A Week in the Life at Riverdale Video

Masabo
It is our great pleasure to welcome Masabo and Fana Soro ensemble. Fana is a hereditary master
of the balafon, West Africa’s big wooden xylophone. His group, Masabo, specializes in
traditional West African music, dance and story-telling. The group will be performing at our
school on Thursday. On behalf of our school community, I thank the PAC for defraying the cost
of the performance.
“Free the Children” Leadership Group
Last Friday’s movie afternoon was a resounding success. As many as 250 students and parents
responded to the Free the Children’s invitation to watch “Despicable Me 2“. Children sat down
on mats –except for the Grade 6 and 7 students who had the privilege of sitting on the benchesand enjoyed popcorn while watching the movie. The event raised $500! The money will go
towards building a school in Kenya. Excellent initiative Free the Children! We are proud of you!

What is PALS?
PALS is a program for parents and
their preschool aged children. It is
designed to improve the children’s
performance in reading and
writing at school and to build the
connection between home and
school. At Riverdale it will begin
in January and sessions will run
approximately once a month until
June.
