Phonics
Weekly Notes & Reminders
Focus: I can spell words with the /ai/ and /ay/ pattern.
We have practiced the long /a/ pattern with the silent “e” and now
we will introduce two more ways to make the long a sound within
words. We will NOT have a spelling test this week. The test on /ai-ay/
will be next Friday.

Grammar
Focus: I can write the plural form of a word.
We studied +s and +es to words (cats, witches). This week and
next we will explore when to change the y to an I and +es or
when to just +s.
Just +s = day, play, monkey, toy, boy, trolley
Change y to I = party, family, city, baby, bunny, cherry, spy

party and activities were PERFECT! All of the
kids had so much fun and really enjoyed the
afternoon. I am working to get pictures of the

We will practice reading a story and then answering questions
about that story. This type of work will become a future option
for center work during guided reading time.

We will review what these words mean and when times arise in
school when we need to show perseverance and grit.

will finish up the targets and then begin reviewing. Our math test
will be on Monday, November 7 . It will cover:

Science/Social Studies
Focus: I can list properties of an object and explain if that
property affects weight.
The students will write observations about 4 food items. Then
we will do experiments to begin discussing the idea of mass and
weight.

amounts in the small cup? What was unusual about that?
