Around the school this week: Year R have had a lovely Easter week going on an Easter egg hunt, decorating eggs,
making chocolate baskets and writing Easter Bunny letters; as well as making Easter cards and baskets, Year 1
used their writing talents to write the Easter story. They have also been saying their “Goodbyes” to Mrs Davison;
Year 2 had a fraction Easter egg hunt, made Easter flower pots and wrote super non-chronological reports about
dragons; Year 3 enjoyed their Roman Day on Wednesday. The classroom was decorated and children were greeted
at the entrance with ‘slaves’ wafting big leaves. Everyone dressed as Romans, made mosaics, cooked Roman food
and ate a two-course Roman meal outside in the sunshine. What a great end to their topic!; Year 4 wrote some
powerfully persuasive posters about saving the rainforests (Ruby and Kianna’s came first in the judging) and
created very colourful Aboriginal-style dot paintings; Year 5 painted some beautiful watercolour Easter cards and
their Magic Box poems were amazing. They also had great fun designing contraptions to keep an egg from
breaking when dropped from a height; Year 6 have had an amazing week in Abernant. Please do have a look on
the school website for pictures of all they got up to this past week.
Dear Parents,
1. Entrepreneurial Club: Although there weren’t many entries of Easter gardens, the 4 that were entered were
terrific. William in Year 1 won the prize for Key Stage 1 and Holly won the prize for Key Stage 2. Thank you to all
those who took part in the first ever Easter egg hunt. Overall, the Club raised £185 over the term. Whilst not as
much as when Sarah ran the club, it’s still enough to buy another visualiser!
2. Weekly Doodlemaths champions: In first place this week is Year 4 Hugo, in second place is Year 6 Hattie (how is
this possible when she’s on residential?) and in third place is Year 3 Henry. Keep on Doodling over Easter and
don’t let the maths skills become rusty!
3. School band/flute lessons: Jeni Reid gave children a musical presentation this week to encourage those
interested in signing up to learn the flute and/or join the Band Club. Flute lessons will be taking place on
Monday afternoons, whilst Band Club will be on Monday after school. These lessons will begin Monday, 8th May.
A letter was sent home to interested children with more details but if you did not receive one, there are more
forms in the office.
4. FOBS dates for the diary: Chocolate Bingo Thursday 4th May 3.30-5.30pm. End of term mufti and disco Friday
26th May. (This mufti day is replacing the one previously mentioned on Fri 28th April). The next FOBS meeting
will be at 7.30pm on Tuesday, 16th May in school.
5. FOBS funds: Having now bought 2 new Smartboards (at the cost of £3200 each), FOBS wanted everyone to know
that their current bank balance is approximately £800, so there’s another £2400 to be raised to buy the next
whiteboard for Year 4.
6. Summer Fete: Plans are already being made for this year’s summer fete. FOBS would like to ask any parents,
grandparents, relatives, friends, etc. to have a think about the following:
 What could be donated for raffle prizes? One of the best raffle prize fund raisers we ever had was a
Mulberry handbag. Does anyone work/know someone in Dyson, local restaurants or spas, high-end clothing,
etc.? It would be fantastic to have lots of things on offer.
 Does anyone have any likes with outside agencies, clubs, etc., such as the rhythmic gymnasts who were in
last year, who might like to come to the fete to perform and advertise their services?
 Are there any musicians/bands out there who would like to perform live on the day?
 Does anyone have a pony that wouldn’t mind being ridden for a couple of hours?
 Can anyone fix the Dennis the Menace football goal?
7. End of day collecting children: When collecting children from teachers at the end of the day, can parents please
make contact, be it eye contact, a thumbs-up or a wave, to show that they are aware that their child is being
released into their care.
8. Easter holiday club: PH Sport is running a holiday club on the school premises over the Easter break. Leaflets
sent home today but the online link for booking is http://phcamps.co.uk/event/holiday-camps-bath-bathford/
9. Inset: A reminder that the first day of the summer term, Monday 24th April is a staff Inset day. We are all having
first aid training.
10. Donate the easy way: Join Easy Fundraising at https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/panel/ and/or The
Giving Machine at https://www.thegivingmachine.co.uk/ and nominate Bathford
Primary School as the cause you’d like to support. The sites then donate a
percentage of the amount spent shopping to school – and it won’t cost you a single
penny! These sites can also be used throughout the year, so it’s useful to download
their apps to remind you.
11. Banking details: If you would like to set up a regular donation to FOBS, the details you need to set up a
standing order or just to make a one-off donation are as follows : Account name – Friends of Bathford
Primary School, Account number – 24364363, Account sort code 52-21-30
Wishing you all a lovely Easter and a restful holiday,
Karen Sykes and the team at Bathford Primary
