Jesus is willing. What about you?

Jesus is willing. What about you?
Mark 1:40-45
Imagine…
“When anyone has an infectious skin disease,
he must be brought to the priest. 10 The priest
is to examine him. and if there is a white
swelling in the skin that has turned the hair
white and if there is a raw flesh in the swelling,
11 it is a chronic skin disease and the priest
shall pronounce him unclean. He is not to put
him in isolation, because he is already unclean.”

Leviticus 13:9-11 (NIV)
Mark 1:40-45 (NASB)
And a leper came to Jesus, beseeching him,
and falling on his knees before Him, and
saying, “If You are willing, you can make me
clean.” 41 Moved with compassion, Jesus
stretched out His hand and touched him, and
said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”
42 Immediately, the leprosy left him, and he
was cleansed. 43 And He sternly warned him
and immediately sent him away, …

Mark 1:40-45 (NASB)
… and He said to him, “See that you say
nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to
the priest and offer for your cleansing what
Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
45 But he went out and began to proclaim it
freely, and to spread the news around, to such
an extent that Jesus was no longer able to
publicly enter a city, but stayed out in
unpopulated areas; and they were coming to
Him from everywhere.”

Jesus is willing. What about you?
The WAY of Jesus is marked by
Compassion (1:41)
Jesus is willing.
And he passed in front of Moses,
proclaiming, “The LORD, The LORD, the
compassionate and gracious God, slow to
anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,
maintaining love to thousands, and
forgiving wicked, rebellion and sin…
Exodus 34:6
The term, ‘moved with compassion’ or
(splanchnizomai) is used only in the Gospels. It
has the idea of a person having compassion to
the point of being moved in the inner parts of
the body (i.e. heart, lungs, liver etc) where the
seat of emotion resides. Modern English
description is “Jesus’s heart was stirred.” It is to
have a strong feeling for the suffering leper
AND the strong desire to relieve or resolve the
leper’s suffering.
Father Damien
aka Martyr of Charity
(1840-1889)
“… that they (the lepers on
Molokai island) may know
that God has not forsaken
them.”
God’s love and compassion reached its climax
at the Cross…
“For God so loved the world that he sent
his one and only Son, that whoever
believes in him will not perish but have
eternal life.”
John 3:16
Jesus is willing. What about you?
The WAY of Jesus is marked by
Compassion (1:41)
Principle# 1
Godly compassion not only convicts,
it compels us to act.
Jesus is willing. What about you?
The WORKS of Jesus is
Certain (1:42)
Jesus will get it done!
Jesus is willing. What about you?
The WORKS of Jesus is
Certain (1:42)
Principle# 2
Jesus Can!
Jesus is willing. What about you?
The WORDS of Jesus is to be
Complied with (1:43)
We are to obey it.
6 Types of Disobedience
OD Outright Disobedience
(Exodus 7:13, 22; 8:15, 19, 32; 9:12, 35; 10:20,
10:27; 11:9a)
PO Partial Obedience
(Exodus 9:27-28)
CO Complaining, not obeying
(Numbers 14:1-4, 36-38)
6 Types of Disobedience
DO Delayed Obedience
(Numbers 14:39-45)
AO Angry Obedience
(Numbers 20:6-12)
QC Questioning Commands
(Numbers 22:12-33)
Disobedience
Disobedience is a CHOICE.
Disobedience comes with CONSEQUENCES.
Disobedience comes with a COST.
The cost of obedience is nothing compared with the cost of
disobedience
Disobedience
Disobedience is an ATTITUDE.
Disobedience = Pride = Rebellion
Obedience = Humility = Righteousness
Disobedience/Defiance shows a lack of
faith in GOD… and man
Delayed Obedience is the
Brother of Disobedience.
“I know that you can do all things,
no plans of yours can be thwarted.”
Job 42:2 (NIV)
Jesus is willing. What about you?
The WORDS of Jesus is to be
Complied with (1:43)
Principle# 3
Godly intentions, not good intentions,
count!
Jesus is willing. What about you?
One other thing… Mark 1:23-26… Even the demon
obeyed Jesus’ order to be quiet and to come out of
the man…
But in Mark 1:40-45, the leper did not obey Jesus’
warning…
Can man be worse than demons in this regard?
Can we (believers) be worse than demons?
38 “I am convinced that neither death nor life,
neither angels nor demons, neither the present
nor the future, not any powers, 39 neither
height nor depth, nor anything else in all
creation, will be able to separate us from the
love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
Reflection
That God loves us there is no doubt. How much
do we love Him?
What is Jesus saying to you this morning?
Jesus is willing. What about you?
