Residents Poetry Book In recognition of World Poetry Day 21st March 2016 A summers Day in the Garden I was digging up the garden And what did I find? An earthworm, some snails and an ants nest The earthworm made a hole through the ants nest So the ants could come out and play And they all had a happy day. I was mowing the lawn And what did I find? Some toadstools, some weeds and some daisies With the daises, I created a chain And wore it round my neck For the rest of the day. I was walking round the pond And what did I find? Some goldfish, lily pads and a refreshing fountain. As a friendly robin was looking on And chirping a song. Written by the residents of The Four Seasons Winter comes and goes, Followed by the spring, And glorious summer follows, A leave has fallen from the trees. Written by Elsie Smith Season of mist and mellow fruitfulness The beginning of autumn starts You being to see the fruits ripen And fall from the trees Straight into our hearts Written by Anne Warwick In the Spring Spring is here and the sun is out but winters cold is still slightly about. Gone are the days Of frost and snow And now we are left with a summery glow. The flowers are blooming And the bees are in sight They have stretched out their wings and are ready for flight. Daffodils, daisies And tulips grow The garden looks different now without the snow! Written by the residents of The Flying fairies The fairies worked their magic It was a time reversal spell, how tragic! For some, but not for me As you will come to see. As time whirred by Before my very eyes I see the fairies come to me And they assist me to climb a tree. Up, up, up I go to the top When I hear a gigantic pop I turn around And fall to the ground. And lo and behold From out of my back These wings unfold. I fly to town To fetch the gold And after my mission was complete I did not want to use my feet! Written by the residents of Curly Hair I’ve got curly hair And it’s just not fair The way people call me a boy And always have to stare So one day I try to straighten it But what happened was…. I grew and afro!!! And another day I combed it all through To me horror, it all fell out And my curls randomly turned blue. And after that, I gave up I didn’t have a clue I will always have a curly hair And I’ll never know what to do!!! Written by the residents of The lady in the well There was an old lady Who lived by a well At one time she fell Down, down into the well. Written by the residents of Chinese New Year Here comes the Chinese dragon Dancing and breathing fire from his nose People all around are celebrating The coming of a new year. He stands up on his hind legs And lets out a majestic roar The crowd cheers And cries for more. Lots of children are waving and playing Underneath the colorful lanterns The stench of fire and smoke Sticking in your throat Making everybody choke Mothers looking after wailing babies Taken them home after the day’s festivities The sun sets on the end of a happy day But the new year has only just begun. Written by the residents of Dislike I dislike miserable people They should be happy all the time Like me, you see, I wear my smile As I tell them a catchy rhyme. I wish people would stop shouting I’m not in the army anymore I was for a while But left after the war I don’t like wars because They have guns and things go bang I still lie awake at night Hearing the weapons clang I sang to myself because I’m only a lamb you see And because it is me I’m afraid you won’t see The other side of me. I can make you rich, through and through!
