Week 26B Word of the Week Abhorrence – (noun) General 1. A feeling of extreme loathing or aversion e.g., Dr Jekyll describes his abhorrence of himself as Mr Hyde, ‘When I came to myself at Lanyon's, the horror of my old friend perhaps affected me somewhat: I do not know; it was at least but a drop in the sea to the abhorrence with which I looked back upon these hours. A change had come over me. It was no longer the fear of the gallows, it was the horror of being Hyde that racked me. 2. A person or a thing that is loathsome. Synonyms (same as): abomination, disgust, distaste, hate, horror, repugnant, revulsion Antonyms (opposite): admire, adore, cherish, like, love, relish Task: 1. 2. Make a list of things that are abhorrent to you, remember it’s extreme hatred or disgust not just a dislike of something. Discuss with people on your table to see if they agree with you.
