Room 1O2 Ribbit Review ’s October 31 – November 4, 2016 Phonics Weekly Notes & Reminders Focus: I can spell words with the /ai/ and /ay/ pattern. We have practiced the long /a/ pattern with the silent “e” and now we will introduce two more ways to make the long a sound within words. We will NOT have a spelling test this week. The test on /ai-ay/ will be next Friday. • MONDAY – CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT DAY plane, shape, stain, train, clay, player, grapes, praise, waist, tray, spray • THURSDAY - PICTURE MAKE-UP DAY No school today. • TUESDAY – PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES No school today. • Harvest Party Hoorays! Grammar Focus: I can write the plural form of a word. We studied +s and +es to words (cats, witches). This week and next we will explore when to change the y to an I and +es or when to just +s. Just +s = day, play, monkey, toy, boy, trolley Change y to I = party, family, city, baby, bunny, cherry, spy Thank you to all of the parent volunteers! The party and activities were PERFECT! All of the kids had so much fun and really enjoyed the afternoon. I am working to get pictures of the party on our classroom website. Enjoy! This type of work will become a future option for center work during guided reading time. Focus: I can use clues to place value clues to figure out the Can you retell a summary of this story? Students will create a disguise for their turkey so the farmer won’t recognize him. Then, they will write a descriptive paragraph about their turkey’s disguise. What disguise did you choose? How did you use descriptive sentences to tell about his disguise? Eggs, Buckets, & Bullies Focus: I can discuss times when I need to show grit or perseverance. The students will write observations about 4 food items. Then we will do experiments to begin discussing the idea of mass and weight. What were the 4 food items? What properties did you use to describe them? Which food weighed more even though we had the same amounts in the small cup? What was unusual about that?
