Austin Children's Academy August Gazette NOVEMBER 2015 Director's Corner Beautiful blue skies and nice crisp air and occasionally rain mean it's Autumn. We had a great month of October. Pumpkin painting was a great activity for ACA children. We want to show huge appreciation to our ACA staff, parents, volunteers and all the local businesses for taking a big part in our Halloween Fall Festival. All proceeds are going to Make-A-Wish Foundation. It was a fun-filled evening for the entire ACA family and community. It's November and it's time for thanking our friends, family and our community. ACA has organized a canned food drive to benefit our local food bank. Please donate any NOT EXPIRED, non-perishable, canned food items & send it in a brown bag with your child's name on it. The classroom that collects the most canned food will earn an ice cream party in December. We had a very successful collection last year and we want to make it even better this year. ACA kids will be learning about Indian culture by celebrating Diwali (Festival of Lights) on Tuesday, November 10th, organized by all our staff starting at 9:30 am. ACA will be hosting a Thanksgiving Potluck Luncheon on Wednesday, November 25th from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. You are all invited to come and enjoy luncheon with your children. You may also bring any kind of signature dish and share with us at this potluck luncheon. The sign-up sheet will be located at the front desk. Look out for invitations the second week of November. Please note November 25th is also an early release day at 12 noon. ACA will be closed Thursday, 26th and Friday, 27th for Thanksgiving holiday. From our family to yours, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of our staff, parents, and friends for all your support throughout the year. Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving Holiday! Mrs. Gupta October has come and gone, but before we start getting ready for Thanksgiving, we must remember how fun it is to finally pull out our sweaters and decorate our pumpkins. We have been talking about fall and recently, we learned about animals with vertebrates. We also talked about mammals and fish. Of all the animals in whole world, mammals are the only ones that drink milk from their mother when they are born. Mammals are the only animals have fur or hair! Mammals are warm blooded, so their body temperatures relatively stay the same. We also talked about how bats are the only flying mammals. Bats are nocturnal which means that during the day bats sleep in cave, barns or under bridges. They rely on a special sense called echolocation to navigate. The children enjoyed learning about fish. Fish are vertebrates which means they have backbones. Fish are cold-blooded. They have special organs in their bodies called gills. A fish takes a gulp of water, closes its mouth and forces the water to the gills. Gills are special organs that capture the oxygen in the water and eject everything else. In science, children also enjoyed solving a skeleton puzzle. We learned that a skeleton is the framework of our body and that it holds you upright and lets you move. Another fun thing we learned about was the brain. It works very hard. It sends messages to all the parts of your body. This soft organ is protected by the skull. In botany, children learned about the pumpkin life cycle, did sequencing cards, cut and paste work, and talked about seeds. In the month of November, we are looking forward to celebrate Diwali and Thanksgiving! We will continue with fall and now focus on the grain food group and the dairy food group. We will talk about owls from the bird group, and continue learning about vertebrates along with amphibians, pilgrims, and Indians. Thanks, Ms. Sri & Ms. Akansha Hello, Parents! We are having a wonderful Fall! K i d s are enjoying the pleasant weather. Our November theme is all a b o u t being thankful. We will focus on Thanksgiving. We will decorate our classroom bulletin boards, windows, doors, etc., according to this theme. Kids will also be busy with artwork related to Thanksgiving. November 2nd marks the beginning of our Annual Canned Food Drive, which lasts until Thanksgiving Day. This food is donated to The Austin Food Bank. On November 20th, please have the students wear their favorite sports team t-shirts to contribute to school spirit. We have a Thanksgiving Potluck Luncheon for all ACA families on Wednesday, November 25th. That is also an early release day - school gets out at noon. October has been a very busy month filled with activities related to Halloween and Fall. Students did a lot of art work like coloring, drawing, decorating, crafts and so on. They decorated their pumpkins beautifully with masks, crowns, googly eyes. Some turned out to be pretty fancy! We had two birthday parties Siddhant's and Vedder's birthdays. All our kiddos had a great time eating pizza and fruits. Our circle times have also been very effective. Kids are learning very fast, not only the older kids, but also the younger ones. We, as teachers, try to give our best and bring out the best in our students. We want to make sure that the classroom environment is both educational and fun, because we know kids learn better when they are enjoying what is being taught. Lastly, we just had our gala Halloween celebration on the 30th. Hope you all had a wonderful time. Thank you, Ms. Mousumi and Ms. Sarita The school days are flying by and the holidays are just around the corner. Last month we enjoyed the Fall Festival and now we are preparing for this month's Family Luncheon. We are also excited to share the things we are thankful for! In preparation for the fall season the class has enjoyed decorating the room with pumpkins and other fall type decor. The children have noticed the cooler weather while outside on the playground. Since the change of weather is officially here please start sending a light jacket / sweater to school with your child everyday. There will be days a jacket is not needed but then in the afternoon we may need it. Please make sure to label anything that is sent to school with your child's name. This ensures that if something becomes misplaced or ends up in another classroom it will be returned to the proper child. We look forward to seeing you later this month at the Family Luncheon! Ms. Ebony / Ms. Lacey / Ms. Brooke The month of October was really fun! We got to teach the kids a lot about Halloween and about Fall with our pumpkin painting and songs. As October comes to an end, we would like to welcome November! Another awesome month for everyone! November has a lot in store for us. We will be helping those in need by bringing in canned food from November 2nd through November 24th. Another great thing to look forward to is Veterans Day! Most importantly, Thanksgiving and our annual Potluck Luncheon on the 25th! We will be talking about Thanksgiving most of the month and making lots of crafts with the babies. The babies have been doing amazing, learning how to walk, eat and even talk! We are so proud of them. They surely are growing up. We welcomed new friends all this month and we are getting more friends in November! We are so excited to give all our love and affection to our incoming and current babies. We hope you all have a great month of November and enjoy your time with your family and safe travels!! Have a great Thanksgiving, Ms. Blanca, Ms. Amber, Ms. Gina, Ms. Alia, Ms. Lisandra Happy Fall!! Don't you just love this season? It offers so much to do and discuss. In the month of October, Iris class had a lot to learn about. From apples to pumpkins to squash, we were studying shapes, sizes, colors and, of course, following the life cycle of both apple and pumpkin. We were counting, cutting and carving, having a blast decorating our pumpkins, performing various fall rug, practical life and writing activities. All that, while watching the seasons change, leaves falling, changing colors. We even tried to identify different kinds of leaves, and we have to say, there are lots of them! There is no October without Halloween! Our classroom was skillfully decorated with all kinds of spooky thanks to Ms.Ali and our children's artwork. We also read different Halloween stories every day. As we move into November, we'll be keeping ourselves busy with harvest and pilgrims, our North America and Native Americans units are on the way, too. And, of course, one of my personal favorite holidays, Thanksgiving! We can't wait to hear what our kiddos are thankful for this year. I know Ms.Ali and I are truly thankful for the opportunity to work with such an amazing group of students and parents and appreciate your help, patience and participation. Thank you for sharing your children with us, Mrs. Julia and Mrs. Ali Spanish Class Welcome Noviembre!! This month during Spanish class we will be reviewing our past material and welcome in new material dealing with things we will experience in the month of November. Since it is the time to give thanks we will be talking about family and things we are thankful for in Spanish, and since its that time of year most of us indulge in the pleasures of Thanksgiving dinners we will be talking about different foods and items we will find and how we say them in Spanish. The children are doing incredibly well in Spanish and it just gives me the greatest comfort to see them light up when I enter the classroom and are eager to learn the new materials I have brought to teach them during Spanish. We will have a blast this month learning about "Nuestra Familia" (Our Family) and "Comida y Verduras" (Food and Vegetables) in Spanish. I wouldn't be surprised if your little ones teach you how to say certain items you'll be eating on Thanksgiving :) Thank You for all you do and I for one am Thankful to have such amazing kids and wonderful parents during this month of November. I would also like to remind you that we will be having an early release on Wednesday at 12:00 and will not be open on the days of Thursday and Friday we hope you and yours have a very Happy Thanksgiving with you and yours thank you for all you do!!
