Global Golf Recruitment
How CMM manages your requirements
Colt Mackenzie McNair’s objective is to always
identify executives who are equipped to deal with
the growing challenges of increased competition,
in both maturing and new markets, pricing pressures
and refined consumer expectations.
This will frame the recommended profile of preferred
candidates and will guarantee CMM selects quality
business professionals that will deliver measurable
results and, critically, have the preferred attitudes and
characteristics to thrive as part of your team.
However, before any search and selection process
begins, CMM must fully understand your business and
brand. In an initial consultation it’s will work with you to
establish the requirements of the role, and then create
the role specification.
Its process is completely transparent. Clients are
kept up-to-date and informed of progress as and
when it happens. Using the CMM network, trade
partner networks, its research team’s expertise, CMM’s
knowledgebase and all social media channels, CMM
undertakes exhaustive research on behalf of its clients.
CMM always evaluates every candidate it engages
with on behalf of a client and measures their ability
to perform in a role and their appetite to adapt and
thrive in a new culture. CMM also validates historical
experience of any candidate and will seek useful and
accurate references on behalf of the client.
In a rapidly changing and evolving golf industry, CMM
offers its clients two very different search services to
cater for its needs. Dependent on the requirements of
an organisation, and the type of role it is recruiting for,
Colt Mackenzie McNair has created two, well-defined
products, CMM Search and CMM Express.
Global Golf Recruitment
CMM Search is a trusted global recruitment service
used by over 90 golf businesses and brands to
identify and attract exceptional talent to their
organisations.
other industries that can add significant value to a
golf business. In fact, 77% of candidates sourced for
golf industry roles via CMM Search were not on the
company’s database.
CMM Search locates appropriate candidates for
senior roles, engages with them, and subsequently
benchmarks and evaluates their skills, ensuring the very
best person is always employed, not just someone who
is available and competent.
During a typical six to eight-week search process,
CMM’s research specialists engage with potential
candidates around the world, creating a systematic
candidate evaluation matrix, which benchmarks a
shortlist against the hiring criteria and job description.
The CMM Search process has become the trusted
method of executive recruitment across a variety of
golf industry sectors including proprietary and private
members’ clubs, resorts, hotel groups and travel. This blue
chip service is also used by trade associations, governing
bodies, equipment manufacturers, apparel companies,
multi-site operators, turfcare and irrigation companies.
Throughout the search and selection process CMM is in
constant contact with both the shortlisted candidates
and the client and will also, on request, play a part of
the final interview process.
CMM Search prides itself on going beyond golf and
identifying candidates with transferable skills from
CMM will also retain a regular dialogue with a
successful candidate during the initial stages of their
new role, ensuring the transition is seamless and
both parties enjoy a strong and profitable working
relationship.
“We used CMM Search to recruit a new General Manager for one of the leading

to identify a shortlist of exceptional candidates. CMM’s expertise and global search

Key Attributes of CMM’s Work
Research
Discretion
CMM research is a process
without compromise. It is a time
honoured and proven fact that
accurate research enables
a firm to differentiate itself.
CMM is no exception and this
enables it to understand the
dynamics of the industry and all
key areas of the evolving world
of golf. This aspect of its work is
fundamental to the success of
each assignment.
CMM understands there can
be sensitivities attached to
any job search and will always
work with the upmost discretion
and professionalism. Very often
potential candidates are not
the people actively searching
for work – CMM invariably
finds the best performing staff
are already doing a good
job for someone else – so its
communications with the client
and potential candidates are
tailored to be sympathetic,
timely, informative and
trustworthy.
Benchmarking
CMM can identify and
accentuate candidates’
strengths, as well as assess their
weaknesses to establish whether
they can
be overcome. Each
candidate
is therefore matched
against the defined job
description and criteria set by its
clients and only presented when
CMM is entirely satisfied there is
an appropriate match.
Communication
Every recruitment process
is different but one aspect
always remains constant…
the need to communicate
in a clear and timely fashion
with both employer and
candidates. CMM prides
itself on always keeping both
parties fully informed on the
progress of an assignment and
understands the need for clarity,
professionalism and honesty
and all times.
Integrity
CMM recognises that with any
mandate it is also representing
the client’s brand, beliefs and
values and will always work as
an ‘extension’ of the business it
is recruiting for. Although CMM
is a truly global business, it has
not lost sight of the fact that
personal service is key to its
ongoing value to clients. CMM
understands the power of a
long-term business partnership
and will always adapt its
approach to the needs of the
client.
Questions you will undoubtedly ask...
What will it cost my
business to find the
best talent?
To answer that question with
another, what will it cost your
business in the long term if you
don’t find the best talent? Every
recruitment business charges
differently, but as a simple,
transparent structure CMM
bases its fees on a percentage
of first- year basic salary,
excluding any performancerelated bonuses
or benefits.
Why can’t you do it
yourself?
Of course, there may be a
temptation to use your own
network of influence to highlight
the right professionals to join
your team. But approaches
like this consistently provoke
problems. They often result in a
fundamental lack of objectivity
in identifying
a cohesive and
high-performing team, and
instead produce a lackluster
amalgam of inappropriate
skill-sets that fail
to deliver the
highest possible standards and
values for your development.
Do not be tempted to treat
recruitment as an activity
that can be done without
professional guidance. Your
people remain the most
valuable commodity in your
entire project and will shape its
success – or failure.
Global Golf Recruitment
CMM: Shaping golf’s
global community
In addition to its proprietary database, CMM utilises the latest social
media networks, advertising opportunities, and networks beyond the
golf industry, to pinpoint candidates that will make a measurable
difference to your business.
Its Linked In group, ‘Colt Mackenzie McNair – Global Golf Recruitment’
has nearly 4,000 members and these golf industry professionals are
always first to hear about new roles within the global golf industry.
Members of this group also take the opportunity to share best practice
and value the chance to discuss business with like-minded peers who
are often working in different regions of the world.
Colt Mackenzie McNair’s Facebook page is also regularly updated with
golf industry news and opportunities. CMM’s page plays a vital role in
aggregating the top golf business news of the day and acts as a very
informative, highly interactive information tool.
Candidates and clients can also access up-to-date industry news
by logging onto Colt Mackenzie McNair’s Golf Industry News digital
newspaper, which gives readers the opportunity to comment on the

Client Testimonials
“We have been highly satisfied with CMM’s
executive search. They have a very diverse
and international database of possible
candidates, for both operational and
senior positions in the golf (and wider hospitality and sport)
industries. Above all, the personal attention they give
clients sets them apart from other HR solution providers. We
would certainly recommend their services.”
“The approach CMM took to present
us
with a shortlist of candidates
was
very refreshing. We have used
other
executive search companies in
the
past, across different facets of the business, but often
they have disrespected the brief we have given them.
CMM listened to what we required, and then subsequently
pre-selected candidates who all delivered against the
search criteria in the brief.
“CMM sits at the heart of the global
golf
business and understand not only
how the
industry works, but have an
encyclopedic
network of contacts that
are invaluable to
businesses seeking the highest level of
employees. Not only do they always deliver, they go about
their work in an efficient, discreet and highly professional
manner, giving you direct, honest feedback from start to
finish.”

“CMM provided us with a very thorough and
professional service in recruiting the right
candidate for the position of General Manager at
Almouj Golf in Oman. I was very impressed with
the detailed information provided on all candidates and
the time spent with me as the client. The details proved very
useful during the interview process and ultimately resulted in
us selecting the best suited candidate for the role.”

General Manager, Almouj Golf, Oman
General Manager, London Golf Club
“CMM’s in-depth knowledge of the golf industry
really does put them head and shoulders above the
competition. They are experts in directing both candidate
and employer during a recruitment process. As a
candidate, I valued their direct feedback to me – they
were always honest and stated if a position did not suit
my ambitions. CMM’s communication through my own
recruitment process was second to none.
“I genuinely value the vast global network it has
developed over the years and the result, quite simply, is
that CMM always has its finger on the golf industry’s pulse.”
David Marsh
Golf Director & PGA Professional,
Fenti Golf Club, Sudan
“The team at Colt Mackenzie McNair brings with it a
wealth of experience, professionalism and attention
to detail that is second to none. I have no hesitation
in highly recommending them to any candidate or
company. They have excellent communication skills and
I’ve seen it from both sides of the fence – candidate
and client – and it is clear the company and its team of
consultants and researchers know golf, understand it and
have the best interests of any candidate at the centre of
everything it does.”
“One extremely impressive quality that sets CMM
apart from all other recruitment companies is their
understanding of what a candidate requires and expects
from an employer. Some recruiters just try and find
someone to ‘fit the bill’, but CMM understands that any
appointment has to work for the candidate as well as
the employer. This approach gives me huge confidence
in CMM and it is a company I know I can trust with my
career aspirations.”
Jim Croxton
“From a candidate’s perspective it is important to
highlight that CMM understood what I was looking for
in my career. They took time to research my personal
aims and ambitions and this led me to my current role at
London Golf Club.
“You demand a lot of trust and discretion from a business
that is effectively helping you manage your career path
and CMM have delivered on both counts. It was clear
to me very early on in our working relationship that they
understand golf and recruitment and I was surprised at
the level of communication, re-assurance and feedback
I received when I was a candidate for my current role.”
Chief Executive of the British and International
Golf Greenkeepers Association
“As a candidate for a senior management job, they
expertly guided me through the process, understanding
my needs and requirements, whilst at the same time
clearly demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of the job
role and quickly answering any questions I had.
It is important to state that CMM strike a perfect balance
between managing the needs and requirements of the
candidate with the expectations of the client. From a
candidate’s perspective they understand that career
decisions are not just about the role, they can affect
your family and the way you live your life. They also do
what they promise, and are trustworthy and honest, all
important attributes from the eyes of a client.”
Wayne Sheffield
Chief Executive, The Wisley
“CMM works with some of the biggest brands in the
game. This positioning is hugely attractive for candidates
as it becomes quite clear that CMM is often at the heart
of many key golf industry appointments across the EMEA
region.
“Even though CMM operates a global business, it has
not lost sight of the need for a very personal and friendly
service and this is undoubtedly what sets it apart from its
competitors.”
