BIOGRAPHIES – 2009 ADMITTEES
Hanaa Al Sharief is the daughter of Ahmed and Fatmah Al Sharief of Palestine.
Hanaa received her Bachelor of Science with a joint Degree in Computer Science
and Spanish from Dalhousie University in 2004 and her Law Degree from Dalhousie
University in 2008. She articled with Daniel Campbell QC of Cox & Palmer in Halifax.
Kiersten Noelle Amos is the daughter of Kathleen and Robert Amos of
Melvern Square, Nova Scotia, and shares her life with Jason Woodworth. Kiersten
received her Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science in Applied Nutrition Degrees
from Acadia University, and her Law Degree from the University of New Brunswick in
2008. She articled with McInnes Cooper in Halifax and will be associated with that
firm in the practice of law.
Amy Paige Anderson is the daughter of David and Sheila Anderson of Frontier,
Saskatchewan. Amy studied at Augustine College in Ottawa and at the University of
Saskatchewan in Saskatoon and received her Law Degree from Dalhousie University
in 2008. She articled with Stewart McKelvey in Halifax and intends to return to
Saskatchewan to practice law.
Roula Athanasiou is the daughter of George and Litsa Athanasiou of Halifax,
Nova Scotia. Roula attended Saint Mary’s University where she received a Bachelor
of Commerce (double major in Marketing, and Human Resource Management and
Industrial Relations) and a Certificate in Human Resource Management in 2003. She
graduated from Dalhousie University with a combined Bachelor of Laws and Master
of Public Administration in 2008. She articled with the law firm of Burchell Hayman
Parish and will be associated with that firm in the practice of law. Roula would like to
thank her family for their support and guidance throughout the years.
Carolyn Dawn Baglole is the daughter of Jessie Smith and the late Silby
Reginald Smith of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, and is married to Matthew Baglole. Dawn
received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Cape Breton University and her Law Degree
from the University of New Brunswick in 2008. She articled with Robert Sampson QC
of Sampson McDougall, Barristers and Solicitors in Sydney, Nova Scotia and will be
associated with that firm in the practice of law.

Angèle Bilodeau is the daughter of Elise Gaudet and the late Donald LeBlanc
of Bouctouche, New Brunswick. She is married to Myles Bilodeau of New Glasgow.
Angèle received her Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from St. Francis Xavier
University in 2005 and her L.L.B. from Dalhousie University in 2008. She articled
with Patterson Law of Halifax under the supervision of Kate D. Harris. Angèle will
become an associate with Patterson Law and will focus primarily in Estate Planning
and Taxation.
Myles Bilodeau is the son of Leo and Carron Bilodeau of New Glasgow, Nova
Scotia. He is married to Angele Bilodeau of Bouctouche, New Brunswick. Myles
received his Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Computer Science from St. Francis Xavier
University in 2005 and his L.L.B. from Dalhousie University in 2008. He articled with
Patterson Law of Halifax under the supervision of Kate D. Harris. Myles will become an
associate with Patterson Law and will focus on Tax Planning for the Owner Manager.
Megan Marie Blaikie is the daughter of Gordon and Dorothy Blaikie of Truro,
Nova Scotia and the spouse of Leonard Roberts. Megan received her Bachelor of Arts
(Honors) degree from Saint Mary’s University and her Law Degree from Dalhousie
University in 2008. She articled with Burchell MacDougall in Truro and will be
associated with the firm in the practice of law.
Alison Jane Buchanan is the daughter of Alan and Debbie Buchanan of
Belfast, Prince Edward Island. Alison’s partner, Matthew Newell, is also being admitted
to the Nova Scotia bar today. Alison received an honours degree in political science
(international relations) from the University of New Brunswick. She received her law
degree from the University of Ottawa in the English common law program. Alison
completed her articles with McInnes Cooper in Halifax. Commencing in July 2009
Alison will be associated with the firm Bailey & Associates in the practice of law and
will be practicing in the areas of criminal and family law.
Sarah Marion Burton is the daughter of Judy Burton of New Glasgow,
Nova Scotia. She will be married to Sean Fraser on September 19th of this year. Sarah
attended Dalhousie University for her undergraduate studies and pursued a Bachelor
of Commerce degree before receiving her Law Degree from Dalhousie Law School in
2008. She articled with Wickwire Holm of Halifax and will be pursuing a legal career
in the area of civil litigation.

Tanya Butler, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, is the daughter of David Butler and Adele
Sutherland and is married to Paul Pick. Tanya received a Bachelor of Arts degree from
Acadia University and a Ph.D. from Queen’s University, before taking her law degree
from the University of New Brunswick in 2008. She articled with Stewart McKelvey and
will be continuing as a litigation associate at that firm.
Jessica Gin-Jade Chan is the daughter of Tan Koon Eng. She was born in Ottawa
and bred in Singapore, eventually returning to Canada to further her education. Jessica
received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Victoria, and her Master
of Publishing degree from Simon Fraser University. She graduated with a Law degree
from Dalhousie University in 2008, and articled with the firm of McInnes Cooper in
Halifax. Jessica will be pursuing a legal career in the city of Toronto, Ontario.
Mark James Charles is the son of James Howard Charles and Barbara Frances
Charles of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Mark received his Bachelor of Arts (Honours)
Degree from Dalhousie University and his Law Degree from Dalhousie University in
2008. He articled with Ken A. MacLean of Boyne Clarke in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
and will be associated with that firm in the practice of law.
Sheldon Anthony Choo is the son of Michael Anthony Choo and Sandra Ann
Choo of Cole Harbour, and is married to Juliette Jeanne Choo. Sheldon received his Masters of Health Service Administration from Dalhousie University and his Law Degree
from Dalhousie University in 2008. He articled with Sara Gorelick of the Nova Scotia
Department of Justice in Halifax and intends to continue practicing in Nova Scotia.
J. Gregory Clooney is the son of Martin and Maureen Clooney of St. John’s,
Newfoundland, and is married to Patricia Anne Clooney. He received his LL.B. from
Dalhousie University in 2008. Greg articled with Stewart McKelvey and will be joining
the firm as a litigation associate.
Marc P. Comeau is the son of Philippe A. Comeau and Margaret R. Comeau
of Lake Echo, Nova Scotia, Husband of Melissa S. Comeau, and father of Isabelle
M. Comeau. Marc received his Commerce degree from Dalhousie University in 2002
and his Law Degree from The University of New Brunswick in 2008. He articled with
Stewart McKelvey and intends to pursue the practice of law here in Nova Scotia.

MICHAEL CHRISTOPHER DEROSENROLL is the nephew of Diane Thompson of
Elmsdale and is the spouse of Melinda Norris. Michael received his Law Degree from
the University of Ottawa. He practiced with the Canadian Cancer Society in Ottawa
and intends to practice with the Canadian Cancer Society in Halifax.
Amanda Dillman is the daughter of Ross and Sandra Dillman of Lantz, Nova
Scotia. Amanda received her Arts Degree from Saint Mary’s University in 2005 and
her Law Degree from Dalhousie University in 2008. She articled with G. Douglas Sealy
QC, of Sealy Cornish in Dartmouth and will be associated with that firm in the practice
of law.
Matthew James Sinclair Dorreen is the son of Mark and Barbara Dorreen
of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Matthew received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from McGill
University in 2005 and his Law Degree from Dalhousie University in 2008. He articled
with Patrick Fitzgerald of Cox & Palmer in Halifax.
David Stewart Pierre Dow of Church Point, Nova Scotia is the son of Jean
and Rankine Dow of Berwick, Nova Scotia, and is married to Dr. Michelle Marie Dow.
David received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Acadia University,
his Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Moncton and
his Law Degree from Dalhousie University in 2008. He articled with Martin J. Pink QC
of Pink Star Murphy Barro in Yarmouth and will be associated with that firm in the
practice of law.
Sarah Elizabeth Drodge is the daughter of Glenn and Janice Drodge and
will become the wife of Darrell Kyte in July. Sarah was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland
and was raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia. She received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours)
degree from Cape Breton University in 2005 and her law degree from the University of
New Brunswick in 2008. Sarah articled with Anthony Chapman QC of Cox & Palmer in
Halifax and will be associated with that firm in the practice of law.
Ashley Patrice Dunn is the daughter of Patrick and Patricia Dunn of New
Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Ashley received her Bachelor of Commerce Degree from
Queen’s University and her Law Degree from the University of New Brunswick in
2008. She articled with Michael Dunphy QC of Cox & Palmer in Halifax and will be
associated with that firm in the practice of law.

George Eleftheriou, originally from Saint John, New Brunswick, is the son
of Nick Eleftheriou and Tasia Eleftheriou. George received his Bachelor of Business
Administration from the University of New Brunswick in 2003 and his Joint Bachelor
of Laws and Master of Public Administration from Dalhousie University in 2008. He
articled with Bailey and Associates in Dartmouth and will be associated with that firm
in the practice of law.
Jeffrey Peter Flinn is the son of Ken and Gail Flinn of Halifax. Jeff received his
Bachelor of Arts Degree from Saint Mary’s University and his LL.B from the University
of New Brunswick in 2008. Jeff articled with Paul Radford QC of Coady Filliter in Halifax.
Jeff will join Coady Filliter as an Associate with a practice in Corporate/Commercial law
and Litigation.
Margo Christine Fulmer is the daughter of Terry Fulmer and Margaret Grant
of Halifax. Margo received her Undergraduate Degree at the University of Ottawa and
her Law Degree from Dalhousie University in 2007. She articled with Bob Chipman
of Nova Scotia Legal Aid and intends to pursue a career in the area of public interest
and social justice.
James Michael Curtis Giacomantonio is the son of Michael and Joyce
Giacomantonio of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and is engaged to be married to Kathryn
Wilson. James received his Bachelor of Science from Acadia University and his Law
Degree from Dalhousie University in 2008. He articled with McInnes Cooper of Halifax,
Nova Scotia and intends to practice criminal law following his call to the bar.
Jarvis Patrick Googoo is from the Mi’kmaw community of We’koqma’q,
Unama’ki. Jarvis received his undergraduate degree with distinction in sociology and
criminology from Saint Mary’s University in 2005. He earned his law degree from Dalhousie Law School in 2008, where he was the recipient of the David M. Jones Memorial
Award. He articled with Nova Scotia Legal Aid in Halifax. Jarvis plans to be involved in
many endeavours in the future, including entertainment, government, and politics.

Bryen Elizabeth Hebert is the daughter of Brian and Cindy Hebert of Plaster
Rock, New Brunswick (and is the partner of Geoff Adams). Bryen received her Bachelor
of Science in Psychology in 2003 and Masters of Arts in Experimental Psychology
in 2006 from University of New Brunswick and her Law Degree from Dalhousie
University in 2008. She articled with Boyne Clarke in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and will
be associated with Boyne Clarke in the practice of law.
Joseph Myer Herschorn, of Halifax, is the son of Martin E. Herschorn QC,
of Halifax, and Marie Flood, of St. John’s, Newfoundland. Joseph received his Bachelor
of Arts degree from the University of King’s College in 2005 and his Law Degree from
Dalhousie Law School in 2008. He articled with Brian Downie QC of Cox & Palmer in
Halifax and will be associated with that firm in the practice of law.
Sharmi Jaggi, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, is married to Dr. Rick Jaggi. Sharmi
received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Mary’s University, her Masters of
Public Administration from Dalhousie University and her Law Degree from Dalhousie
University in 2007. She articled with W. Dale Dunlop of Walker, Dunlop of Halifax and
intends to pursue a career in public interest law.
Jan Lars Jensen is the son of Knud and Birgit Jensen (deceased), and he was born
and raised in Yarrow, British Columbia. He is the husband of Michelle Jensen and they
now live in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Jan received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Creative
Writing from the University of Victoria in 1993 and his Law Degree from Dalhousie
University in 2008. He articled with the Atlantic Regional Office of the Federal Department of Justice in 2008 and 2009, where his supervising lawyer was Elaine Wright. His
articling year included a secondment to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada and a
rotation with Veterans Affairs Canada. He will be associated with the Atlantic Regional
Office of the Department of Justice, Tax Law Services, in the practice of law.
Robert James Thomas Kennedy is the son of Jim and Fahda Kennedy, and
is engaged to marry Marlo Longobardi in August. Robert received his Bachelor of Arts
in Criminology from Saint Mary’s University in 2005, and his Bachelor of Laws from
Dalhousie Law School in 2008. He articled with Blois, Nickerson & Bryson, and will
be pursuing a litigation practice with Bedford Law. Robert would like to acknowledge
the love and support of his parents, Jim and Fahda, his brother Jimmy, and his fiancée
Marlo, who have been a constant source of strength and encouragement.

Andrew Kirk is the son of Jane Secord and the late Irving Carlton Kirk. He is
married to Angela Murray and has two daughters, Sophie and Lilly. Andrew was born
in Buffalo, New York and is a member of The Six Nations of the Grand River in Ontario.
Andrew received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dalhousie University in 1985, and
his Law Degree from Dalhousie Law School in 2008. He articled with Kevin Burke QC
of Cox & Palmer in Halifax.
Neil James Kuranyi is the son of Sharon Kuranyi and the late James Kuranyi
of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Neil received his Undergraduate Degree from Saint Mary’s
University and his Law Degree from Dalhousie University in 2008. He articled with
Guy LaFosse QC of LaFosse MacLoed in Sydney, Nova Scotia and intends to return to
Halifax, Nova Scotia to pursue his legal career.
Terrance Marc LeClair is the son of Margaret and Terrance LeClair of
Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and will be married to Laura Wojcik on June 20th of this year.
Marc received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary’s University and his Law
Degree from Dalhousie University in 2008. He articled with Wickwire Holm of Halifax
and will be associated with that firm in the practice of law.
Helen Melissa Pattillo MacAdam is the daughter of the Honourable
Justice A. David MacAdam and Mrs. Ann MacAdam of Halifax, and is married to Jason
Lawrence. Melissa received her Honours in Criminology from the University of Ottawa
and her law degree from Dalhousie Law School in 2008. She articled with Patterson
Law in Halifax, and will be joining them as an associate in litigation.
Trevor James MacDonald is the son of Everett and Shirley MacDonald of
Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Trevor received his Bachelor of Business Administration
degree from Saint Francis Xavier University and his LL.B. from The University of New
Brunswick in 2008. He articled with Stewart McKelvey and will be pursuing the practice
of law as a corporate associate at Stewart McKelvey.
Steven McCardy is the son of Mary-Rose McCardy. Steven received his Bachelor
of Arts (Honours) from Carleton University in 2004, and his Law Degree from
Dalhousie University in 2008. Following his completion of articles with Boyne Clarke,
he will pursue opportunities in sports and labour law.

Trevor Kevin Flanigan McGuigan is the son of Kevin and Coleen
McGuigan of Lower Sackville, and is engaged to be married to Annie Quinlivan-Hall.
Trevor received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Dalhousie University in 2005 and
his Law Degree from Dalhousie University in 2008. He articled with Garson MacDonald
in Halifax and will be associated in the practice of law with Serbu Lumsden.
Andy Melvin is the son of Katherine Melvin and the late Michael Melvin of St.
John’s, Newfoundland. Andy received his Philosophy degree from Dalhousie University,
his Religious Studies degree from Memorial University, his Education degree from
Memorial University and his LL.B. from l’Université de Moncton in 2008. He articled
with Stewart McKelvey and will be pursuing the practice of law as a criminal defence
lawyer at the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission.
Misty Rose Morrison is the daughter of Margo and Andy of Danvers, Nova
Scotia. Misty received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Dalhousie University
and Law Degree from Dalhousie Law School in 2008. She articled with Megan Farquhar
of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice in Halifax.
Scott Morrison is the son of Cameron and Lyn Morrison of Halifax, Nova
Scotia. He received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of King’s College, a Bachelor
of Public Relations from Mount Saint Vincent University and his LL.B. from Dalhousie
University in 2008. Scott articled with Stewart McKelvey.
Christine Elizabeth Nault is the daughter of Richard and Elaine Robinson
of Calgary, Alberta, and is married to Lieutenant (Navy) Philippe Nault of Laval,
Quebec. Christine received her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the
Royal Military College of Canada in 2003 and her Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie
University in 2008. She articled with McInnes Cooper in Halifax and will go on to
serve as law clerk to the Honourable Justice Thomas Cromwell of the Supreme Court
of Canada commencing in September 2010.
Matthew Newell is the son of Leigh and Esther Newell. Matthew received
his Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree from Dalhousie University and his LL.B.
from The University of Ottawa in 2008. He articled with Stewart McKelvey and will be
pursuing the practice of law as a corporate associate at Stewart McKelvey.

Lauren Margaret Randall is the daughter of Cyril Randall and Louise
Randall of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. Lauren received her Commerce degree from
Mount Allison University and her Law Degree from the University of New Brunswick
in 2008. She articled with Boyne Clarke in Dartmouth and will be associated with that
firm in the practice of law.
Dianna Maureen Rievaj (pronounced Rev-eye) is the daughter of Duncan and
Anne MacDonald of Antigonish, and is married to Stephen Rievaj. Dianna received
her Honours Bachelors of Business degree from Bishop’s University and her Masters
of Business and Law degrees from Dalhousie University in 2008. She articled with
McInnes Cooper in Halifax and intends to practice civil litigation in Halifax.
Erin Eileen Riley is the daughter of Patrick James Riley and Karen Dorothy Riley
of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. Erin received her Combined Honours in Political Science
and International Development Studies from Dalhousie University in 2004 and her Law
Degree from the University of New Brunswick in 2008. She articled with David Bartol
of the Department of Justice for the Province of Nova Scotia in Halifax and will be
attending the University of Toronto in the fall to begin her Masters in Public Policy.
Daniel Connor Robinson is the son of David and Arlene Robinson of
Halifax. Connor received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dalhousie University and
his Law Degree from Dalhousie University in 2008. He articled with Craig Clarke of
MacIsaac & Clarke in Stellarton and has accepted a position as a Legislative Assistant
to the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans.
Ellen Ruth Sampson is the daughter of Mrs. Ruth Frost-Cameron of Braintree,
Massachusetts and Mr. Gerald Sampson of St. Peter’s, Nova Scotia. Ellen received
her law degree from Dalhousie Law School in 2008. She articled with Patterson Law in
Truro, and will be joining them as an associate in litigation.
Alfred A. Seaman is the son of W. Andrew T. Seaman and E. Jane Archibald of
Halifax, Nova Scotia. Alfred received his Bachelor of Arts and Certificate in Human
Resource Management from Saint Mary’s University in 2003 and his Law Degree from
Dalhousie University in 2008. He articled with Bailey and Associates in Dartmouth,
Nova Scotia and will be an Associate with that firm in the practice of law.

CRISTOPHER SCOTT SHIRRITT is the son of Mona Wallace of Berwick, Nova
Scotia, is married to Dr. Stephanie Hayne and is the proud father of Andrew and

University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He articled and practiced
law with MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman LLP in Saskatoon and will be associated with
Muttart Tufts Dewolfe & Coyle in Kentville, Nova Scotia.
Andrew James Sowerby is the son of Larry and Holly Sowerby of Dartmouth,
Nova Scotia and is married to Kate Sinclair-Sowerby. Andrew received his Bachelors
Degree from the University of King’s College and his Law Degree from Dalhousie
University in 2008. He articled with Dan Ingersoll of Cox & Palmer in Halifax and will
be associated with that firm in the practice of law.
Karen Dawn Stilwell is the daughter of Brian and Cheryl Stilwell of Truro,
Nova Scotia. Karen received her Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University
of Toronto in 2002, a Master of Arts Degree from Carleton University in 2005, and her
Law Degree from the University of New Brunswick in 2008. She articled with McInnes

Colin Taylor is the son of Glenn and Peggy Taylor of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Colin

University in 2006. Christa articled with the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Youth and Duty

Glenda Thompson is the daughter of Mary and Lloyd Thompson of Toronto,
Ontario. She is the partner of Shawn and mother of two sons, Logan and Lachlan.
Glenda received her Dental Hygiene Degree from Dalhousie University and her Law
Degree from Dalhousie University in 2008. She articled with Lola Gilmer of Nova
Scotia Legal Aid in Dartmouth. She would like to thank her family and friends for their
support in helping her achieve her goal of becoming a lawyer.
Paul Thorne is the son of Brian and Glenda Thorne of Hampton, New Brunswick
and is married to his partner, Alain Richard. Paul attended Saint Mary’s University
where he received a Bachelor of Commerce (major in Finance) in 2003. He graduated
from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Laws and Certificate in Business Law in
2008. He articled with the law firm of Burchell Hayman Parish and will be associated
with that firm in the practice of law. Paul would like to thank his partner, Al, for all the
years of support.
Jacqueline Marie Twohig is the daughter of Susan Dooley of Halifax, Nova
Scotia. Jacqueline received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Carleton University and
her Law Degree from Dalhousie University in 2008. She articled with Blois Nickerson
and Bryson in 2008/2009 and will be associated with that firm in the practice of law.
Daniel William Watt, of Ottawa, Ontario, is the son of Andrew Watt and
Susan Zettell. Daniel received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with First Class Honours
from Dalhousie University, and received his Law Degree from Dalhousie in 2008.
He articled with the firm of McInnes Cooper in Halifax and will be associated with
that firm in the practice of law. For their ongoing support, Daniel would like to thank
McInnes Cooper, his parents, and Noelle.
Order of Proceedings
1. Justice enters, everyone rises and the Court is formally opened.
2. Presenting Officer introduces and moves for the admission of each individual
candidate.
3. When applicants have been presented, all Oaths administered and all Orders
granted, the Justice will deliver a short address.
4. The Court will be formally closed.
Signing The Roll
Following the ceremony, each candidate for admission to the Barristers’ Society is required
to sign the Roll of Lawyers. Admissions staff will direct you to the appropriate area.
