SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY
The Michigan State Fair has been revived in Novi at the Suburban Collection Showplace in the form of The Fifth Third Bank Michigan
State Fair. The event has evolved and grown dramatically over the last two years and while the event had the very professional steady
hand of a third party event management group for the 2013 effort, the response to the event and the growth is such that having a full
time committed professional event manager will be necessary to take it to its next logical level.
The Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair Executive Director is responsible for directing the State Fair and is responsible for all
operational activities leading up to the event, implementation of the event and post-event activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages and executes the Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair

Develops event budget and all applicable sponsor, vendor and media goals

Effectively markets Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair statewide to generate new participation and community involvement

Provides progress reports to Executive Committee

Strong understanding of Budgeting and Forecasting

Manages vendor and sponsor efforts

Leads project team

Coordinates efforts and is primarily responsible for the following areas:
o Sponsors – Development, Sales and Relations
o Media – Coordinating buys and maximization of pre-promotion and PR efforts on the part of our media partners
o Vendors – Development of functional floor plan, sales and marketing to all commercial and food vendors

Facilitates regular meetings: internal staff and Steering Committee

Proposes new ideas to improve event planning and implementation process

Works as a member of the development team to develop relationships with sponsors, volunteers and event participants

Supports other members of the development team

Has the ability to produce press releases
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
 Bachelor’s Degree preferred
 Five years of experience in event management
 Strategic project planning and decision making skills
 Commitment and willingness to work evenings and weekends, particularly during the time leading up to and throughout the
duration of the State Fair

 Detail-oriented and well organized

Highly professional demeanor, able to work successfully with a wide variety of constituents including Steering Committee
members, vendors, volunteers, and professional consultants
Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interface with Executive Committee, media,

management, staff, sponsors and volunteers

Ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to manage multiple priorities, and work in a deadline driven environment
Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive


Confidentiality and personal integrity are essential

The ideal candidate will possess strong skills and an understanding of Website Development, use of such programs as
Dreamweaver, Photoshop and the like

Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office

Experience with HTML coding a plus, but not a must

Strong experience with Social Media and Marketing
