several States
and enjoy visiting them throughout the year.
Next on Brunstetter’s calendar are August signings in the Bird-in-Hand, Penn.,
area. Reservations are being taken now for her Fan-Filled Weekend, September 19-21,
