REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
In registering Childminders, we are governed by the Child Protection
(Guernsey) Law 1972 Part 3. In this Law, The Health & Social Care
Department are required to maintain a register of persons and premises
registered under the Child Protection Guernsey Law to monitor the premises
and the children in a day care setting.
Following registration routine visits will take place. The Early Year’s Team will
monitor registration requirements which mean checking up on the number of
children that the childminder is registered for, keeping in that given number
and that the requirements and recommendations made by the States Early
Years Team and the Fire Officer are still in force and being carried out. Also
in record keeping the Registered Childminders are keeping a register on all
children and an accident book, which is signed by parents.
Maximum number of children under 5 years
- 3 (includes own children)
Maximum number of children under 8 years – 6 (includes own children)
One baby under 1 year with the exception of twins.
Childminders are checked twice a year on a minimum basis.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR NEW CHILDMINDER.
The hours the Childminder works? Flexible on picking-up times?
Cost per hour/week? Retainer needed? Overtime Rates?
What training or experience do they have? Are they First Aid trained?
Are they insured? (Check Insurance.)
Costs for holidays/sickness/Bank holidays?
Any Pets? Are pets in the same area that the children will use?
Has outside play area? Park nearby?
Do they smoke?
Visits ie. Beach, park, Library etc?
Extra costs for food or snacks? Choice of food/snacks? Healthy Eating?
Other people who will be in the house?
Car available? Car seats provided?
Age of own children? Ages of Childminding children already there?
Does your, and other children seem happy and at ease?
Are there plenty of books and toys available? What is the condition like?
Are reasonable health and Safety precautions being taken?
Is there somewhere for the children to rest?
Are there references for you to read, especially from other Parents?
Does the Childminder attend Parent & Toddler groups? How often?
Does the Childminder meet with other Childminders on a regular basis?
Are activities such as painting, cutting & sticking etc taking place?
